    ABSTRAK The aims of this research were to obtain the rating curve and the relationship between the stream discharge with rainfall, landuse and rivers\u27 characteristics and to obtain the rivers stream discharge equations. The data were analysed using Stepwise Regression and the results showed that: (1) 28 percent of existing forest in the river catchment caused a continuous river stream discharge in one year, (2) if the sornnh cover 11,5 percent of the river catchment will decrease the fluctuation of stream discharge, and (3) major factors of the rainfall, landuse and rivers\u27 characteristics that influenced the river catchment stream discharge were settlement, river slope, catchment area, rainfall and dry crops area.     Mycophytoextraction of Mercury from Small-Scale Gold Mine Tailings Contaminating Agricultural Land and Its Effect on Maize Growth

    An experiments aimed to explore the effects of mycorrhizae inoculation on the potential of local plant species (Paspalum conjugatum, Cyperus kyllingia, and Lindernia crustacea) for phytoextraction of mercury from small-scale gold mine tailings contaminating agricultural land has been conducted in a glasshouse.  The first experiment was set up as three plant species, and doses of mycorrhizal inoculation, i.e. 0 and 30 spores/plant. At harvest of 63 days, shoots and roots were analyzed for mercury concentration, consisted of 6 treatments (PcM0; PcM1; CkM0; CkM1; LcM0; LcM1), and the second experiment  using the remediated soils of the first trials consisted of treatments (six treatments previous and one control) were used for growing maize 84 days. Each of the plant seedlings was planted in a plastic pot containing 10 kg of tailing and compost mixture. The results showed that Glomus was the most compatible mycorrhizae against the three types of host plants studied. Mycorrhizal inoculation significantly affected plant growth and biomass weight of three plant species. The highest Hg accumulation (56.3 mg/kg) was observed in the shoot of PcM1. Overall, the tested three plant species could be used for phytoextration of mercury from small-scale gold mine tailings contaminating agricultural land, but its interactions with mycorrhizae did not significantly affect the accumulation of mercury.     Perilaku Mengelolaan Agroindustri di DAS Brantas

    Agroindustri di wilayah DAS Brantas merupakan salah satu bidang kegiatan yang sangat berperan dalam peningkatan pendapatan daerah dan kesejahteraan masyarakat, sehingga perlu terus dikembangkan. Oleh karena itu perlu dipahami faktor yang berperan dalam menunjang atau kendala pengembangan agroindustri. Penelitian ini membahas perilaku para pengelola agroindustri di DAS Brantas dengan tujuan untuk memahami faktor yang mendukung ataupun kendala dalam pengelolaan agroindustri. Penelitian dilakukan di DAS Brantas Hulu yang meliputi wilayah kota Batu, kota Malang, dan sebagian Kabupaten Malang. Sebagai responden adalah para pelaku agroindustri dengan pengambilan sampel purposive. Sampel yang diambil mewakili agroindustri yang berkembang dan agroindustri yang kurang berkembang, masing-masing 15 sampel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa agroindustri yang berkembang karena pengelolanya mempunyai: (i) semangat yang tinggi dan pantang menyerah, (ii) selalu berinovasi, (iii) berkeinginan untuk terus meningkatakan kemampuan dan ketrampilan, (iv) selalu berusaha untuk mendapatkan informasi yang berhubungan dengan agroinustri yang dikelolanya. Kemampuan managerial memang menjadi salah satu faktor yang mendorong berkembangnya agroindustri yang dikelolanya, tetapi hal ini dapat dipelajari sambil berjalan. Faktor yang menjadi pendorong dan sekaligus berkembangnya agrorindustri di wilayah DAS Brantas adalah: (i) ketersediaan bahan baku secara kontinyu, (ii) akses pasar, dan (iii) akses modal. Peran pemerintah sangat penting dalam pengembangan agroindustri, terutama dalam penciptaan iklim usaha yang kondusif, bimbingan serta pelatihan

    Peer Review Biochar as a Carrier for Nitrogen Plant Nutrition: The Release of Nitrogen from Biochar Enriched with Ammonium Sulfate and Nitrate Acid

    An experiment was conducted to study the characteristics and stability of biochar enriched with ammonium sulfate and nitrate acid. Two feedstuffs of biochar (namely poultry litter and corn-cobs) were enriched with ammonium sulfate and nitrate acid. To investigate the release of nitrogen from the enriched biochar, a lysimeter study was carried out.. The results showed that either ammonium sulfate or nitratr acid was good enough to be used as the materials for enriching biochar. However, ammonium sulfate yielded a relative better enriched biochar compared to the nitrate acid enriched biochar. Nitrogen in ammonium enriched biochar was relatively more stable compared to that of nitrogen in nitrate enriched biochar. Until 120 days of incubation, nitrogen content in a soil applied with ammonium enriched biochar made from corn-cobs was 0,13 %, 0.15 %, and 0.14 % for acid, neutral and calcareous soil respectively. These were higher compared to nitrogen content applied with the same biochar feedstuffs enriched with nitrate, i.e.: 0.012 %; 0.11%; and 0.11 % in acid, neutral and calcareous soil. Biochar with diameter size of less than 0.5 mm was good enough used for enrichment
