Measurements of Branching Ratios
Using data collected by the fixed target Fermilab experiment FOCUS, we
measure the branching ratios of the Cabibbo favored decays , , and relative to to be
, , and ,
respectively. We report the first observation of the Cabibbo suppressed decay
and we measure the branching ratio relative to
to be . We also set 90%
confidence level upper limits for and relative to to
be 0.12 and 0.05, respectively. We find an indication of the decays and and set
90% confidence level upper limits for the branching ratios with respect to
to be 0.12 and 1.72, respectively. Finally, we
determine the 90% C.L. upper limit for the resonant contribution relative to to be 0.10.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figure
Dalitz plot analysis of D_s+ and D+ decay to pi+pi-pi+ using the K-matrix formalism
FOCUS results from Dalitz plot analysis of D_s+ and D+ to pi+pi-pi+ are
presented. The K-matrix formalism is applied to charm decays for the first time
to fully exploit the already existing knowledge coming from the light-meson
spectroscopy experiments. In particular all the measured dynamics of the S-wave
pipi scattering, characterized by broad/overlapping resonances and large
non-resonant background, can be properly included. This paper studies the
extent to which the K-matrix approach is able to reproduce the observed Dalitz
plot and thus help us to understand the underlying dynamics. The results are
discussed, along with their possible implications on the controversial nature
of the sigma meson.Comment: To be submitted to Phys.Lett.B A misprint corrected in formula
Study of Hadronic Five-Body Decays of Charmed Mesons
We study the decay of D+ and Ds+ mesons into charged five body final states,
and report the discovery of the decay mode D+ -> K+K-Pi+Pi+Pi-, as well as
measurements of the decay modes D+ -> K-Pi+Pi+Pi+Pi-, Ds+ -> K+K-Pi+Pi+Pi-, Ds+
-> PhiPi+Pi+Pi- and D+/Ds+ -> Pi+Pi+Pi+Pi-Pi-. An analysis of the resonant
substructure is also included, with evidence suggesting that both decays
proceed primarily through an a1 vector resonance.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figure
Studies of correlations between D and mesons in high energy photoproduction
Studies of correlations for a large sample of events containing
fully and partially reconstructed pairs of charmed mesons recorded by the
Fermilab photoproduction experiment FOCUS (FNAL-E831) are presented.
Correlations between and mesons are used to study heavy quark
production dynamics. We present results for fully and partially reconstructed
charm pairs and comparisons to a recent version of \textsc{Pythia} with default
parameter settings. We also comment on the production of in our
data.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure
Search for Rare and Forbidden 3-body Di-muon Decays of the Charmed Mesons D+ and Ds+
Using a high statistics sample of photo-produced charm particles from the
FOCUS experiment at Fermilab, we report results of a search for eight rare and
Standard-Model-forbidden decays: D+, Ds+ > h+/- muon-/+ muon+ (with h=pion or
Kaon). Improvement over previous results by a factor of 1.7--14 is realized.
Our branching ratio upper limit D+ > pion+ muon- muon+ of 8.8E-6 at the 90%
C.L. is below the current MSSM R-Parity violating constraint.Comment: 17 pages, 7 figure file
Measurement of Masses and Widths of Excited Charm Mesons and Evidence for Broad States
Using data from the FOCUS experiment we analyze the and
invariant mass distributions. We measure the mass M_{D_2^{*0}} =
(2464.5 \pm 1.1 \pm 1.9) \mev and width \Gamma_{D_2^{*0}} = (38.7 \pm 5.3 \pm
2.9) \mev, and the mass M_{D_2^{*+}} = (2467.6 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.76)
\mev and width \Gamma_{D_2^{*+}} = (34.1 \pm 6.5 \pm 4.2) \mev. We find
evidence for broad structures over background in both the neutral and charged
final state. If each is interpreted as evidence for a single L=1,
excited charm meson resonance, the masses and widths are M_{1/2}^0 =(2407 \pm
21 \pm 35) \mev, \Gamma_{1/2}^0 = (240 \pm 55 \pm 59) \mev, and M_{1/2}^+ =
(2403 \pm 14 \pm 35) \mev \Gamma_{1/2}^+ = (283 \pm 24 \pm 34) \mev,
respectively.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures. Submitted to Phys. Lett. B. Added preprint

Charm System Tests of CPT and Lorentz Invariance with FOCUS
We have performed a search for CPT violation in neutral charm meson
oscillations. While flavor mixing in the charm sector is predicted to be small
by the Standard Model, it is still possible to investigate CPT violation
through a study of the proper time dependence of a CPT asymmetry in right-sign
decay rates for and \d0b\to K^+\pi^-. This asymmetry is
related to the CPT violating complex parameter and the mixing parameters
and : . Our 95% confidence
level limit is . Within the
framework of the Standard Model Extension incorporating general CPT violation,
we also find 95% confidence level limits for the expressions involving
coefficients of Lorentz violation of GeV, GeV, and GeV,
where is the factor which incorporates mixing parameters ,
and the doubly Cabibbo suppressed to Cabibbo favored relative strong phase

Study of the Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes D0-->Pi-pi+ and D0-->K-K+
Using data from the FOCUS (E831) experiment at Fermilab, we present a new
measurement for the branching ratios of the Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes
D0-->Pi-Pi+ and D0-->K-K+. We measured:
Gamma(D0-->K-K+)/Gamma(D0-->Pi-Pi+) = 2.81 +/- 0.10(stat) +/- 0.06(syst),
Gamma(D0-->K-K+)/Gamma(D0-->K-Pi+) = 0.0993 +/- 0.0014(stat) +/- 0.0014(syst),
and Gamma(D0-->Pi-Pi+)/Gamma(D0-->K-Pi+) = 0.0353 +/- 0.0012 (stat) +/-
0.0006(syst).
These values have been combined with other experimental data to extract the
ratios of isospin amplitudes and the phase shifts for the D-->KK and D-->PiPi
decay channels.Comment: 12 pages, 1 Figure, accepted for publication in Phys.Lett.

Study of the decay mode D^0 -> K-K-K+pi+
Using data from the FOCUS (E831) experiment at Fermilab, we present a new
measurement of the branching ratio for the Cabibbo-favored decay mode . From a sample of fully reconstructed events, we measure .
A coherent amplitude analysis has been performed to determine the resonant
substructure of this decay mode. This analysis reveals a dominant contribution
from and states.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, to be submitted to Physics Letters
