Lymphocyte predominant cells detect Moraxella catarrhalis-derived antigens in nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma.
Nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL) is a rare lymphoma of B-cell origin with frequent expression of functional B-cell receptors (BCRs). Here we report that expression cloning followed by antigen screening identifies DNA-directed RNA polymerase beta' (RpoC) from Moraxella catarrhalis as frequent antigen of BCRs of IgD + LP cells. Patients show predominance of HLA-DRB1*04/07 and the IgVH genes encode extraordinarily long CDR3s. High-titer, light-chain-restricted anti-RpoC IgG1/κ-type serum-antibodies are additionally found in these patients. RpoC and MID/hag, a superantigen co-expressed by Moraxella catarrhalis that is known to activate IgD + B cells by binding to the Fc domain of IgD, have additive activation effects on the BCR, the NF-κB pathway and the proliferation of IgD + DEV cells expressing RpoC-specific BCRs. This suggests an additive antigenic and superantigenic stimulation of B cells with RpoC-specific IgD + BCRs under conditions of a permissive MHC-II haplotype as a model of NLPHL lymphomagenesis, implying future treatment strategies
Galaxy Clusters as Reservoirs of Heavy Dark Matter and High-Energy Cosmic Rays: Constraints from Neutrino Observations
Galaxy Clusters (GCs) are the largest reservoirs of both dark matter and
cosmic rays (CRs). Dark matter self-annihilation can lead to a high luminosity
in gamma rays and neutrinos, enhanced by a strong degree of clustering in dark
matter substructures. Hadronic CR interactions can also lead to a high
luminosity in gamma rays and neutrinos, enhanced by the confinement of CRs from
cluster accretion/merger shocks and active galactic nuclei. We show that
IceCube/KM3Net observations of high-energy neutrinos can probe the nature of
GCs and the separate dark matter and CR emission processes, taking into account
how the results depend on the still-substantial uncertainties. Neutrino
observations are relevant at high energies, especially at >10 TeV. Our results
should be useful for improving experimental searches for high-energy neutrino
emission. Neutrino telescopes are sensitive to extended sources formed by dark
matter substructures and CRs distributed over large scales. Recent observations
by Fermi and imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes have placed interesting
constraints on the gamma-ray emission from GCs. We also provide calculations of
the gamma-ray fluxes, taking into account electromagnetic cascades inside GCs,
which can be important for injections at sufficiently high energies. This also
allows us to extend previous gamma-ray constraints to very high dark matter
masses and significant CR injections at very high energies. Using both
neutrinos and gamma rays, which can lead to comparable constraints, will allow
more complete understandings of GCs. Neutrinos are essential for some dark
matter annihilation channels, and for hadronic instead of electronic CRs. Our
results suggest that the multi-messenger observations of GCs will be able to
give useful constraints on specific models of dark matter and CRs. [Abstract

Investigating Gamma-Ray Lines from Dark Matter with Future Observatories
We study the prospects for studying line features in gamma-ray spectra with
upcoming gamma-ray experiments, such as HESS-II, the Cherenkov Telescope Array
(CTA), and the GAMMA-400 satellite. As an example we use the narrow feature at
130 GeV seen in public data from the Fermi-LAT satellite. We found that all
three experiments should be able to confidently confirm or rule out the
presence of this 130 GeV feature. If it is real, it should be confirmed with a
confidence level higher than 5 sigma. Assuming it to be a spectral signature of
dark matter origin, GAMMA-400, thanks to a projected energy resolution of about
1.5% at 100 GeV, should also be able to resolve both the \gamma\gamma-line and
a corresponding Z\gamma- or H\gamma-feature, if the corresponding branching
ratio is comparable to that into two photons. It will also allow to distinguish
between a gamma-ray line and the similar feature resulting from internal
bremsstrahlung photons.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, 1 tabl
Gravitational wave probes of dark matter: challenges and opportunities
In this white paper, we discuss the prospects for characterizing and identifying dark matter using gravitational waves, covering a wide range of dark matter candidate types and signals. We argue that present and upcoming gravitational wave probes offer unprecedented opportunities for unraveling the nature of dark matter and we identify the most urgent challenges and open problems with the aim of encouraging a strong community effort at the interface between these two exciting fields of research
