High Performance Liquid Chromatography of Molecular Species from Free Sterols and Sterylglycosides Isolated from Oat Leaves and Seeds

Free sterols and sterylglycosides (SG) from oat leaves and seeds were isolated by conventional thin layer chromatography (TLC) and subjected to high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for resolution of molecular species. Acylsterylglycosides, isolated by TLC, were converted to SG by mild alkaline hydrolysis and determined as SG. Sterols and SG were injected onto the column without any chemical treatment and the separated species were detected at 200 nm. The separation of SG-species follows exactly the separation of free sterols. Though gas liquid chromatography still is the method of choice, advantages of HPLC is to analyse directly the SG-species without hydrolysis and derivatization as compared to GLC. After TLC the sterol- and the SG-fraction are injected directly onto the column. This is extremely important for labile sterylglycosides or sterols, as demonstrated for the avenasterol

The mutable nature of particle-core excitations with spin in the one-valence-proton nucleus ¹³³Sb

The γ-ray decay of excited states of the one-valence-proton nucleus ¹³³Sb has been studied using cold-neutron induced fission of ²³⁵U and ²⁴¹Pu targets, during the EXILL campaign at the ILL reactor in Grenoble. By using a highly efficient HPGe array, coincidences between γ-rays prompt with the fission event and those delayed up to several tens of microseconds were investigated, allowing to observe, for the first time, high-spin excited states above the 16.6 μs isomer. Lifetimes analysis, performed by fast-timing techniques with LaBr₃(Ce) scintillators, revealed a difference of almost two orders of magnitude in B(M1) strength for transitions between positive-parity medium-spin yrast states. The data are interpreted by a newly developed microscopic model which takes into account couplings between core excitations (both collective and non-collective) of the doubly magic nucleus ¹³²Sn and the valence proton, using the Skyrme effective interaction in a consistent way. The results point to a fast change in the nature of particle-core excitations with increasing spin

Trap-assisted studies of odd, neutron-rich isotopes from Tc to Pd

    No full text
We review the present and future of trap-assisted structure studies of odd, neutron-rich Tc, Ru, Rh and Pd isotopes at the limits of present experimental techniques. These nuclei of refractory elements are produced in light-particle induced fission and filtered by their mass number with the IGISOL mass separator. Further mass separation with the JYFLTRAP Penning trap system provides a clean, monoisotopic beam perfectly suited for precise nuclear spectroscopy. Connecting the IGISOL and the JYFLTRAP facilities to the recently installed MCC30/15 cyclotron opens new prospects for post-trap spectroscopy of very exotic, neutron-rich nuclei.peerReviewe

EXOGAM at the ILL: the EXILL campaign

International audienceRadiative capture reactions on rare targets and prompt spectroscopy of neutron-rich nuclei produced in the neutron-capture induced-fission of 235U and 241Pu have been performed at the Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL). The high efficiency germanium (Ge) EXOGAM array has been used, complemented with Ge detectors from GASP and the ILL. LaBr3 detectors from the FATIMA collaboration have also been coupled to EXOGAM to measure lifetimes of lowlying excited states. The measured characteristics indicate very good performances of the overall setup. Some recent results will be discussed
