    Get PDF
    In this paper we investigate the economic integration - industrial specialization nexus and unravel the relationship between trade and financial openness and industrial specialization. For a panel of 31 countries over the period 1970 to 2005, we find that trade integration relates negatively to specialization, while financial integration relates positively tospecialization. Furthermore, the relationship between trade (financial) integration and specialization is further deepened by the level of financial (trade) integration. Lastly, trade integration has a stronger connection to industrial specialization in countries with a high degree of intra-industry trade, whereas financial integration has a stronger connectionto specialization in countries with a relatively underdeveloped financial system. Our findings are robust to various measures and alternative model specifications.financial economics and financial management ;

Abstract—A scarifier mechanism with rotary tillage and antirotary grubbing is proposed for inducing the power of tillage in hardens soil. MAT147 material modal is amended by experimental method and soil high-speed cutting finite element modal is build through SPH method, further, the tools parameter of proposed mechanism and soil cutting speed are studied by FEA numerical simulation through orthogonal experiments method. Finally, the result shows that the proposed mechanism with proper structural parameters and work speeds can reduce the requirement of power of tillage and increase the working efficiency of small agricultural machinery

On the Benign One-Pot Preparation of Nanoporous Copper Thin Films with Bimodal Chan-nel Size Distributions by Chemical Dealloying in an Alkaline Solution

    Get PDF
Nanoporous copper (NPC) thin films with bimodal channel size distributions can be benignly fabricated by one-pot chemical dealloying of dual-phase Al 27 at Cu alloy with hypereutectic structure in the NaOH solution. The microstructure of these NPC thin films was characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis. The results show that these NPC thin films are composed of interconnected large-sized channels (100s of nm) with highly porous channel walls (10s of nm), in which large-sized channels resulting from entire dissolution of solid solution while small-sized those de-riving from part corrosion of intermetallics. Both large- and small-sized channels are 3D, open, and bicon-tinuous. When you are citing the document, use the following link http://essuir.sumdu.edu.ua/handle/123456789/3520

    Bondi-Sachs metrics and Photon Rockets

We study the Bondi-Sachs rockets with nonzero cosmological constant. We observe that the acceleration of the systems arises naturally in the asymptotic symmetries of (anti-) de Sitter spacetimes. Assuming the validity of the concepts of energy and mass previously introduced in asymptotically flat spacetimes, we find that the emission of pure radiation energy balances the loss of the Bondi mass in certain special families of the Bondi-Sachs rockets, so in these there is no gravitational radiation.Comment: 12 pages, to appear in General Relativity and Gravitatio

Morphology and Orientation Selection of Non-Metallic Inclusions in Electrified Molten Metal

    Get PDF
The effect of electric current on morphology and orientation selection of non-metallic inclusions in molten metal has been investigated using theoretical modelling and numerical calculation. Two geometric factors, namely the circularity (fc) and alignment ratio (fe) were introduced to describe the inclusions shape and configuration. Electric current free energy was calculated and the values were used to determine the thermodynamic preference between different microstructures. Electric current promotes the development of inclusion along the current direction by either expatiating directional growth or enhancing directional agglomeration. Reconfiguration of the inclusions to reduce the system electric resistance drives the phenomena. The morphology and orientation selection follows the routine to reduce electric free energy. The numerical results are in agreement with our experimental observations

A Smartphone App for Attentional Bias Retraining in Smokers: Mixed Methods Pilot Study

    Get PDF
Background: Smoking is a global health threat. Attentional bias influences smoking behaviors. Although attentional bias retraining has shown benefits and recent advances in technology suggest that attentional bias retraining can be delivered via smartphone apps, there is a paucity of research on this topic. Objective: This study aims to address this gap by exploring the use of attentional bias retraining via a novel smartphone app using a mixed methods pilot study. In the quantitative phase, it is hypothesized that participants in the training group who undertake attentional bias retraining via the app should have decreased levels of attentional bias, subjective craving, and smoking frequency, compared with those in the control group who do not undertake attentional bias retraining. The qualitative phase explores how the participants perceive and experience the novel app. Methods: In all, 10 adult smokers (3 females and 7 males) between the ages of 26 and 56 years (mean 34.4 years, SD 9.97 years) were recruited. The participants were randomly allocated to the training and control groups. In weeks 1 and 3, participants from both groups attempted the standard visual probe task and rated their smoking frequency and subjective craving. In week 2, the participants in the training group attempted the modified visual probe task. After week 3, participants from both groups were interviewed about their views and experiences of the novel app. Results: The results of the quantitative analysis did not support this study’s hypothesis. The qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results yielded 5 themes: ease, helpfulness, unhelpful aspects, barriers, and refinement. Conclusions: Findings from the qualitative study were consistent with those from previous studies on health-related smartphone apps. The qualitative results were helpful in understanding the user perspectives and experiences of the novel app, indicating that future research in this innovative area is necessary

M-learning refers to the learning that takes advantage of mobile technologies. Although research shows enhanced educational outcomes from m-learning in some Asian countries, the generalizability to postgraduate clinical psychology training in Singapore remains unclear. Current professional standards in clinical psychology training emphasize the importance of attainment of clinical competencies in trainees. Although learning theories indicated potential for m-learning to be incorporated into the local clinical psychology curriculum, trainees’ perspectives have not been adequately explored on m-learning. The study aimed to address this gap by exploring the use of m-learning via a novel smartphone application in clinical psychology training using mixed-methods design. Eight clinical psychology trainees between the ages of 26 to 43 years old (mean age of 31.75, SD = 5.49) enrolled in a relevant coursework subject were recruited. Participants were randomly allocated to the experimental and control groups. The experimental group accessed the novel application weekly, from week 1 to week 6, and participants in the control group accessed the application after week 6. Participants from both groups completed a brief demographic questionnaire, and the following scales New General Self-Efficacy Scale adapted for Education (NGSES-E) and self-reported scale of learning outcomes (SLO). The qualitative study explored how participants perceived and experienced the novel application. Participants from the experimental group were invited to provide open-ended responses about the novel application. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results from the qualitative analysis yielded four themes of: Convenience, preferred learning style, building confidence, and putting theory into practice. Findings from the qualitative study were consistent with previous studies about advantages of m-learning: That the e-platform was convenient, the learning style was engaging, which helped to build confidence, and facilitate practical learning of skills. The qualitative results were helpful in understanding the users’ perspectives and experience of the novel application, indicating that future research in this innovative area is necessary. However, the quantitative outcomes were not significant, limitations would be discussed, and recommendations made for future research

Example-based Image Recoloring in Indoor Environment

Color structure of a home scene image closely relates to the material properties of its local regions. Existing color migration methods typically fail to fully infer the correlation between the coloring of local home scene regions, leading to a local blur problem. In this paper, we propose a color migration framework for home scene images. It picks the coloring from a template image and transforms such coloring to a home scene image through a simple interaction. Our framework comprises three main parts. First, we carry out an interactive segmentation to divide an image into local regions and extract their corresponding colors. Second, we generate a matching color table by sampling the template image according to the color structure of the original home scene image. Finally, we transform colors from the matching color table to the target home scene image with the boundary transition maintained. Experimental results show that our method can effectively transform the coloring of a scene matching with the color composition of a given natural or interior scenery

Entropy of entangled three-level atoms interacting with entangled cavity fields: entanglement swapping

The dynamics of an entangled atomic system in a partial interaction with entangled cavity fields, characterizing an entanglement swapping, have been studied through the use of Von Neuman entropy. We consider the interaction via two-photon process given by a full microscopical Hamiltonian approach. The explicit expression of the entropy is obtained, wherewith we estimated the largest period. The numerical simulation of the entropy of the entangled atomic and cavity systems shows that its time evolution presents multi-periodicity. The effects of detuning parameter on the period and the amplitude of the entropy are also discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 8 figure

    Grid-Enabled Non-Invasive Blood Glucose Measurement

Abstract. Earth and life sciences are at the forefront to successfully include computational simulations and modeling. Medical applications are often mentioned as the killer applications for the Grid. The complex methodology and models of Traditional Chinese Medicine offer different approaches to diagnose and treat a persons health condition than typical Western medicine. A possibility to make this often hidden knowledge ex-plicit and available to a broader audience will result in mutual synergies for Western and Chinese medicine as well as improved patient care. This paper proposes the design and implementation of a method to accurately estimate blood glucose values using a novel non-invasive method based on electro-transformation measures in human body meridians. The frame-work used for this scientific computing collaboration, namely the China-Austria Data Grid (CADGrid) framework, provides an Intelligence Base offering commonly used models and algorithms as Web/Grid-Services. The controlled execution of the Non-Invasive Blood Glucose Measure-ment Service and the management of scientific data that arise from model execution can be seen as the first application on top of the CADGrid
