Abstract

Introduction

Pelvo-ureteric junction obstruction and duplex kidney are common radiological findings. However, pelvo-ureteric junction obstruction in a duplex kidney is a rare finding. We present the case of a patient who presented with septic complications secondary to this combination.

Case presentation

An adult woman presented with urinary sepsis, and her initial investigation with ultrasound revealed hydronephrosis of the lower moiety of a duplex kidney. Further investigations with computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed an associated intrarenal abscess and a pelvo-ureteric junction obstruction of the lower moiety of a duplex kidney.

Conclusion

This patient had a rare and unreported complication of an unusual congenital urological abnormality. This case report highlights the role of multiple imaging modalities in correct diagnosis for clinical management.</p

    A general mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem (MINLP) is formulated as follows: where z = (x, y) T โˆˆ Z; x โˆˆ Rv and y โˆˆ D w are, respectively, bounded continuous and discrete variables; f(z) is a lower-bounded objective function; g(z) = (g1(z),โ€ฆ, gr(z)) T is a vector of r inequality constraint functions; 2 and h(z) = (h1(z),โ€ฆ,hm(z)) T is a vector of m equality constrain

A tail-like assembly at the portal vertex in intact herpes simplex type-1 virions

Herpes viruses are prevalent and well characterized human pathogens. Despite extensive study, much remains to be learned about the structure of the genome packaging and release machinery in the capsids of these large and complex double-stranded DNA viruses. However, such machinery is well characterized in tailed bacteriophage, which share a common evolutionary origin with herpesvirus. In tailed bacteriophage, the genome exits from the virus particle through a portal and is transferred into the host cell by a complex apparatus (i.e. the tail) located at the portal vertex. Here we use electron cryo-tomography of human herpes simplex type-1 (HSV-1) virions to reveal a previously unsuspected feature at the portal vertex, which extends across the HSV-1 tegument layer to form a connection between the capsid and the viral membrane. The location of this assembly suggests that it plays a role in genome release into the nucleus and is also important for virion architecture

Research on Fern Diversity (Pteridophyta) In Bemban village In Mount Ambawang Protected Forest Kubu Kubu Raya District of West Kalimantan Province was held on September 16 th to October 7 th , 2013. Sampling plot was taken purposive where there were many fern found. There were four sampling plot based on height. Plot I located in 50-150 m above sea level altitude, plot II in 150-250 m above sea level altitude, plot III in 250-350 m above sea level altitude, and plot IV in 50-150 m above sea level altitude (rubber plantations). Each sampling plot 40 m x 40 m, divided into 160 subplot 2 m x 5 m aech. There were 13 fern species with 4162 individual these species consist of 8 terresterial fern with 3799 individual, and 5 epiphytic fern with 813 individuals. The plot at altitude of 50-150 m,were dominated by Lygodium circinatum and Asplenium nidus, altitude 150-250 m were dominated by Acrostichum spesiocum and Asplenium nidus, altitude 250-350 m dominated by Selaginella wildenowii, Asplenium longisimmum height of 50-150 m asl (rubber plantation) dominated by Nephrolepis biserrata and Asplenium nidus. The highest diversity index value was at altitude 150-250 m (2,043) which means the species diversity of ferns were low. Similarity index was highest between altitude 250-350 m and altitde 50-150 m in rubber plantation,in the value 5,638 %. It means between thw different plot there is no similarity (ยค 25 %). This study aims to determine the squirrel (Tupaiidae) species diversity in Hutan Lindung Gunung Semahung Paloan Village Sengah Temila Landak District. Using line method, with length 500 m and width 100 m, the plots were taken purposively where the Tupaiidae is found. Tupaiidae identification using Mammals Field Guide (Payne et al,.1985), and local people. There are 3 species of Tupaiidae found in Hutan Lindung Gunung Semahung Paloan Village namely: Tupaia minor, T.splendidula, T.gracilis, and total of 190 individuals. In the lowland area, there were 3 species of Tupaiidae were found (106 individuals), whereas in the hilly area 2 species were found (84 individuals), T.gracilis were not found in the hilly area. The Tupaiidae diversity in the area is low, showed by the diversity index below 1 (H=0,8950). Dominance index C=0,4383, means that more than one species of Tupaiidae are dominant in the area that is;T.minor and T.splendidula. Richness index D=1,5071. Evenness index is low (e=0.8146) means individuals of each species are not even, there are two dominant species (T.minor and T.splendidula), and the individuals of T.gracilis is low and only found in lowland area. Further observations are needed to obtain more comprehensive information about Tupaiidae. Keywords : Tupaiidae, species diversity, protection forest Mount Semahun
