Three-dimensional distribution of nonmenthane hydrocarbons and halocarbons over the northwestern Pacific during the 1991 Pacific Exploratory Mission (PEM-West A)
A total of 1667 whole air samples were collected onboard the NASA DC-8 aircraft during the 6-week Pacific Exploratory Mission over the western Pacific (PEM-West A) in September and October 1991. The samples were assayed for 15 C2-C7 hydrocarbons and six halocarbons. Latitudinal (0.5°S to 59.5°N) and longitudinal (114°E to 122°W) profiles were obtained from samples collected between ground level and 12.7 km. Thirteen of the 18 missions exhibited at least one vertical profile where the hydrocarbon mixing ratios increased with altitude. Longitude-latitude color patch plots at three altitude levels and three-dimensional color latitudealtitude and longitude-altitude contour plots exhibit a significant number of middle-upper tropospheric pollution events. These and several lower tropospheric pollution plumes were characterized by comparison with urban data from Tokyo and Hong Kong, as well as with natural gas and the products from incomplete combustion. Elevated levels of nonmethane hydrocarbons (NMHC) and other trace gases in the upper-middle free troposphere were attributed to deep convection over the Asian continent and to typhoon-driven convection near the western Pacific coast of Asia. In addition, NMHCs and CH3CCI3 were found to be useful tracers with which to distinguish hydrocarbon and halocarbon augmented plumes emitted from coastal Asian cities into the northwestern Pacific

Tribological performance of graphite-like carbon films with varied thickness
Graphite-like carbon (GLC) films with different thickness were deposited on 316 L stainless steel using closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering system to investigate the influence of film thickness on the microstructure, mechanical and tribological properties. The results showed that the surface of the deposited films exhibited granular-like morphology, and the sp2 content, surface roughness increase with the increase of film thickness, leading to the lower of hardness and higher of the internal stress. Both of the friction curves obtained by nano-tribological tests and fretting wear experiments revealed a three-stage evolution tendency with the same wear mechanism for the first two stages. The intermediate thick GLC film had the lowest specific wear rate, whilst the fretting fatigue life increased with film thickness

Ritt's theory on the unit disk
The aim of this paper is to revisit Ritt's theory from a topological perspective by extensively using the concept of fundamental groups. This enables us to regard the theory as an example which illustrates many ideas of a letter of Grothendieck and to put Ritt's theory into a more general analytic setting. In particular, Ritt's theory on the unit disk will be carefully developed and a special class of finite Blaschke products will be introduced as the counterpart of Chebyshev polynomials in Ritt's theory. These finite Blaschke products will be shown to be closely related to the elliptic rational functions, which are of great importance in the filter design theory.published_or_final_versio
Neuromodulatory effects of theta burst stimulation to the prefrontal cortex
Theta burst stimulation (TBS) is a new form of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) capable of non-invasively modulating cortical excitability. In recent years TBS has been increasingly used as a neuroscientific investigative tool and therapeutic intervention for psychiatric disorders, in which the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) is often the primary target. However, the neuromodulatory effects of TBS on prefrontal regions remain unclear. Here we share EEG and ECG recordings and structural MRI scans, including high-resolution DTI, from twenty-four healthy participants who received intermittent TBS (two sessions), continuous TBS (two sessions), and sham stimulation (one session) applied to the left DLPFC using a single-blinded crossover design. Each session includes eyes-open resting-state EEG and single-pulse TMS-EEG obtained before TBS and 2−, 15−, and 30-minutes post-stimulation. This dataset enables foundational basic science investigations into the neuromodulatory effects of TBS on the DLPFC
Promoting positive mental health among young construction workers: the role of theory
The post-modern approach to improving young peoples’ mental health emphasizes the need to promote positive mental health. However, research on young construction workers’ mental health has focused mainly on negative mental health, e.g. depression, suicidal ideation, and anxiety, and given far less attention to positive mental health. The aim of this research was to identify the reason for this trend and to propose an agenda for change. Based on the initial assumption that theory-use has contributed to this trend, we utilized the PICO and PRISMA-ScR frameworks to critically review the theoretical and conceptual models in published research on young construction workers’ mental health. Out of 367 articles retrieved, fourteen studies published between 2010 and 2023 qualified for inclusion. Eighteen different theories and frameworks were identified. Generally, studies focused on measuring the prevalence of symptoms of negative mental health. Theories and conceptual frameworks were mostly used to guide the identification of variables associated with negative mental health (e.g. age, workplace stressors, autonomy, etc.) and to explain the relationships among them. The identified theories and conceptual frameworks did not offer a positive conceptualisation of mental health, and as a result, no study theorized positive mental health. We offer a matrix for evaluating theory-use in research. We also identify and discuss the strengths and limitations of the current use of theory in published studies and provide recommendations on how theory-use can be improved to reorient construction research towards the promotion of positive mental health
