List Size, Standards and Perfromance in General Practice - A Pilot Study in the South East Thames Region
This is a report of a piolt study carried out among 155 general practitioner trainers in South East Thames region. Similar pilot studies have been carried out among trainers in four other regions on England. Separate reports have been prepared for each of the five regions, together with a summary report comparing the findings among the regions. The pilot studies were funded by the DHSS and carried out by staff of the Health Services Research Unit at the University of Kent at Camterbury
Single-color two-photon spectroscopy of Rydberg states in electric fields
Rydberg states of atomic helium with principal quantum numbers ranging from
n=20 to n=100 have been prepared by non-resonance-enhanced single-color
two-photon excitation from the metastable 2 {^3}S{_1} state. Photoexcitation
was carried out using linearly and circularly polarized pulsed laser radiation.
In the case of excitation with circularly polarized radiation, Rydberg states
with azimuthal quantum number |m_{\ell}|=2 were prepared in zero electric
field, and in homogeneous electric fields oriented parallel to the propagation
axis of the laser radiation. In sufficiently strong electric fields, individual
Rydberg-Stark states were resolved spectroscopically, highlighting the
suitability of non-resonance-enhanced multiphoton excitation schemes for the
preparation of long-lived high-|m_{\ell}| hydrogenic Rydberg states for
deceleration and trapping experiments. Applications of similar schemes for
Doppler-free excitation of positronium atoms to Rydberg states are also
discussed

Cryptocurrencies Are Taxable and Not Free From Fraud
In this report, the authors discuss cryptocurrencies — especially bitcoin — and argue that because the IRS lists them as property, they are taxable, and because they are not as anonymous as once thought, they are not free from fraud.
Cryptocurrencies are digital assets used as a medium of exchange, but they are not really coins. They can be sent electronically from one entity to another almost anywhere in the world with an internet connection. There are many cryptocurrencies in the market, including bitcoin, ethereum, ethereum classic, litecoin, nem, dash, iota, bitshares, monero, neo, and ripple. Many of the cryptocurrency networks are not controlled by a single entity or company; instead, a decentralized network of computers keeps track of the currency using a token ID. A ledger maintains a continuously growing list of date stamped transactions in real time called “blocks.” This technology is known as blockchain, which records, verifies, and stores transactions without a trusted central authority. The network instead relies on decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) with uncertain legal standing
A Phenomenological Study of Lived Experiences of Transport Nurses Experiencing Patient Death
Experiencing a patient death can directly affect the well-being of health care professionals; however, this phenomenon and the effects of patients\u27 deaths are not well understood in the transport setting. Transport nurses work in unique settings with complex patients and significant autonomy in determining the plan of care; therefore, the experiences of other health care professionals may not be applicable in this environment. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the lived experiences of transport nurses who have experienced patient death using Husserl\u27s life-world and phenomenological philosophies as a theoretical framework. Semistructured interviews were completed with 8 transport nurses who had experienced a patient death in their care using video-conferencing and verbatim transcription of the interviews. Data analysis was manually coded and categorized into themes based on Moustaka\u27s modification of the Van Kaam methods of analysis of phenomenological data. Key findings included 5 themes. Findings from this study indicate that patient death, particularly unexpected death, takes an emotional toll on transport nurses. Most transport nurses indicated that they did not have formal debriefing or support from the transport program following patient death. Transport nurses relied on their partners for feedback and support following patient death. Recommendations based on this research include promoting education regarding the psychosocial effects of death in the transport environment and formal debriefing following an unexpected death. Results from this study can be used to promote positive social change by improving the experiences of transport providers following a patient death, which may lead to improved retention and nurse satisfaction
