A Continuously Growing Dataset of Sentential Paraphrases
A major challenge in paraphrase research is the lack of parallel corpora. In
this paper, we present a new method to collect large-scale sentential
paraphrases from Twitter by linking tweets through shared URLs. The main
advantage of our method is its simplicity, as it gets rid of the classifier or
human in the loop needed to select data before annotation and subsequent
application of paraphrase identification algorithms in the previous work. We
present the largest human-labeled paraphrase corpus to date of 51,524 sentence
pairs and the first cross-domain benchmarking for automatic paraphrase
identification. In addition, we show that more than 30,000 new sentential
paraphrases can be easily and continuously captured every month at ~70%
precision, and demonstrate their utility for downstream NLP tasks through
phrasal paraphrase extraction. We make our code and data freely available.Comment: 11 pages, accepted to EMNLP 201
Experimental analysis for the effect of dynamic capillarity on stress transformation in porous silicon
The evolution of real-time stress in porous silicon(PS) during drying is investigated using micro-Raman spectroscopy. The results show that the PS sample underwent non-negligible stress when immersed in liquid and suffered a stress impulsion during drying. Such nonlinear transformation and nonhomogeneneous distribution of stress are regarded as the coupling effects of several physical phenomena attributable to the intricate topological structure of PS. The effect of dynamic capillarity can induce microcracks and even collapse in PSstructures during manufacture and storage. This work is funded by the National Natural Science

The Influence of Chan Buddhism Spirit on Chinese Music DE LâINFLUENCE DU ZEN SUR LA MUSIQUE CHINOISE
Chan Buddhism is an influential school of Buddhism in China; the philosophic thinking it advocates has influenced Chinese music and culture in many ways, which results in four orientations of the development of Chinese music: firstly, Chinese music put emphasis on its artistic conception; secondly, Chinese music emphasizes spiritual charm; thirdly, Chinese music values self-intuition; fourthly, Chinese music values natural beauty. Empirical metallicity-dependent calibrations of effective temperature against colours for dwarfs and giants based on interferometric data
We present empirical metallicity-dependent calibrations of effective
temperature against colours for dwarfs of luminosity classes IV and V and for
giants of luminosity classes II and III, based on a collection from the
literature of about two hundred nearby stars with direct effective temperature
measurements of better than 2.5 per cent. The calibrations are valid for an
effective temperature range 3,100 - 10,000 K for dwarfs of spectral types M5 to
A0 and 3,100 - 5,700 K for giants of spectral types K5 to G5. A total of
twenty-one colours for dwarfs and eighteen colours for giants of bands of four
photometric systems, i.e. the Johnson (), the Cousins
(), the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS, ) and the Two
Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS, ), have been calibrated. Restricted
by the metallicity range of the current sample, the calibrations are mainly
applicable for disk stars ([Fe/H]). The normalized percentage
residuals of the calibrations are typically 2.0 and 1.5 per cent for dwarfs and
giants, respectively. Some systematic discrepancies at various levels are found
between the current scales and those available in the literature (e.g. those
based on the infrared flux method IRFM or spectroscopy). Based on the current
calibrations, we have re-determined the colours of the Sun. We have also
investigated the systematic errors in effective temperatures yielded by the
current on-going large scale low- to intermediate-resolution stellar
spectroscopic surveys. We show that the calibration of colour ()
presented in the current work provides an invaluable tool for the estimation of
stellar effective temperature for those on-going or upcoming surveys.Comment: 28 pages, 19 figures, 8 tables, accepted for publication in MNRA
Impact of high-frequency pumping on anomalous finite-size effects in three-dimensional topological insulators
Lowering of the thickness of a thin-film three-dimensional topological
insulator down to a few nanometers results in the gap opening in the spectrum
of topologically protected two-dimensional surface states. This phenomenon,
which is referred to as the anomalous finite-size effect, originates from
hybridization between the states propagating along the opposite boundaries. In
this work, we consider a bismuth-based topological insulator and show how the
coupling to an intense high-frequency linearly polarized pumping can further be
used to manipulate the value of a gap. We address this effect within recently
proposed Brillouin-Wigner perturbation theory that allows us to map a
time-dependent problem into a stationary one. Our analysis reveals that both
the gap and the components of the group velocity of the surface states can be
tuned in a controllable fashion by adjusting the intensity of the driving field
within an experimentally accessible range and demonstrate the effect of
light-induced band inversion in the spectrum of the surface states for high
enough values of the pump.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
A role of corazonin receptor in larval-pupal transition and pupariation in the oriental fruit fly Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae)
Corazonin (Crz) is a neuropeptide hormone, but also a neuropeptide modulator that is internally released within the CNS, and it has a widespread distribution in insects with diverse physiological functions. Here, we identified and cloned the cDNAs of Bactrocera dorsalis that encode Crz and its receptor CrzR. Mature BdCrz has 11 residues with a unique Ser11 substitution (instead of the typical Asn) and a His in the evolutionary variable position 7. The BdCrzR cDNA encodes a putative protein of 608 amino acids with 7 putative transmembrane domains, typical for the structure of G-protein-coupled receptors. When expressed in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, the BdCrzR exhibited a high sensitivity and selectivity for Crz (EC50 approximate to 52.5 nM). With qPCR, the developmental stage and tissue-specific expression profiles in B. dorsalis demonstrated that both BdCrz and BdCrzR were highly expressed in the larval stage, and BdCrzR peaked in 2-day-old 3rd-instar larvae, suggesting that the BdCrzR may play an important role in the larval-pupal transition behavior. Immunochemical localization confirmed the production of Crz in the central nervous system (CNS), specifically by a group of three neurons in the dorso-lateral protocerebrum and eight pairs of lateral neurons in the ventral nerve cord. qPCR analysis located the BdCrzR in both the CNS and epitracheal gland, containing the Inka cells. Importantly, dsRNA-BdCrzR-mediated gene-silencing caused a delay in larval-pupal transition and pupariation, and this phenomenon agreed with a delayed expression of tyrosine hydroxylase and dopa-decarboxylase genes. We speculate that CrzR-silencing blocked dopamine synthesis, resulting in the inhibition of pupariation and cuticular melanization. Finally, injection of Crz in head-ligated larvae could rescue the effects. These findings provide a new insight into the roles of Crz signaling pathway components in B. dorsalis and support an important role of CrzR in larval-pupal transition and pupariation behavior
SelFLoc: Selective Feature Fusion for Large-scale Point Cloud-based Place Recognition
Point cloud-based place recognition is crucial for mobile robots and
autonomous vehicles, especially when the global positioning sensor is not
accessible. LiDAR points are scattered on the surface of objects and buildings,
which have strong shape priors along different axes. To enhance message passing
along particular axes, Stacked Asymmetric Convolution Block (SACB) is designed,
which is one of the main contributions in this paper. Comprehensive experiments
demonstrate that asymmetric convolution and its corresponding strategies
employed by SACB can contribute to the more effective representation of point
cloud feature. On this basis, Selective Feature Fusion Block (SFFB), which is
formed by stacking point- and channel-wise gating layers in a predefined
sequence, is proposed to selectively boost salient local features in certain
key regions, as well as to align the features before fusion phase. SACBs and
SFFBs are combined to construct a robust and accurate architecture for point
cloud-based place recognition, which is termed SelFLoc. Comparative
experimental results show that SelFLoc achieves the state-of-the-art (SOTA)
performance on the Oxford and other three in-house benchmarks with an
improvement of 1.6 absolute percentages on mean average recall@1
