On the nonlinear dynamics of topological solitons in DNA
Dynamics of topological solitons describing open states in the DNA double
helix are studied in the frameworks of the model which takes into account
asymmetry of the helix. It is shown that three types of topological solitons
can occur in the DNA double chain. Interaction between the solitons, their
interactions with the chain inhomogeneities and stability of the solitons with
respect to thermal oscillations are investigated.Comment: 16 pages, 16 figure

A spitzer survey of deep drilling fields to be targeted by the Vera C. Rubin observatory legacy survey of space and time
The Vera C. Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) will observe several Deep Drilling Fields (DDFs) to a greater depth and with a more rapid cadence than the main survey. In this paper, we describe the 'DeepDrill' survey, which used the Spitzer Space Telescope Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) to observe three of the four currently defined DDFs in two bands, centred on 3.6 and 4.5 μm. These observations expand the area that was covered by an earlier set of observations in these three fields by the Spitzer Extragalactic Representative Volume Survey (SERVS). The combined DeepDrill and SERVS data cover the footprints of the LSST DDFs in the Extended Chandra Deep Field-South (ECDFS) field, the ELAIS-S1 field (ES1), and the XMM-Large-Scale Structure Survey field (XMM-LSS). The observations reach an approximate 5σ point-source depth of 2 μJy (corresponding to an AB magnitude of 23.1; sufficient to detect a 1011 M⊙ galaxy out to z ≈ 5) in each of the two bands over a total area of ≈ 29 deg2. The dual-band catalogues contain a total of 2.35 million sources
Structure and antiferroelectric properties of cesium niobate, Cs2Nb4O11
The compound cesium niobate, Cs2Nb4O11, is an antiferroelectric, as demonstrated by double hysteresis loops in the electric field versus polarization plot. The crystal structure refinement by X-ray diffraction at both 100 and 297 K shows it to have a centrosymmetric structure in point group mmm and orthorhombic space group Pima, which is consistent with its antiferroelectric behavior. The 100-K structure data is reported herein. The lattice is comprised of mobium-centered tetrahedra and octahedra connected through shared vertices and edges; cesium atoms occupy channels afforded by the three-dimensional polyhedral network. Antiferroelectricity is produced by antiparallel displacements of niobium atoms along the e-axis at the phase transition temperature of 165 degrees C. The critical field for onset of ferroelectric behavior in a single-crystal sample is 9.5 kV/cm at room temperature. (C) 2007 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved
[Cross-border healthcare: EU citizens as patients].
With the free movement of people within the European Union (EU), it occurs that EU citizens need healthcare in and different country, other than their country of origin. Identification of patients is important, and the EU is currently implementing a digital Patient Summary to provide physicians with essential information concerning an European patient. Physicians should be aware that the obligation concerning informed consent carries extra weight for patients with a language barrier. A professional interpreter can facilitate bridging this linguistic barrier. All patients who die within the Netherlands are subject to Dutch legislation on organ donation. The reimbursement of care is regulated within the EU by Regulations (No 883/2004 and No 987/2009) and the Directive on the application of patients' rights in cross-border healthcare. In principle, unplanned care is always reimbursed, whereas planned clinical care requires permission from the patient's health insurer
