āThe door has openedā: moving forward with menstrual health programming in Bangladesh
Purpose In Bangladesh, as elsewhere, menstruation is surrounded by stigma, silence, and shame. Despite being a critical part of womenās and girlsā sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), it remains significantly under-researched and addressed. However, the focus on menstrual health (MH) programming is growing globally, with increased awareness of the importance of holistic and rights-based approaches. This case-study examines and reflects upon the MH landscape and programming in Bangladesh, assessing the progress, challenges, and potential ways forward. Design This case study is based on a non-systematic review of recent global and national literature, eight semi-structured interviews, a review of national television adverts, and the authorsā experiences of MH research and programming in Bangladesh. Findings Hygiene-based education delivered through schools is a common entry point for MH programming in Bangladesh, with limited activities conducted in communities (including with men and boys) and through media. The focus of MH programming has tended to be narrow, with insufficient recognition of the wider gender equality and health implications of menstruation. There are growing efforts to coordinate MH work by different agencies and to collectively advocate for increased government engagement. While significant progress has been made, this case study identifies several gaps and tensions that reflect the complexity of addressing MH. Originality This case study presents an overview of recent MH experiences and programming in Bangladesh. It recognises the different sectors, sites and stakeholders involved, and includes experiences and perspectives of practitioners, academics, and programme participants
Some remarks on the visible points of a lattice
We comment on the set of visible points of a lattice and its Fourier
transform, thus continuing and generalizing previous work by Schroeder and
Mosseri. A closed formula in terms of Dirichlet series is obtained for the
Bragg part of the Fourier transform. We compare this calculation with the
outcome of an optical Fourier transform of the visible points of the 2D square

Faces capture attention: Evidence from Inhibition-of-return
The human face is a visual pattern of great social and biological importance. While previous studies have shown that attention may be preferentially directed and engaged longer by faces, the current study presents a new methodology to test the notion that faces can capture attention. The present study uses the occurrence of inhibition of return (IOR) as a diagnostic tool to determine the allocation of attention in visual space. Because previous research suggested that IOR at a location in space only occurs after attention has been reflexively moved to that location, the current finding of IOR at the location of the face provides converging support for the claim that faces do have the ability to summon attention. Output coupling of a Bose-Einstein condensate formed in a TOP trap
Two distinct mechanisms are investigated for transferring a pure 87Rb
Bose-Einstein condensate in the F = 2, mF = 2 state into a mixture of
condensates in all the mF states within the F = 2 manifold. Some of these
condensates remain trapped whilst others are output coupled in the form of an
elementary pulsed atom laser. Here we present details of the condensate
preparation and results of the two condensate output coupling schemes. The
first scheme is a radio frequency technique which allows controllable transfer
into available mF states, and the second makes use of Majorana spin flips to

Propagation of HF radio waves over northerly paths: measurements,simulation and systems aspects
Large deviations in the direction of arrival of ionospherically propagating radio signals from the Great Circle Path (GCP) have serious implications for the planning and operation of communications
and radiolocation systems operating within the HF-band. Very large deviations are particularly prevalent in the polar and sub-auroral regions where signals often arrive at the receiver with bearings displaced
from the great circle direction by up to Ā±100Ā° or more. Measurements made over several paths are presented in this paper, and the principle causes of off-great circle propagation outlined. Significant
progress has been made in modelling the propagation effects and work is now in hand to incorporate the results into tools to aid the planning and operation of HF radio systems operating at northerly latitudes
Near real-time input to a propagation model for nowcasting of HF communications with aircraft on polar routes
There is a need for improved techniques for nowcasting and forecasting (over several hours) HF propagation at northerly latitudes to support airlines operating over the increasingly popular trans-polar routes. In this paper the assimilation of real-time measurements into a propagation model developed by the authors is described, including ionosonde measurements and Total Electron Content (TEC) measurements to define the main parameters of the ionosphere. The effects of D-region absorption in the polar cap and auroral regions are integrated with the model through satellite measurements of the flux of energetic solar protons (>1āMeV) and the X-ray flux in the 0.1-0.8ānm band, and ground-based magnetometer measurements which form the Kp and Dst indices of geomagnetic activity. The model incorporates various features (e.g. convecting patches of enhanced plasma density) of the polar ionosphere that are, in particular, responsible for off-great circle propagation and lead to propagation at times and frequencies not expected from on-great circle propagation alone. The model development is supported by the collection of HF propagation measurements over several paths within the polar cap, crossing the auroral oval, and along the mid-latitude trough

Aspects of HF radio propagation
The propagation characteristics of radio signals are important parameters to consider when designing and operating radio systems. From the point of view Working Group 2 of the COST 296 Action, interest lies with effects associated with propagation via the ionosphere of signals within the HF band. Several aspects are covered in this paper:
a) The directions of arrival and times of flight of signals received over a path oriented along the trough have been examined and several types of propagation effects identified. Of particular note, combining the HF observations with satellite measurements has identified the presence of irregularities within the floor of the trough that result in propagation displaced from the great circle direction. An understanding of the propagation effects that
result in deviations of the signal path from the great circle direction are of particular relevance to the operation of HF radiolocation systems.
b) Inclusion of the results from the above mentioned measurements into a propagation model of the northerly ionosphere (i.e. those regions of the ionosphere located poleward of, and including, the mid-latitude trough)and the use of this model to predict the coverage expected from transmitters where the signals impinge on the northerly ionosphere.
c) Development of inversion techniques enabling backscatter ionograms obtained by an HF radar to be used to estimate the ionospheric electron density profile. This development facilitates the operation of over the horizon HF radars by enhancing the frequency management aspects of the systems.
d) Various propagation prediction techniques have been tested against measurements made over the trough path mentioned above, and also over a long-range path between Cyprus and the UK.
e) The effect of changes in the levels of ionospheric disturbances on the operational availability at various data throughput rates has been examined for the trough path mentioned earlier.
