PRIMARY PRODUCTION OF PHYTOPLANKTON AND MACROPHYTES IN AN EUTROPHIC LAGOON, LAKE KYUNGPO, KOREA

    Get PDF
Primary production of phytoplankton and macrophytes are measured in a eutrophic lagoon, Lake Kyungpo, where 86% of the lake is inhabited by macrophytes. Phytoplankton standing crop was high, 40-130 mgChl/m³, but productivity per unit area was suppressed low by the light deficiency due to high content of inorganic suspended particles. Contribution of phytoplankton and macrophytes to the total annual production was 55% and 45%, respectively. Allochthonous organic input estimated from BOD was 36% of total organic matter supply. Nitrogen seems to be the limiting nutrient for phytoplankton, since nitrate is often depleted in the water column of macrophyte-growing region and N/P ratio is low. Turbulence and the vertical transfer of oxygen and nutrient are strongly suppressed by the dense population of macrophytes and the chemocline of high stability caused by saline bottom water.Article信州大学理学部付属諏訪臨湖実験所報告 7: 99-103(1991)departmental bulletin pape

HLA and Disease Associations in Koreans

The human leukocyte antigen (HLA), the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) in humans has been known to reside on chromosome 6 and encodes cell-surface antigen-presenting proteins and many other proteins related to immune system function. The HLA is highly polymorphic and the most genetically variable coding loci in humans. In addition to a critical role in transplantation medicine, HLA and disease associations have been widely studied across the populations world-wide and are found to be important in prediction of disease susceptibility, resistance and of evolutionary maintenance of genetic diversity. Because recently developed molecular based HLA typing has several advantages like improved specimen stability and increased resolution of HLA types, the association between HLA alleles and a given disease could be more accurately quantified. Here, in this review, we have collected HLA association data on some autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, cancers, drug responsiveness and other diseases with unknown etiology in Koreans and attempt to summarize some remarkable HLA alleles related with specific diseases

Massive Charged Scalar Quasinormal Modes of Reissner-N\"ordstrom Black Hole Surrounded by Quintessence

We evaluate the complex frequencies of the normal modes for the massive charged scalar field perturbations around a Reissner-N\"ordstrom black hole surrounded by a static and spherically symmetric quintessence using third order WKB approximation approach. Due to the presence of quintessence, quasinormal frequencies damp more slowly. We studied the variation of quasinormal frequencies with charge of the black bole, mass and charge of perturbating scalar field and the quintessential state parameter.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures and one tabl

Laser-Induced Silver Nanoparticles on Titanium Oxide for Photocatalytic Degradation of Methylene Blue

    Get PDF
Silver nanoparticles doped on titanium oxide (TiO2) were produced by laser-liquid interaction of silver nitrate (AgNO3) in isopropanol. Characteristics of Ag/TiO2 (Ag doped TiO2) nanoparticles produced by the methods presented in this article were investigated by XRD, TEM, SEM, EDX, and UV-Vis. From the UV-Vis measurements, the absorption of visible light of the Ag/TiO2 photocatalysts was improved (additional absorption at longer wavelength in visible light region) obviously. The photocatalytic efficiency of Ag/TiO2 was tested by the degradation of methylene blue (MB) in aqueous solution. A maximum of 82.3% MB degradation is achieved by 2.0 wt% Ag/TiO2 photocatalyst under 2 h illumination with a halogen lamp
