    The New Learning

This explorative rather than scientific paper analyses trends in the way we learn and teach. It distinguishes three historic modes of learning, Classical Learning, Industrial Learning and the emerging New Learning. After describing these modes, the article identifies forces for change in our way of education, resulting in a sketch of future learning

Estudio sobre el futuro de la construcción

Will the next decade see the virtual disappearance of asbestos, zinc and copper from the building scene? Will the architect become essentially an industrial designer? Will work on finishings and internal layouts become the province of the client/customer, much of it on a do-it-yourself basis? These are some of the indications in a research study of likely trends up to 1990 commissioned by the Dutch Stichting Bouwresearch {SBR) and carried out by a committee of 13 specialists including the authors.

[EN] The goal of this paper is to analyse the households’ environmental impact in a regional economy, including the household direct impact as well as the impact associated with the production of goods and services of the household demand. Moreover, per capita ecological impacts for each household category according to income level are obtained. We focus on water consumption, and water and atmospheric pollution. The framework is based on a regional SAMEA (Social Accounting Matrix and Environmental Accounts), and vertically integrated environmental indicators using the Leontief model. Flores, M.; Mainar, AJ. (2011). Analysis of environmental impact arising from economic activities. Fossil fuel prices and the economic and budgetary challenges of a small energy-importing economy : the case of Portugal

This paper examines the economic and budgetary impacts of fuel prices using a dynamic general equilibrium model of the Portuguese economy which high- lights the mechanisms of endogenous growth and includes a detailed modeling of the public sector. The fuel price scenarios are based on forecasts by the US Department of Energy (DOE-US) and the International Energy Agency (IEA-OECD) and represent a wide range of projections for absolute and relative fossil fuel prices. In terms of the long term economic impact, our results suggest a 1.9 % drop in GDP in the DOE-US scenario and 1.6 % in the IEA-OECD scenario. As to the budgetary impact, higher fuel prices lead to lower tax revenues, which, coupled with a reduction in public spending, translate into lower public deficits. Accordingly, increasing fuel prices create an important policy trade off in that they can contribute to reducing the public deficit while hindering economic growth. We find that fairly strong incentives for wind energy can reduce the economic impact of fuel prices by 14.2 % in the DOE-US price scenario and 18.5 % reduction in the IEA-OECD price scenario. Finally, our results highlight the importance of public sector spending decisions and the mechanisms of endogenous growth in understanding the impact of fossil fuel prices. Indeed, a scenario of higher fuel prices would, with exogenous public decisions and exogenous economic growth assumptions, result in substantially smaller economic effects and yield adverse budgetary effects.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Unraveling the attitudes on entrepreneurial universities: the case of Croatian and Spanish universities

The objective of this paper is to present evidence that there are different types of supportive faculty members. We conducted a case study on a sample of Croatian and Spanish universities by using an already tested ENTRE-U scale for measuring the faculty members’ attitudes. These two scenarios are quite different in terms of their innovation systems, economic context and university system. We tested and found no evidence of any statistically significant difference due to the country. These two facts suggest the possible existence of an isomorphic trajectory when implementing entrepreneurial universities regardless the context. University managers should be aware of the existence of three different types of supportive individuals. Each of these groups requires a certain program of human resource development. This shifts the debate to how entrepreneurial universities should manage the tensions arising from the need of some degree of specialization in any of the three roles of the faculty members, namely teaching, researching and transfer of the knowledge stemming from research results
