Monopole Solutions of the Massive SU(2) Yang-Mills-Higgs Theory

Monopoles in topologically massive gauge theories in 2+1 dimensions with a Chern-Simon mass term have been studied by Pisarski some years ago. He investigated the SU(2) Yang-Mills-Higgs model with an additional Chern-Simon mass term in the action. Pisarski argued that there is a monopole solution that is regular everywhere, but found that it does not possess finite action. There were no exact or numerical solutions being presented by Pisarski. Hence it is our purpose to further investigate this solution in more detail. We obtained numerical regular solutions that smoothly interpolates between the behavior at small and large distances for different values of Chern-Simon term strength and for several fixed values of Higgs field strength.Comment: 10, pages, 5 figure

Sentiment analysis of hotel reviews in Singapore

    Get PDF
Tourism industry is one of the major industries in Singapore, attracting a total number of 17.4 million of international tourists in 2017. This industry is poised to grow further with a recorded total number of 18.5 million of international tourists visited Singapore in 2018, an increase of 6.2% compared to 2017 (www.stb.gov.sg, 2019). As hotel stay will be one of the major factors in tourist experience, we will examine the drivers of sentiments of online hotel reviews, overall sentiments towards hotels in Singapore and the useful insights and recommendations that hoteliers can adopt from existing sentiments of online hotel reviews. About 18943 online reviews were extracted from Tripadvisor.com and 1855 reviews were extracted from Hotels.com and text analytics were carried out using RapidMiner whereas sentiment analysis was carried out using Aylien text analytics. The research outcome indicated that customers sentiments are generally positive and key drivers influencing customer sentiments are service, food, location, room, facility, brand loyalty / image and price

Reading without meaning : the case of Cantonese developmental hyperlexia

    Get PDF
This study addressed the issue of whether oral reading of Chinese is mediated by semantics in children with hyperlexia. A Cantonese child with hyperlexia (C.C.H.), 19 chronological age-matched (CA), and 19 mental age-matched (MA) controls were assessed on their semantic knowledge and oral reading of words and characters. Despite having an underdeveloped lexical-semantic system, the oral reading scores of words and single characters of C.C.H. was comparable to his CA and MA controls. He showed better oral reading of the words he knew than those he did not and significantly poorer reading of bisyllabic words containing homographic heterophonic characters, of which correct pronunciation could only be disambiguated by the word context. Importantly, similar to his CA and MA peers, low-frequency, low-imageability and irregular characters, which required more semantic support for phonological retrieval, were named poorer during character reading. The observations support the Parallel Distributed Processing model of reading (PDP: Plaut, McLelland, Seidenberg, & Patterson, 1996), which argues that successful oral reading in Chinese hyperlexia is semantically associated.published_or_final_versionSpeech and Hearing SciencesBachelorBachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Science

Promoting social-emotional learning in Chinese schools : a feasibility study of PATHS implementation in Hong Kong

    Get PDF
This paper describes a pilot study of a reduced version of the PATHS Curriculum, a USdeveloped evidence-based SEL program, among schools in Hong Kong SAR (China). Three hundred and sixteen 12th grade students in three elementary schools participated in the study. A limited number of first grade PATHS lessons were adapted and translated into Chinese. Twelve teachers learned and adopted these lessons in their teaching. Students in these classrooms learned about different emotions and practiced self-control. The intervention lasted four months. After the intervention, students showed improvement in emotion understanding, emotion regulation and prosocial behavior. No change was observed in the level of children’s problem behaviors. Over 65% of the teachers reported a high degree of satisfaction and willingness to adopt the intervention. The effects of the intervention varied among schools, with variations in the level of intervention and principal support, but not in the quality of implementation. Discussion is focused on the factors that could shape the adoption and implementation of SEL programs, especially the role of the difference in school systems between Hong Kong and the United States.peer-reviewe

A framework for evaluating the performance of sustainable service supply chain management under uncertainty

    Get PDF
Developing and accessing a measure of sustainable service supply chain management (SSSCM) performance is currently a key challenge. The main contributions of this study are two-fold. First, this paper provides valuable support for SSSCM regarding the nature of network hierarchical relations with qualitative and quantitative scales. Second, this study indicates the practical implementation and enhances management effectiveness for SSSCM. The literature on SSSCM is very limited and performance measures need to have a systematic framework. The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate the SSSCM importance based on aspects i.e., environmentally conscious design, environmental service operations design and environmentally sustainable design. This paper developed a hierarchical network for SSSCM in a closed-loop hierarchical structure. A generalized quantitative evaluation model based on the Fuzzy Delphi Method and Analytical Network Process were then used to consider both the interdependence among measures and the fuzziness of subjective measures in SSSCM. The results indicate that the top-ranking aspect to consider is that of environmental service operation design, and the top criteria is reverse logistics integrated into service packag
