    Get PDF
The most effective way to protect the environment and prevent pollution is saving non-renewable natural resources. It is possible to reduce both the products and the cost of contamination by recycling. The debris usually ensue from fire and earthquake disasters, wars, renovations and administrative decisions on urban transformation. The war in Syria and terror in Turkey are the major reasons of destruction for the last 5 years. This fieldwork has investigated the scale of destruction as consequence of war and terror after 2011 in Syria and near Turkey, and possible solutions to manage the construction waste

When it is thought that women that indigenize freedom, modernity and naturalness as a lifestyle look for light and unique clothing; it is possible to see the value of the local fabrics. It can easily be said that the Kizilcaboluk cotton made fabrics are free, comfortable and useful for clothing. The clothes designed in the present study were selected to be suitable for the "Nature" theme from the breechcloth made of Kizilcaboluk fabrics. By keeping the size and patterns, looseness, thickness, wrinkling of the cloths in mind, and by foregrounding comfort and aesthetics, designs were done by the students at the Cloth Design class under the title "Nature". Among these, one design from each which is suitable for production was selected. The technical details of the designs were analyzed by the researcher considering the sewing technique and pattern features, trying to make them suitable for boutique production, and to let the least fabric waste. As the target audience, the customers that like to wear expensive and unique clothes were considered. It is believed that if the cloth collection produced is marketed well, Kizilcaboluk fabrics will be known not only in the country but all around the world

    Get PDF
Nowadays the biggest countries that produce raw hides are China, India, Brazil and the USA; and major tanning companies are in Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Italy, South Korea, Mexico, Pakistan, Russia, Spain, Turkey and the USA. The top exporter of raw hides and skins is the USA. During exportation many microbes especially bacteria and archaea can damage the raw hides and skins. In this study, some information is given about some microbiological problems during exportation of raw hides and skins

Comparison of DNA isolation methods from mammalian sperm cells and development of a new protocol

Sperm DNA tightly packed with protamines makes the DNA isolation procedure from sperm cells long and laborious. Cell lysis is also a challenging step because of the disulfide bonds-rich membranes of the sperm cells. In this study we aimed to evaluate potential rapid DNA isolation protocols to isolate DNA from mammalian sperm cells, and develop an easy, rapid, and cost-effective protocol for sperm DNA isolation which can be used in molecular biology and diagnostics. Sperm samples were collected from seven adult rats. Our developed protocol included Proteinase K and small amount of β-mercaptoethanol (βME) for cell lysis. A modified salting-out technique was then employed to collect DNA. Alternative protocols involving InstaGene matrix and cell sonication techniques were also applied to achieve DNA isolation. Concentration of the DNA yield was measured, and the degradation of DNA was checked using agarose gel electrophoresis. The intactness of the DNA yield was assessed and validated using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and capillary gel electrophoresis techniques. The lysis of the cells and high-quality DNA yield have only been achieved using our developed optimized protocol. To confirm the quality of DNA for assays, PCR product was synthesized for rat actin β (RActβ) gene and then analyzed using capillary gel electrophoresis. A strong peak at right m/z value for the amplicon was obtained. We described an improved protocol over the previous methods suggesting the use of combined commercial kits and long incubation times

Clinical diagnosis and complications of paratubal cysts: review of the literature and report of uncommon presentations

    Get PDF
Paraovarian or paratubal cysts (PTCs) constitute about 10 % of adnexial masses. Although they are not uncommon; they rarely cause symptoms and are usually incidentally found. Actual incidence is not known. The symptoms occur when they grow excessively, or in case of hemorrhage, rupture or torsion. Here, literature review reporting the incidence, presentation and complications of PTCs is performed. Uncommon presentations of PTCs in three different cases, a giant PTC, torsion of PTC and borderline paratubal tumor, are also reported and discussed. Ultrasonography, CT or MRI may be performed in preoperative evaluation; but none of these imaging techniques have specific criteria for diagnosis. So, in most cases misdiagnosis as an ovarian mass remains to be a problem. Paratubal cysts can become extremely big before causing symptoms. Torsion is another urgent issue regarding PTCs, necessiating urgent surgery for preservation of the ovary and the tube. Although malignancy is rare, borderline paratubal tumors have been reported in the literature

The levels of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin in different stages of endometriosis

    Get PDF
This study was designed to explore matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) levels and MMP-9/NGAL ratio in women with and without endometriosis diagnosed surgically and/or histopathologically. The correlation between biomarkers and the severity of the disease is analysed. The revised American Fertility Society classification system was used to determine the severity of endometriosis. Serum MMP-9 and Ca125, urine NGAL levels were measured in all participants. Serum MMP-9 levels were significantly higher in the study group (n¼60) compared to controls (n¼31) (15.0 pg/mL (6.0–143.0) vs. 12.0 (4.0–18.0), respectively; p¼.002). MMP-9 levels were significantly higher in severe endometriosis compared to mild endometriosis subgroups (p<.001). No significant difference was found between NGAL levels in study and control groups (p>.05). The diagnostic value of MMP-9 and NGAL is not superior than CA-125 for endometriosis. Nevertheless, MMP-9 might be a potential predictive marker for advanced stage of the disease

    Get PDF
OBJECTIVE: Differential diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is important among fibrotic interstitial lung diseases (ILD). This study aimed to evaluate the rate of IPF in patients with fibrotic ILD and to determine the clinical-laboratory features of patients with and without IPF that would provide the differential diagnosis of IPF. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included the patients with the usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) pattern or possible UIP pattern on thorax high-resolution computed tomography, and/or UIP pattern, probable UIP or possible UIP pattern at lung biopsy according to the 2011 ATS/ERSARS/ALAT guidelines. Demographics and clinical and radiological data of the patients were recorded. All data recorded by researchers was evaluated by radiology and the clinical decision board. RESULTS: A total of 336 patients (253 men, 83 women, age 65.8 +/- 9.0 years) were evaluated. Of the patients with sufficient data for diag-nosis (n=300), the diagnosis was IPF in 121 (40.3%), unclassified idiopathic interstitial pneumonia in 50 (16.7%), combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema (CPFE) in 40 (13.3%), and lung involvement of connective tissue disease (CTD) in 16 (5.3%). When 29 patients with definite IPF features were added to the patients with CPFE, the total number of IPF patients reached 150 (50%). Rate of male sex (p<0.001), smoking history (p<0.001), and the presence of clubbing (p=0.001) were significantly high in patients with IPE None of the women <50 years and none of the men <50 years of age without a smoking history were diagnosed with IPE Presence of at least 1 of the symptoms suggestive of CTD, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and antinuclear antibody (FANA) positivity rates were significantly higher in the non-IPF group (p<0.001, p=0.029, p=0.009, respectively). CONCLUSION: The rate of IPF among patients with fibrotic ILD was 50%. In the differential diagnosis of IPF, sex, smoking habits, and the presence of clubbing are important. The presence of symptoms related to CTD, ESR elevation, and EANA positivity reduce the likelihood of IPF
