AbstractEcological migration is an important policy for sustainable ecosystem management, which usually relocates a large number of residents from their traditional living regions with high ecological sensitivity to other areas with low ecological sensitivity as part of the government's initiative to restore and recover seriously degraded ecosystems. Evaluation of ecological migrants’ adaptation to their new living area is essential for assessing the success of migration and directing the design and implementation of measures to improve the effectiveness of migration. In this research, the adaptation of ecological migrants to their new living area was investigated and analyzed in Three-River Headwater region, a typical and significant migration area in China. The questionnaire survey method was applied. Three many issues related to migrants’ adaptation were discussed, namely the determination of suitable migration population size, the choice of follow-up industry and the integration issue in ecological migration. The result indicated that the majority of migrants could adapt to their new living places and could live with a better life standard. In spite of this, the unsuitability for new work was the major problem for the ecological migration with 72% people unable for their new work

Measuring the influence of concept detection on video retrieval

    Get PDF
There is an increasing emphasis on including semantic concept detection as part of video retrieval. This represents a modality for retrieval quite different from metadata-based and keyframe similarity-based approaches. One of the premises on which the success of this is based, is that good quality detection is available in order to guarantee retrieval quality. But how good does the feature detection actually need to be? Is it possible to achieve good retrieval quality, even with poor quality concept detection and if so then what is the 'tipping point' below which detection accuracy proves not to be beneficial? In this paper we explore this question using a collection of rushes video where we artificially vary the quality of detection of semantic features and we study the impact on the resulting retrieval. Our results show that the impact of improving or degrading performance of concept detectors is not directly reflected as retrieval performance and this raises interesting questions about how accurate concept detection really needs to be

Combination of cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor and doxorubicin increases the growth inhibition and apoptosis in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells

    No full text
Inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 elicits therapeutic effects in solid tumors that are coupled with the inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis in tumor cells. Aim: This study was designed to investigate the role of COX-2 inhibitor nimesulide in cell growth and apoptosis of the cultured human hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 cells. Methods: We performed the MTT assay, flow cytometric analysis and cell morphology study to evaluate growth inhibition and cell apoptosis upon the action of nimesulide alone or along with doxorubicin, a common agent for the treatment of human hepatocellular carcinoma. Results: Our results showed that the treatment of HepG2 cells with more than 50 µM of nimesulide suppressed COX-2 enzyme activity because of reduced PGE2 production, and then induced growth inhibition and cell apoptosis despite no alterations of COX-2 protein expression. Importantly, the combination of 50 µM or 100 µM of nimesulide and low concentrations (5 µM to 20 µM) of doxorubicin resulted in enhanced cell growth inhibition, apoptosis induction and reduced VEGF production. Conclusion: These data suggest synergistic and/or additive effects of COX-2 inhibitors and chemotherapeutic agents, and may provide the rational for clinical studies of COX-2 inhibitors on the treatment or chemoprevention of human hepatocellular carcinoma.

    Re-evaluation of Sympoventuriaceae

Sympoventuriaceae (Venturiales, Dothideomycetes) comprises genera including saprophytes, endo-phytes, plant pathogens, as well as important animal or human opportunistic pathogens with diverse ecologies and wide geographical distributions. Although the taxonomy of Sympoventuriaceae has been well studied, generic boundaries within the family remain poorly resolved due to the lack of type materials and molecular data. To address this issue and establish a more stable and reliable classification system in Sympoventuriaceae, we performed multi-locus phylogenetic analyses using sequence data of seven genes (SSU, ITS, LSU, act1, tub2, tef1 and rpb2) with increased taxon sampling and morphological analysis. The molecular data combined with detailed morphological studies of 143 taxa resolved 22 genera within the family, including one new genus, eight new species, five new combinations and one new name. Finally, we further investigated the evolutionary history of Sympoventuriaceae by reconstructing patterns of lifestyle diversification, indicating the ancestral state to be saprophytic, with transitions to endophytic, animal or human opportunistic and plant pathogens

We present a simple and compact design for an all-solid-state laser amplifier system which can output 9.43-kHz 630-ps, 3.5-W pulse trains under 20W absorbed pumping power. The excellent matching between the repetition of its seed source and the fluorescence lifetime of the amplifying medium makes it quiet efficient for the four-pass amplifier to be pumped in cw mode without need of any synchronization device between the oscillator and the amplifier. The entire setup just covers an area of 55x25cm2. The output average power fluctuation is less than +/- 1.5% within 10min and 3% within 6h

Green’s function method to the ground state properties of a two-component Bose–Einstein condensate

    No full text
The elementary excitation spectrum of a two-component Bose–Einstein condensate is obtained by Green’s function method. It is found to have two branches. In the long-wave limit, the two branches of the excitation spectrum are reduced to one phonon excitation and one single-particle excitation. With the obtained excitation spectrum and the Green’s functions, the depletion of the condensate and the ground state energy have also been calculated in this paper

    Mn clusterisation in Ga1-xMnxN

Local structure of Mn atoms in Ga1-xMnxN has been investigated by the Mn L3 edge x-ray absorption spectrum (XAS) at total electron yield mode, which preferentially looks at atoms near the surface. A modeling defects configuration, the Mn5 micro-clusters complexed with substitutional MnGa and interstitial MnI is found for the higher Mn doping concentration. This new configuration is also confirmed by the total energy calculations.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures, to be published in Solid. State Commu

Difference in the running biomechanics between preschoolers and adults

    Get PDF
Background: High vertical loading rate is associated with a variety of running-related musculoskeletal injuries. There is evidence supporting that non-rearfoot footstrike pattern, greater cadence, and shorter stride length may reduce the vertical loading rate. These features appear to be common among preschoolers, who seem to experience lower running injury incidence, leading to a debate whether adults should accordingly modify their running form. Objective: This study sought to compare the running biomechanics between preschoolers and adults. Methods: Ten preschoolers (4.2 ± 1.6 years) and ten adults (35.1 ± 9.5 years) were recruited Q3 and ran overground with their usual shoes at a self-selected speed. Vertical average (VALR) and vertical instantaneous loading rate (VILR) were calculated based on the kinetic data. Footstrike pattern and spatiotemporal parameters were collected using a motion capture system. Results: There was no difference in normalized VALR (p = 0.48), VILR (p = 0.48), running speed (p = 0.85), and footstrike pattern (p = 0.29) between the two groups. Preschoolers demonstrated greater cadence (p < 0.001) and shorter normalized stride length (p = 0.01). Conclusion: By comparing the kinetic and kinematic parameters between children and adults, our findings do not support the notion that adults should modify their running biomechanics according to the running characteristics in preschoolers for a lower injury risk. © 2020 Associac¸ao˜ Brasileira de Pesquisa e Pos-Graduac¸ ´ ao˜ em Fisioterapia. Revisiting the Bs()B^{(*)}_s-Meson Production at the Hadronic Colliders

The production of heavy-flavored hadron at the hadronic colliders provides a challenging opportunity to test the validity of pQCD predictions. There are two mechanisms for the Bs()B^{(*)}_s hadroproduction, i.e. the gluon-gluon fusion mechanism via the subprocess g+gBs()+b+sˉg+g\rightarrow B^{(*)}_s+b+\bar{s} and the extrinsic heavy quark mechanism via the subprocesses g+bˉBs()+sˉg+\bar{b}\to B^{(*)}_s +\bar{s} and g+sBs()+bg+s\to B^{(*)}_s +b, both of which shall have sizable contributions in proper kinematic region. Different from the fixed-flavor-number scheme (FFNS) previously adopted in the literature, we study the Bs()B^{(*)}_s hadroproduction under the general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme (GM-VFNS), in which we can consistently deal with the double counting problem from the above two mechanisms. Properties for the Bs()B^{(*)}_s hadroproduction are discussed. To be useful reference, a comparative study of FFNS and GM-VFNS is presented. Both of which can provide reasonable estimations for the Bs()B^{(*)}_s hadroproduction. At the Tevatron, the difference between these two schemes is small, however such difference is obvious at the LHC. The forthcoming more precise data on LHC shall provide a good chance to check which scheme is more appropriate to deal with the Bs()B^{(*)}_s-meson production and to further study the heavy quark components in hadrons.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures, 4 tables.
