This thesis is a study of Sara Paretsky\u27s and Mara Gd\u27s popular novels in relation to the influence of economic and sociocultural factors which un¬derlie the creation of Sara Paretsky\u27s and Mara Gd\u27s detective novels. The works of popular literature are chosen here because this thesis is also in¬tended to argue that practically the works of popular culture are also inter¬esting and even important to be analyzed. This study covers, firstly, the discussion about detective novels as one of the popular culture\u27s products which have a big number of readers, and secondly an analysis of the influence of economic and sociocultural condi¬tions on the creation of both these American and Indonesian detective nov¬els. Applying an interdisciplinary approach, and assuming that Sara Paretsky\u27s and Mara Gd\u27s detective novels are the mental evidence in seeing the motif, variation, and the rate of crime in both Indonesia and America, this study particularly describes the difference in the obstacles and challenges which should be faced by the detectives. For this purpose, four novels of each are observed. The result is then compared to the realities of economic and sociocultural conditions in America and Indonesia during the times these popular detective novels were written. The result of the observation shows that in the case of crime rate, America suffers higher crime rate than Indonesia because one of the factors is the advancement in using industrial technology. Keywords: Economic condition â sociocultural condition - the influence â crime â detective

The materials and tools used were soil from conventional rice farming land, Nutrient Agar (NA) medium, alcohol 70%, aquades, PbNO3 solution, aluminum foil, cling wrap, heat-resistant plastic, spiritus, physiological solution of 0.85% NaCl, autoclave, test tubes, petri dishes, erlenmeyer flasks, measuring cylinder, beaker glass, laminar air flow (LAF), shaker, magnetic stirrer, micropipette, refrigerator, analytical balance, ose needle, pH meter, vortex, ice box, shovel , tube racks, bunsen, stationery, labels, and other supporting materials and equipment. This research is a sampling research and continued with laboratory tests including bacterial isolation, colony count calculation and macromorphological characterization. The data obtained from morphological observations are presented in the form of descriptions, while quantitative data are presented in the form of numbers and are used as primary data. The results of isolating bacteria with NA medium added with 5 ppm lead, there are five bacterial isolates were selected, namely KMPb O, KT1Pb C, KT2Pb H, KB1Pb H, and KB2Pb K. Based on the TPC (Total Plate Count) test with a range of 30-300 colonies, the number of bacterial colonies ranged from 10,45 x 106 – 28,9 x 106 CFU/ml. The colony morphological characteristics of the five bacterial isolates were dominated by round in shape, smooth texture and flat elevation
