    Potential small wind energy conversion (SWECS) design problems were identified to improve product quality and reliability. Mass produced components such as gearboxes, generators, bearings, etc., are generally reliable due to their widespread uniform use in other industries. The likelihood of failure increases, though, in the interfacing of these components and in SWECS components designed for a specific system use. Problems relating to the structural integrity of such components are discussed and analyzed with techniques currently used in quality assurance programs in other manufacturing industries

    Introduction of Alien Tree Species and its Influence on Floristical Composition and Vegetation Structure of Acidophilous Oak Forests: The Experimental Plots in the Zielonka Forest

    In 1879 Schwappach first established 54 experimental forest plots on habitat of acidophilous oak forest Calamagrostio-Quercetum in the Zielonka Forest near Poznań, on which 20 exotic tree species were cultivated. Until this day 32 of the mentioned forest sites have been preserved and today only 9 species are present there. The aim of the study was to determine actual condition of the experimental plots, a description of their flora and vegetation, as well as a comparison with other test plots situated in the direct neighbourhood. Basing on 63 phytosociological relevés, an influence of exotic species plantings on the structure of vegetation and local biodiversity was assessed. Floristic richness of both experimental plots (88 species), as well as their direct neighbourhood (68) was recognised, along with the geographical-historical groups spectrum and species affiliation to phytosociological classes

    Using Popular Music to Engage the Multiculturally Diverse Secondary School Band

    Despite the increasing acceptance and enthusiasm for multicultural popular music in some high schools in the United States, traditional music teachers are often hesitant to embrace this trend. Even though the United States is responsible for creating many popular music styles, European music education philosophy is ahead with popular music education. Because of the United States\u27 changing demographics, a new strategy must be developed to address this issue and implement it to the band director\u27s advantage. Ethnic diversity and multiculturism have been creative factors in the United States, which explains why American culture has produced a wide variety of musical styles such as rock, jazz, blues, gospel, praise and worship music, rock, soul, hip-hop, bluegrass, and country. Most of these genres can be categorized as popular music, although there is debate about which styles should be included. With the increasing acceptance and enthusiasm of popular music in secondary schools across much of the United States, and because of the expanding diversity in ethnicity and multiculturalism, there is a need to assimilate these elements into a unified educational model. This does not mean that traditional music programs should be abandoned, or that classical music is less critical. This hermeneutic phenomenological study aimed to discover the effects of implementing a popular music repertoire to engage the multiculturally diverse secondary school band and to study how band directors oriented in traditional music can prepare themselves for this implementation

    Development of a one dimensional subsurface contaminant transport model with stochastic applications

    Contaminant source release history is a necessary element of contaminant mass transport simulation in the saturated zone. The source release history is unknown at many sites, and many inverse models have been developed to define finite release histories. To define a likely domain of three source history parameters, a mass balancebased one dimensional approach is developed and tested by discretizing the spatial domain into bands. By incorporating the approach in a spreadsheet model, observed data is represented by both variable length and constant length bands of analysis. Each representation of observed data was tested to determine the most appropriate band geometry for improved model calibration and constant length bands results were more accurate than results of variable length bands. The source history parameter domains predicted by the model are then evaluated with Monte Carlo analysis. After datasets of artificial transport systems are developed and evaluated with the model, actual site data from a Superfund site is input to the model that provides reasonable results of the source history parameters.
