Hate Crimes Against the Homeless: Warning-Out New England Style

This article reports on the hate crime victimization experienced by thirty individuals over the course of their homelessness in a New England city. Indepth interviews were conducted with the participants in order to provide a detailed, contextual account of the nature and forms of their hate crime victimization in public and semi-public spaces. Central to the article is the argument that hate crimes against homeless people function as informal social control mechanisms that impose spatial constraints, not unlike the character and objectives of the warning-out laws that were used to exclude homeless people from the public and private space of early New England communities

Geheizte elektrochemische Sensoren mit neuartigen Arbeitselektroden und Heizgeneratoren

Zum Zwecke der Optimierung geheizter elektrochemischer Sensoren zur Anwendung im Zuge eines selektiv heizbaren Mehrelektrodenarrays wurde die Auskopplung des Heizwechselstromes realisiert, eine Vergrößerung der elektrochemisch aktiven Oberfläche durch galvanische Oberflächenmodifikation erreicht und Simulationsrechnungen zur Temperaturentwicklung an miniaturisierten Elektroden durchgeführt. Eine Temperatur-Puls-Amperometrie wurde erfolgreich entwickelt. Vorversuche zur Markierung von RNA mit dem redoxaktiven Komplex [OsO4(bipy)] und anschließender Detektion waren erfolgreich.Concerning the optimization of heatable electrochemical sensors for developing a selectively heatable multi-electrode-array, the uncoupling of AC heat current was realized, an enhancement of electrochemically active surface with the help of galvanic modifications was reached and simulations of the temperature allocation at miniaturized electrodes were performed. Psychometric evaluation of WHOQOL-SRPB among brazilian adolescents

A number of studies point to the relationship between spirituality and religiosity with health and well-being. However, there are few instruments to evaluate these aspects among adolescents. The objective of this study was to verify the psychometric properties of the Spirituality, Religiousness and Personal Beliefs module, part of the World Health Organization's Quality of Life Instrument (WHOQOL-SRPB) by analyzing evidence of validity and reliability among Brazilian adolescents. The participants were 1,248 Brazilian adolescents, between 12 and 18 years of age (M = 15.09, SD = 1.77), 57.3% of whom were girls. Confirmatory factor analyses indicated that the eight-factor composition presents good fit indexes, and adequate reliability. Multi-group analyses indicated that there is factorial invariance by gender and age. It is concluded that the instrument presents evidence of validity and reliability with Brazilian adolescents. However, further studies are recommended especially considering the principal components analyses.Los estudios apuntan a una relación de la espiritualidad y la religiosidad con la salud y el bienestar. Todavía son escasos los instrumentos para evaluar esos aspectos entre adolescentes. El objetivo del estudio fue verificar las propiedades psicométricas del módulo de Espiritualidad, Religiosidad y Creencias Personales, parte del Instrumento de Calidad de vida de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (WHOQOL-SRPB), a través de evidencias de validez y de fidedignidad entre adolescentes brasileños. Participaron 1.248 adolescentes, entre 12 y 18 años (M = 15,09, DE = 1,77), 57,3% niñas. Los análisis factoriales confirmatorios indicaron que la composición de ocho factores tiene buenos índices de ajuste y análisis de confiabilidad adecuados. Los análisis multigrupo indicaron que existe invariancia factorial por sexo y edad. Se concluye que el instrumento presenta evidencias de validez y confiabilidad. Sin embargo, se recomiendan más estudios, especialmente considerando el análisis de los componentes principales.Estudos apontam a relação da espiritualidade e da religiosidade com a saúde e o bem-estar. Entretanto, são escassos os instrumentos para avaliação desses aspectos entre adolescentes. O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar as propriedades psicométricas do Módulo Espiritualidade, Religiosidade e Crenças Pessoais, integrante do Instrumento de Qualidade de Vida da Organização Mundial da Saúde (WHOQOL-SRPB), por meio da análise de evidências de validade e de fidedignidade entre adolescentes brasileiros. Der Nacktmull als ein Modellorganismus für Krebsresistenz - Bioinformatische Analysen

Bei Nacktmullen wurde bisher Tumorentstehung nicht beobachtet. Zur Untersuchung der molekularen Ursachen dient der Nacktmull daher als ein wertvoller Modellorganismus für Krebsresistenz. Ziel dieser Arbeit war eine weiterführende Analyse des kürzlich publizierten Genoms des Nacktmulls. Eine Genvorhersage konnte auf Grundlage der vorhandenden Genom- und Transkriptomdaten durchgeführt und ein hypothetisches Netzwerk der Interaktionen der tumorinduzierenden Faktoren erstellt werden. Dieses Netzwerk basiert auf den Tumorsuppressor-Regulationswegen p53 und RB im Menschen. Die Genom- und Transkriptom-Daten des Nacktmulls weisen deutliche Unterschiede zu den Befunden im Menschen auf. Dieser Befund könnte ein erster Anhaltspunkt für die Aufklärung der molekularen Ursachen der Krebsresistenz von Nacktmullen sein

"IECLB": caminhos de uma confessionalidade (diagnósticos e prognósticos)

A história confessional da IECLB é uma história a caminho. Durante toda a história pré-sinodal, sinodal (1886, 1905, 1911 e 1912) e como igreja unificada de caráter nacional (1949/1968), a confessionalidade foi tema de reflexão, atualização e contextualização. Isso pode ser percebido especialmente quando do surgimento das constituições/estatutos sinodais e da própria IECLB. Neles se nota que não se desejava uma restauração de um modelo confessional, mas uma confessionalidade que viesse ao encontro da origem de comunidades e pastores.La história confesional de la IECLB es una história a camino. Durante toda la historia pre-sinodal, sinodal (1886, 1905, 1911 y 1912) y como iglesia unificada de caracter nacional (1949/1968) la confesionalidad fue tema de reflexión, actualización y contextualización. Eso puede ser percibido especialmente a partir del surgimiento de las constituciones/estatutos sinodales y de la propia IECLB. En ellos se puede constatar que no se deseaba una restauración de un modelo confesional, y sí una confesionalidad que viniese al encuentro del origen de comunidades y pastores.The confessional history of the IECLB is a history in the making. Throughout its whole pre-synodical and synodical history (1886, 1905, 1911 and 1912) and throughout its history as a national unified church (1949/1968) the confessionality has been the theme of reflection, of updating and contextualiztion. This can be especially perceived when the constitutions/statutes of the synods and the IECLB itself were drawn up. One can notice in them that the desire was not for a restoration of the confessional model but for a confessionality that would correspond to the origin of the congregations and the pastors
