    Wirksamkeit eines spezifisch fĂŒr Zwangsstörungen entwickelten stationĂ€ren Gruppentherapiekonzepts bei gleichzeitiger Verhaltenstherapie und pharmakologischer Behandlung

    Purpose: The goal of this treatment trial was to investigate the efficacy of an inpatient group therapy program specifically designed for patients suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD, ICD 10, F 42). Methods: In the experimental group (EG; n = 14) the specific group therapy was carried out in addition to individual cognitive-behavioral therapy, the control group (KG; n = 16) received non-specific group therapy in mixed patient-groups in addition to individual therapy. 7 patients (EG = 3, KG = 4) received also Selective Serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Y-BOCS, BDI, and STAI-X1 were performed pre- and post-treatment. Furthermore therapists' ratings and self ratings were taken. Results: At post-treatment both groups showed significant improvement of the symptomatology. For the EG the Y-BOCS mean was reduced from 23.64 to 11.35, for the KG from 23.81 to 12.81. The group comparison showed no significant differences (alpha = 0.05) in clinical measurements, therapists' and self ratings. However, there were significantly more responders (improvement >50%, Y-BOCS) in the EG and treatment duration was shorter by 15 days. Conclusions: Clinical outcome in the EG was not superior. However, the specific group therapy for OCD contributes to an economic and effective treatment

    Power scaling of an extreme ultraviolet light source for future lithography

    For future lithography applications, high-power extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light sources are needed at a central wavelength of 13.5 nm within 2% bandwidth. We have demonstrated that from a physics point of view the Philips alpha-prototype source concept is scalable up to the power levels required for high-volume manufacturing (HVM) purposes. Scalability is shown both in frequency, up to 100 kHz, and pulse energy, up to 55 mJ collectable EUV per pulse, which allows us to find an optimal working point for future HVM sources within a wide parameter space.     Validity and reliability of the 2-minute walk test in individuals with spinal cord injury

    STUDY DESIGN Multicentre-observational study. OBJECTIVES The 6-minute walk test (6mWT) is an established assessment of walking function in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). However, walking 6 min can be demanding for severely impaired individuals. The 2-minute walk test (2mWT) could be an appropriate alternative that has already been validated in other neurological disorders. The aim of this study was to assess construct validity and test-rest reliability of the 2mWT in individuals with SCI. In addition, the influence of walking performance on sensitivity to change of the 2mWT was assessed. SETTING Swiss Paraplegic Center Nottwil, Switzerland; Balgrist University Hospital, ZĂŒrich, Switzerland. METHODS Fifty individuals (aged 18-79) with SCI (neurological level of injury: C1-L3, AIS: A-D) were assessed on two test days separated by 1 to 7 days. The first assessment consisted of a 2mWT familiarization, followed by a 2mWT and 10-meter walk test (10MWT) (including the Walking Index for Spinal Cord Injury (WISCI II)) in randomized order. The second assessment consisted of 2mWT and 6mWT in randomized order. Tests were separated by at least 30 min of rest. RESULTS The interclass correlation coefficient between the 2mWT assessed on the first and second test day was excellent (r = 0.980, p < 0.001). The 2mWT correlated very strongly with the 6mWT (r = 0.992, p < 0.001) and the 10MWT (r = 0.964, p < 0.001), and moderately with the WISCI II (r = 0.571, p < 0.001). Sensitivity to change was slightly affected by walking performance. CONCLUSION The 2mWT is a valid and reliable alternative to the 6mWT to measure walking function in individuals with SCI.     Harmonic Generation from Relativistic Plasma Surfaces in Ultra-Steep Plasma Density Gradients

    Harmonic generation in the limit of ultra-steep density gradients is studied experimentally. Observations demonstrate that while the efficient generation of high order harmonics from relativistic surfaces requires steep plasma density scale-lengths (Lp/λ<1L_p/\lambda < 1) the absolute efficiency of the harmonics declines for the steepest plasma density scale-length Lp→0L_p \to 0, thus demonstrating that near-steplike density gradients can be achieved for interactions using high-contrast high-intensity laser pulses. Absolute photon yields are obtained using a calibrated detection system. The efficiency of harmonics reflected from the laser driven plasma surface via the Relativistic Oscillating Mirror (ROM) was estimated to be in the range of 10^{-4} - 10^{-6} of the laser pulse energy for photon energies ranging from 20-40 eV, with the best results being obtained for an intermediate density scale-length

    Nicotine has gained the attention of the medical community due to its insidious addictive mechanisms which lead to chronic consumption. The multitude of compounds derived from tobacco smoke have local and systemic negative impacts, resulting in a large number of smoking-related pathologies. The present review offers insights into nicotine addiction physiopathology, as well as social and medical implications, with emphasis on its correlation with Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs). Therapeutic strategies and new approaches to nicotine assessment and cessation treatment are discussed, noting that such strategies could take into account the possibility of slow and gradual nicotine release from a device attached to a prosthetic piece, based on salivary nicotine-concentration feedback. This approach could offer real-time and home-based self-therapy monitoring by the physician and the patient for follow-up and improve long-term cessation treatment success- Graphical abstract

    Stripe-Like hBN Monolayer Template for Self-Assembly and Alignment of Pentacene Molecules

    Metallic surfaces with unidirectional anisotropy are often used to guide the self-assembly of organic molecules along a particular direction. Such supports thus offer an avenue for the fabrication of hybrid organic–metal interfaces with tailored morphology and precise elemental composition. Nonetheless, such control often comes at the expense of detrimental interfacial interactions that might quench the pristine properties of molecules. Here, hexagonal boron nitride grown on Ir(100) is introduced as a robust platform with several coexisting 1D stripe-like moiré superstructures that effectively guide unidirectional self-assemblies of pentacene molecules, concomitantly preserving their pristine electronic properties. In particular, highly-aligned longitudinal arrays of equally-oriented molecules are formed along two perpendicular directions, as demonstrated by comprehensive scanning tunneling microscopy and photoemission characterization performed at the local and non-local scale, respectively. The functionality of the template is demonstrated by photoemission tomography, a surface-averaging technique requiring a high degree of orientational order of the probed molecules. The successful identification of pentacene's pristine frontier orbitals underlines that the template induces excellent long-range molecular ordering via weak interactions, preventing charge transfer

    Proton probing of laser-driven EM pulses travelling in helical coils

    The ultrafast charge dynamics following the interaction of an ultra-intense laser pulse with a foil target leads to the launch of an ultra-short, intense electromagnetic (EM) pulse along a wire connected to the target. Due to the strong electric field (of the order of GV m−1\text{GV m}^{-1} ) associated to such laser-driven EM pulses, these can be exploited in a travelling-wave helical geometry for controlling and optimizing the parameters of laser accelerated proton beams. The propagation of the EM pulse along a helical path was studied by employing a proton probing technique. The pulse-carrying coil was probed along two orthogonal directions, transverse and parallel to the coil axis. The temporal profile of the pulse obtained from the transverse probing of the coil is in agreement with the previous measurements obtained in a planar geometry. The data obtained from the longitudinal probing of the coil shows a clear evidence of an energy dependent reduction of the proton beam divergence, which underpins the mechanism behind selective guiding of laser-driven ions by the helical coil targets.</jats:p
