A Unified Theory of Matter Genesis: Asymmetric Freeze-In
We propose a unified theory of dark matter (DM) genesis and baryogenesis. It
explains the observed link between the DM density and the baryon density, and
is fully testable by a combination of collider experiments and precision tests.
Our theory utilises the "thermal freeze-in" mechanism of DM production,
generating particle anti-particle asymmetries in decays from visible to hidden
sectors. Calculable, linked, asymmetries in baryon number and DM number are
produced by the feeble interaction mediating between the two sectors, while the
out-of-equilibrium condition necessary for baryogenesis is provided by the
different temperatures of the visible and hidden sectors. An illustrative model
is presented where the visible sector is the MSSM, with the relevant CP
violation arising from phases in the gaugino and Higgsino masses, and both
asymmetries are generated at temperatures of order 100 GeV. Experimental
signals of this mechanism can be spectacular, including: long-lived metastable
states late decaying at the LHC; apparent baryon-number or lepton-number
violating signatures associated with these highly displaced vertices; EDM
signals correlated with the observed decay lifetimes and within reach of
planned experiments; and a prediction for the mass of the dark matter particle
that is sensitive to the spectrum of the visible sector and the nature of the

The thickness of the shower disc as observed in showers produced by primaries above 10 (19)eV
The thickness of the shower disk has been measured in showers initiated by primaries of energy to 10 the 19th power eV using the large area water Cerenkov detectors of the Haverah Park array. Results are presented which (1) provide supporting evidence for the accuracy of analysis procedures in giant showers, (2) offer an evaluation of the mini-array technique for the detection of giant showers and (3) extend earlier work on developmental fluctuations above 10 to the 19th power eV

Geographic Information Systems in Developing Countries: Issues in Data Collection, Implementation and Management
Decision making at the national level in both developing and developed countries requires the integrated use of information from a multitude of sources. Both local and national governments in many developed countries have found geographic information systems (GIS) to be a critical tool in resource management, regional planning, and economic development. Unfortunately, the practical use of GIS in many developing countries is hampered by the lack of accurate and detailed spatial and demographic data, political considerations, and management issues. To highlight importance of these issues, we present a framework for GIS adoption in less developed countries and discuss these and other constraints in the context of this framework. We also offer ideas for technical, managerial, and policy initiatives that should be helpful in addressing impediments to GIS adoption. These ideas are summarized in a set of propositions and a related framework that shows our expectations about the impact of these initiatives on implementation success

This paper discusses the status of geographic information systems (GIS) research in the fields of MIS. To do this, we define the technology as it relates to the IS field. We then discuss the research that has been done in other disciplines to study this technology. Finally, we present an outline of the research topics pertaining to GIS that appear to be of relevance to the IS field

Scaling and Intermittency in Animal Behavior
Scale-invariant spatial or temporal patterns and L\'evy flight motion have
been observed in a large variety of biological systems. It has been argued that
animals in general might perform L\'evy flight motion with power law
distribution of times between two changes of the direction of motion. Here we
study the temporal behaviour of nesting gilts. The time spent by a gilt in a
given form of activity has power law probability distribution without finite
average. Further analysis reveals intermittent eruption of certain periodic
behavioural sequences which are responsible for the scaling behaviour and
indicates the existence of a critical state. We show that this behaviour is in
close analogy with temporal sequences of velocity found in turbulent flows,
where random and regular sequences alternate and form an intermittent sequence.Comment: 10 page
Antifibrotic therapy in progressive pulmonary fibrosis: a review of recent advances
Progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF) is a manifestation of a heterogenous group of underlying interstitial lung disease (ILD) diagnoses, defined as non-idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) progressive fibrotic ILD meeting at least two of the following criteria in the previous 12 months: worsening respiratory symptoms, absolute decline in forced vital capacity (FVC) more than or equal to 5% and/or absolute decline in diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) more than or equal to 10% and/or radiological progression. The authors subjectively reviewed a synthesis of literature from PubMed to identify recent advances in the diagnosis and characterisation of PPF, treatment recommendations, and management challenges. This review provides a comprehensive summary of recent advances and highlights future directions for the diagnosis, management, and treatment of PPF. Recent advances in defining the criteria for PPF diagnosis and licensing of treatment are likely to support further characterisation of the PPF patient population and improve our understanding of prevalence. The diagnosis of PPF remains challenging with the need for a specialised ILD multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach. The evidence base supports the use of immunomodulatory therapy to treat inflammatory ILDs and antifibrotic therapy where PPF develops. Treatment needs to be tailored to the specific underlying disease and determined on a case-by-case basis
