Spin Conduction in Anisotropic 3-D Topological Insulators

When topological insulators possess rotational symmetry their spin lifetime is tied to the scattering time. We show that in anisotropic TIs this tie can be broken and the spin lifetime can be very large. Two different mechanisms can obtain spin conduction over long distances. The first is tuning the Hamiltonian to conserve a spin operator cos⁡ϕ σx+sin⁡ϕ σy\cos \phi \, \sigma_x + \sin \phi \, \sigma_y, while the second is tuning the Fermi energy to be near a local extremum of the energy dispersion. Both mechanisms can produce persistent spin helices. We report spin lifetimes and spin diffusion equations.Comment: Added a page of additional text and refined the presentation. AReS and MaRS - Adversarial and MMD-Minimizing Regression for SDEs

Stochastic differential equations are an important modeling class in many disciplines. Consequently, there exist many methods relying on various discretization and numerical integration schemes. In this paper, we propose a novel, probabilistic model for estimating the drift and diffusion given noisy observations of the underlying stochastic system. Using state-of-the-art adversarial and moment matching inference techniques, we avoid the discretization schemes of classical approaches. This leads to significant improvements in parameter accuracy and robustness given random initial guesses. On four established benchmark systems, we compare the performance of our algorithms to state-of-the-art solutions based on extended Kalman filtering and Gaussian processes.Comment: Published at the Thirty-sixth International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML 2019

This Comment compares the development of sexual harassment law in the United States and India. It strives to contribute to this global feminist debate by highlighting the successes and failures of each country\u27s respective anti-harassment protections. It also compares the United States\u27 and India\u27s legal approaches to the problem of workplace sexual harassment. The Comment also discusses the successes and failures of the U.S. and Indian protections in a manner that attempts to minimize the problems present in cross-cultural studies

LipidXplorer: A Software for Consensual Cross-Platform Lipidomics

    Get PDF
LipidXplorer is the open source software that supports the quantitative characterization of complex lipidomes by interpreting large datasets of shotgun mass spectra. LipidXplorer processes spectra acquired on any type of tandem mass spectrometers; it identifies and quantifies molecular species of any ionizable lipid class by considering any known or assumed molecular fragmentation pathway independently of any resource of reference mass spectra. It also supports any shotgun profiling routine, from high throughput top-down screening for molecular diagnostic and biomarker discovery to the targeted absolute quantification of low abundant lipid species. Full documentation on installation and operation of LipidXplorer, including tutorial, collection of spectra interpretation scripts, FAQ and user forum are available through the wiki site at: https://wiki.mpi-cbg.de/wiki/lipidx/index.php/Main_Page
