A survey on composition and microbiota of fresh and fermented yak milk at different Tibetan altitudes
Yak milk is a type of milk that people are less familiar with due to its remote geographical location, the particular geographical environment and climatic conditions in Tibet, which may have significant effects on composition, microbiota and fermentation outcome. To investigate the chemical composition and microbiota of fresh and fermented yak milk, and to isolate and characterize the predominant microorganisms in the fermented milk, yak milk (24 fresh and 30 fermented milk samples) was collected from four areas of different altitudes in Tibet, and their microbiological profile and chemical composition were investigated. Yak milk had a higher fat, crude protein, lactose and dry matter content than cow milk. The fermented yak milk showed a great diversity in fat and dry matter levels due to the different ways of processing in different localities, and lower pH and higher lactic acid content compared with commercial cow milk yogurt. Fermented yak milk had a better sanitary quality than fresh yak milk. Three species of lactobacilli (Lactobacillus fermentum, Lactobacillus helveticus and Lactobacillus curvatus) and five species of yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Candida kefyr, Candida lambica, Candida famat and Candida holmii) were identified phenotypically and encountered as predominant fermentation microbiota. The predominant lactic species in fermented milk was L. fermentu
Intergrowth and thermoelectric properties in the Bi-Ca-Co-O system
Single crystals of the Bi-Ca-Co-O system have been grown using the flux
method with cooling from 900\celsius and 950\celsius, respectively. The
single crystals are characterized by transmission electron microscopy and X-ray
diffraction. The misfit cobaltite
[CaBiCoO][CoO] single crystals with
quadruple (=4) rocksalt (RS) layer are achieved with cooling from
900\celsius. Such crystal exhibits room-temperature thermoelectric power
(TEP) of 180V/K, much larger than that in Sr-based misfit cobaltites with
quadruple RS layer. However, intergrowth of single crystals of quadruple
(=4) and triple (=3) RS-type layer-based misfit cobaltites is observed
with cooling from 950\celsius. Both of TEP and resistivity were obviously
enhanced by the intergrowth compared to
[CaBiCoO][CoO] single crystal,
while the power factor at room temperature remains unchanged.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures. To be published in Journal of Crystal Growt
Magnetic phase diagram in EuLaFeAs single crystals
We have systematically measured resistivity, susceptibility and specific heat
under different magnetic fields (H) in EuLaFeAs single
crystals. It is found that a metamagnetic transition from A-type
antiferromagnetism to ferromagnetism occurs at a critical field for magnetic
sublattice of . The jump of specific heat is suppressed and shifts to
low temperature with increasing H up to the critical value, then shifts to high
temperature with further increasing H. Such behavior supports the metamagnetic
transition. Detailed H-T phase diagrams for x=0 and 0.15 crystals are given,
and possible magnetic structure is proposed. Magnetoresistance measurements
indicate that there exists a strong coupling between local moment of
and charge in Fe-As layer. These results are very significant to understand the
underlying physics of FeAs superconductors.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
The newly observed open-charm states in quark model
Comparing the measured properties of the newly observed open-charm states
D(2550), D(2600), D(2750), D(2760), D_{s1}(2710), D_{sJ}(2860), and
D_{sJ}(3040) with our predicted spectroscopy and strong decays in a constituent
quark model, we find that: (1) the D(2\,^1S_0) assignment to D(2550) remains
open for its too broad width determined by experiment; (2) the D(2600) and
can be identified as the 2\,^3S_1-1\,^3D_1 mixtures; (3) if
the D(2760) and D(2750) are indeed the same resonance, they would be the
D(1\,^3D_3); otherwise, they could be assigned as the D(1\,^3D_3) and
, respectively; (4) the could be either the
's partner or the D_s(1\,^3D_3); and (5) both the
and interpretations for the seem likely. The
and radiative decays of these sates are also studied. Further
experimental efforts are needed to test the present quarkonium assignments for
these new open-charm states.Comment: 26 pages,7 figures, journal versio

Determining the upper limit of Gamma_{ee} for the Y(4260)
By fitting the R values between 3.7 and 5.0 GeV measured by the BES
collaboration, the upper limit of the electron width of the newly discovered
resonance Y(4260) is determined to be 580 eV at 90% C.L. Together with the
BABAR measurement on the product of Gamma_{ee} and BR(Y(4260) --> pi+pi-
J/psi), this implies a large decay width of Y(4260) --> pi+pi- J/psi final
states.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure
Measurements of J/psi Decays into 2(pi+pi-)eta and 3(pi+pi-)eta
Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector,
the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are
measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and
(7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
Partial Wave Analysis of
BES data on are presented. The
contribution peaks strongly near threshold. It is fitted with a
broad resonance with mass MeV, width MeV. A broad resonance peaking at 2020 MeV is also required
with width MeV. There is further evidence for a component
peaking at 2.55 GeV. The non- contribution is close to phase
space; it peaks at 2.6 GeV and is very different from .Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, 1 table, Submitted to PL
BESII Detector Simulation
A Monte Carlo program based on Geant3 has been developed for BESII detector
simulation. The organization of the program is outlined, and the digitization
procedure for simulating the response of various sub-detectors is described.
Comparisons with data show that the performance of the program is generally
satisfactory.Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures, uses elsart.cls, to be submitted to NIM
Measurement of branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0(892) and Cabibbo-suppressed K*0(892) decays of neutral and charged D mesons
The branching fractions for the inclusive Cabibbo-favored ~K*0 and
Cabibbo-suppressed K*0 decays of D mesons are measured based on a data sample
of 33 pb-1 collected at and around the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with
the BES-II detector at the BEPC collider. The branching fractions for the
decays D+(0) -> ~K*0(892)X and D0 -> K*0(892)X are determined to be BF(D0 ->
\~K*0X) = (8.7 +/- 4.0 +/- 1.2)%, BF(D+ -> ~K*0X) = (23.2 +/- 4.5 +/- 3.0)% and
BF(D0 -> K*0X) = (2.8 +/- 1.2 +/- 0.4)%. An upper limit on the branching
fraction at 90% C.L. for the decay D+ -> K*0(892)X is set to be BF(D+ -> K*0X)
< 6.6%
