    Impact of stress hyperglycemia ratio on mortality in patients with cardiac arrest: insight from American MIMIC-IV database

    BackgroundStress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) has shown a predominant correlation with transient adverse events in critically ill patients. However, there remains a gap in comprehensive research regarding the association between SHR and mortality among patients experiencing cardiac arrest and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).MethodsA total of 535 patients with their initial ICU admission suffered cardiac arrest, according to the American Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-IV database. Patients were stratified into four categories based on quantiles of SHR. Multivariable Cox regression models were used to evaluate the association SHR and mortality. The association between SHR and mortality was assessed using multivariable Cox regression models. Subgroup analyses were conducted to determine whether SHR influenced ICU, 1-year, and long-term all-cause mortality in subgroups stratified according to diabetes status.ResultsPatients with higher SHR, when compared to the reference quartile 1 group, exhibited a greater risk of ICU mortality (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] = 3.029; 95% CI: 1.802-5.090), 1-year mortality (aHR = 3.057; 95% CI: 1.885-4.958), and long-term mortality (aHR = 3.183; 95% CI: 2.020-5.015). This association was particularly noteworthy among patients without diabetes, as indicated by subgroup analysis.ConclusionElevated SHR was notably associated with heightened risks of ICU, 1-year, and long-term all-cause mortality among cardiac arrest patients. These findings underscore the importance of considering SHR as a potential prognostic factor in the critical care management of cardiac arrest patients, warranting further investigation and clinical attention

    THE EXPRESSION OF INTERLEUKIN-1Β AND MIRNA-146A IN THE CEREBRAL CORTEX OF ACUTE ESCHERICHIA COLI MENINGITIS IMMATURE RAT MODEL

    The main limitation to advances in treatment of bacterial meningitis and its complications is the incomplete knowledge of the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of this disease. The aim of this research is to detect the expression of interleukin (IL)-1β as pro-inflammatory cytokine and miRNA (miR)-146a as post transcriptional inflammation associated microRNA (miRNA) in the cerebral cortex of acute Escherichia coli (E. coli) meningitis immature rat model. Immature rats in the post natal day 11 (PN11) were used to construct a model of acute E. coli meningitis and served as controls. The expression of IL-1β and miR-146a were detected in the cerebral cortex by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) analysis respectively, 24 hours after bacterial inoculation. In the cerebral cortical tissue of acute E. coli meningitis immature rat model the IL-1β expression was significantly upregulated while the miR-146a expression was significantly downregulated. This study tried to add a new insight on the molecular basis of the E. coli meningitis pathogenesis at its very early stage through detecting the expression of IL-1β and miR-146a in the cerebral cortex of the infected immature rats. Consequently, modulation of the IL-1β- miR-146a axis may be a new target for treatment of acute E. coli meningitis

    Structural Characteristics and Driving Factors of the Planktonic Eukaryotic Community in the Danjiangkou Reservoir, China

    Planktonic eukaryotes are widespread in aquatic ecosystems, and the study of their community composition and driving factors is of great significance to protecting and maintaining the balance of these ecosystems. This study evaluates five typical ecological sites in the Danjiangkou Reservoir—the water source for the project. This was done to comprehensively understand the composition of Danjiangkou Reservoir planktonic eukaryotes, and ensure the ecological balance of the water source for the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. The diversity of the planktonic eukaryotes in surface water and the factors driving changes in their abundance are analyzed with an 18S ribosomal DNA sequencing approach. Monitoring shows that the Danjiangkou Reservoir has good water quality. The Danjiangkou Reservoir planktonic eukaryote community is mainly composed of 11 phyla, of which Cryptomonadales is dominant, accounting for an average percentage of 65.19% of the community (47.2–84.90%). LEFSe analysis shows significant differences among samples in the abundances of 13 phyla, 20 classes, 23 orders, 26 families, and 27 genera, and there are also significant differences in the diversity of planktonic eukaryotes at different temporal and spatial scales. Redundancy analysis (RDA) show that water temperature, DO, SD, TN, and Chla are significant factors that affect the composition of the planktonic eukaryote community. Spearman rank correlation analysis combined with taxonomic difference analysis shows that Kathablepharidae and Choanoflagellida are not sensitive to environmental or physicochemical factors and that the interannual variations in their abundance are not significant. Network analysis shows that Protalveolata, Basidiomycota, P1-31, Bicosoecida, and Ochrophyta represent important nodes in the single-factor network, while Chytridiomycota, P1-31, Cryptomycota, Ochrophyta, Ichthyosporea, Bicosoecida, Protalveolata, and physicochemical factors (ORP, TN, WT, DO, SD, NH3-N, and NO3-N) represent important nodes in the two-factor network

    Effects of Transverse Baffle Design on Reducing Liquid Sloshing in Partially Filled Tank Vehicles

    Longitudinal liquid sloshing in partially filled clear-bore tanks causes extensive degradation of tankers braking performance. To reduce the negative effect of longitudinal liquid sloshing on tankers, three kinds of transverse baffles were designed, namely, the conventional baffle, the circular baffle, and the staggered baffle. Each kind of baffle took several forms to investigate the impact of baffle installation angle, the sizes of holes pierced on the baffle, and their arrangement on the antisloshing effect. FLUENT software was used to simulate liquid sloshing in tanks equipped with different kinds of transverse baffles and subject to constant braking deceleration. A time-series analysis of the forces act on tank walls and transverse baffles was carried out. It was drawn that the baffle shape and its installation angle have great impact on the antisloshing effect of baffles. The study on the antisloshing effect of different transverse baffles is of great significance for tank vehicle driving and braking safety, as well as for the design of optimal transverse baffles

    Preliminary study of regulation technology of wind field distribution on QTT site based on test of equivalent wind field

    The effect of wind gust on the large reflector antenna is one of the main factors that can affect the antenna performance and therefore, this effect must be minimized to meet the strict performance requirement in the world largest steerable telescope, which is QiTai Telescope (QTT). In this paper, the characteristics of the topography as well as the wind distribution around QTT site have been analyzed and consequently, a technology for improving the wind distribution in an active way has been proposed. Additionally, an equivalent wind distribution test rig for the proposed technology has been built in the lab and the corresponding experiment has been carried out. The experimental data indicated that the proposed technology was a promising tool for regulating the wind distribution for the large reflector antenna and it was found that the proposed technology can significantly reduce the wind speed as well as the wind impact range after the wind regulation has been given in the test. The results in this paper has provided a solid foundation for the regulation of the wind distribution of the QTT site

    Room-temperature ferromagnetism in epitaxial bilayer FeSb/SrTiO3(001) terminated with a Kagome lattice

    Two-dimensional (2D) magnets exhibit unique physical properties for potential applications in spintronics. To date, most 2D ferromagnets are obtained by mechanical exfoliation of bulk materials with van der Waals interlayer interactions, and the synthesis of single or few-layer 2D ferromagnets with strong interlayer coupling remains experimentally challenging. Here, we report the epitaxial growth of 2D non-van der Waals ferromagnetic bilayer FeSb on SrTiO3(001) substrates stabilized by strong coupling to the substrate, which exhibits in-plane magnetic anisotropy and a Curie temperature above 300 K. In-situ low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy and density-functional theory calculations further reveal that a Fe Kagome layer terminates the bilayer FeSb. Our results open a new avenue for further exploring emergent quantum phenomena from the interplay of ferromagnetism and topology for application in spintronics

    Effects of two Lactobacillus strains on lipid metabolism and intestinal microflora in rats fed a high-cholesterol diet

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The hypocholesterolemic effects of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have now become an area of great interest and controversy for many scientists. In this study, we evaluated the effects of <it>Lactobacillus plantarum </it>9-41-A and <it>Lactobacillus fermentum </it>M1-16 on body weight, lipid metabolism and intestinal microflora of rats fed a high-cholesterol diet.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Forty rats were assigned to four groups and fed either a normal or a high-cholesterol diet. The LAB-treated groups received the high-cholesterol diet supplemented with <it>Lactobacillus plantarum </it>9-41-A or <it>Lactobacillus fermentum </it>M1-16. The rats were sacrificed after a 6-week feeding period. Body weights, visceral organ and fat pad weights, serum and liver cholesterol and lipid levels, and fecal cholesterol and bile acid concentrations were measured. Liver lipid deposition and adipocyte size were evaluated histologically.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Compared with rats fed a high-cholesterol diet but without LAB supplementation, serum total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides levels were significantly decreased in LAB-treated rats (p < 0.05), with no significant change in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Hepatic cholesterol and triglyceride levels and liver lipid deposition were significantly decreased in the LAB-treated groups (p < 0.05). Accordingly, both fecal cholesterol and bile acids levels were significantly increased after LAB administration (p < 0.05). Intestinal <it>Lactobacillus </it>and <it>Bifidobacterium </it>colonies were increased while <it>Escherichia coli </it>colonies were decreased in the LAB-treated groups. Fecal water content was higher in the LAB-treated groups. Compared with rats fed a high-cholesterol diet, administration of <it>Lactobacillus plantarum </it>9-41-A resulted in decreases in the body weight gain, liver and fat pad weight, and adipocytes size (p < 0.05).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>This study suggests that LAB supplementation has hypocholesterolemic effects in rats fed a high-cholesterol diet. The ability to lower serum cholesterol varies among LAB strains. Our strains might be able to improve the intestinal microbial balance and potentially improve intestinal transit time. Although the mechanism is largely unknown, <it>L. plantarum </it>9-41-A may play a role in fat metabolism.</p

    Analysis of Malt Root Nutritional Components and Its Application Prospect

    In this paper, the nutritional composition, active ingredients, and digestibility of malt roots were measured and analyzed and compared with those of wheat bran.The results showed that the content of protein(34.3%) and dietary fiber (39.4%) in malt roots are higher than those in wheat bran.The content of essential amino acids (8.37 g/100 g) is twice than that of wheat bran (4.03 g/100 g).The content of lysine, threonine and valine are relatively high in malt roots.Additionally, malt roots not only contain vitamin E (3.14 mg/100g),but also have a higher content of vitamin B2, B6 and B12, folic acid, and vitamin C than those in wheat bran(0.6 mg/100 g, 0.46 mg/100 g, 0.11 μg/100 g, 0.17 mg/100 g, 4.35 mg/100 g, respectively).Furthermore, the malt roots are rich in sodium, potassium, calcium, zinc, copper, phosphorus, iron, and magnesium.It also contains a high content of total polyphenols (1.09%) and a small amount of polysaccharides.At the same time, the regulatory status, application status and application prospect were analyzed from the feed, food and cosmetics fields, which provided a basis for the high-value utilization of malt root by-products

    The diagnostic analysis of the fault coupling effects in planet bearing

    The purpose of this paper is to investigate the fault coupling effects in the planet bearing as well as the corresponding vibration signatures in the resultant vibration spectrum. In a planetary gear application, the planet bearing can not only spin around the planet gear axis, but also revolve about the sun gear axis and this rotating mechanism poses a big challenge for the diagnostic analysis of the planet bearing vibration spectrum. In addition, the frequency component interaction and overlap phenomenon in the vibration spectrum caused by the fault coupling effect can even worsen the diagnosis results. To further the understanding of the fault coupling effects in a planet bearing, a 34° of freedom planetary gear model with detailed planet bearing model was established to obtain the dynamic response in the presence of various bearing fault scenarios. The method of modelling the bearing distributed faults and localized faults has been introduced in this paper, which can be further incorporated into the planetary gear model to obtain the faulted vibration signal. The “benchmark” method has been adopted to enhance the planet bearing fault impulses in the vibration signals and in total, the amplitude demodulation results from 20 planet bearing fault scenarios have been investigated and analyzed. The coherence estimation over the vibration frequency domain has been proposed as a tool to quantify the fault impact contribution from different fault modes and the results suggested that the outer raceway fault contributes most to the resultant planet bearing vibration spectrum in all the investigated fault scenarios
