Pool boiling on modified surfaces using R-123
This article has been made available through the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund.Saturated pool boiling of R-123 was investigated for five horizontal copper surfaces modified by different treatments, namely, an emery-polished surface, a fine sandblasted surface, a rough sandblasted surface, an electron beam-enhanced surface, and a sintered surface. Each 40-mm-diameter heating surface formed the upper face of an oxygen-free copper block, electrically heated by embedded cartridge heaters. The experiments were performed from the natural convection regime through nucleate boiling up to the critical heat flux, with both increasing and decreasing heat flux, at 1.01 bar, and additionally at 2 bar and 4 bar for the emery-polished surface. Significant enhancement of heat transfer with increasing surface modification was demonstrated, particularly for the electron beam-enhanced and sintered surfaces. The emery-polished and sandblasted surface results are compared with nucleate boiling correlations and other published data. © 2014 Syed W. Ahmad, John S. Lewis, Ryan J. McGlen, and Tassos G. Corrections to Tribimaximal Mixing from Nondegenerate Phases
We propose a seesaw scenario that possible corrections to the tribimaximal
pattern of lepton mixing are due to the small phase splitting of the
right-handed neutrino mass matrix. we show that the small deviations can be
expressed analytically in terms of two splitting parameters( and
) in the leading order. The solar mixing angle favors a
relatively smaller value compared to zero order value (), and the
Dirac type CP phase chooses a nearly maximal one. The two Majorana
type CP phases and turn out to be a nearly linear dependence.
Also a normal hierarchy neutrino mass spectrum is favored due to the stability
of perturbation calculations.Comment: 19 pages 6 figures, Accepted by Mod. Phy. Lett.
Development of an Online Sales Information System for SMEs Using Incremental Methods
Home Industry Shoes is one of the SMEs that are engaged in the production and sale of shoes. Shoes SMEs in marketing and sales have been still relying on customers from surrounding areas of production activities. Current business competition is stringent, thus making SME shoes demanded to be more advanced in marketing and sales to be able to stay afloat. Shoes SMEs have problems with promotional media and sales, which does not yet have an independent online sales system. Therefore, the authors feel the need to help SMEs by creating an online sales information system that can be used as a promotional media as well as a media for selling independently and easy to use. In this study, the authors apply the incremental method in system development and also observation in gathering data on the needs of the system developed. Achievements in this study, the authors, produce an online sales information system for SMEs, in particular, the production of home industry shoes that can be used independently by SMEs to carry out promotions and sales online.Home Industry Shoes is one of the SMEs that are engaged in the production and sale of shoes. The Relation Between Minimum Wages and Poverty in Indonesia: an Islamic Perspective
This study is part of Islamic economics research that aims to determine the relationship between the minimum wage and poverty rate in Indonesia, especially case studies in West Java, Central Java, East Java, Special Region of Yogyakarta, and Banten during the period 2007-2013. In addition to the primary independent variable, there are six control variables are used, the level of education, the GDP per capita, unemployment rate, inflation rate, average wages and economic growth. The analysis technique used in this study are Arellano Bond Dynamic GMM (Generalized Method of Moment). The results of this study found that the minimum wage is not a significant effect on poverty levels in 2007-2013, especially in the districts/cities in West Java, Central Java, East Java, Special Region of Yogyakarta and Banten. Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that government has responsibilities and sufficient role to reduce poverty through minimum wage standardization, the state also has responsibilities to create social security, both for those who are unable to work, informal workers and vulnerable workers, so that the level of wages (income) they can meet any basic needs according to Ibn Hazm include food, clothing, health, education and housing
A Unified Approach towards Describing Rapidity and Transverse Momentum Distributions in Thermal Freeze-Out Model
We have attempted to describe the rapidity and transverse momentum spectra,
simultaneously, of the hadrons produced in the Ultra-relativistic Nuclear
Collisions. This we have tried to achieve in a single statistical thermal
freeze-out model using single set of parameters. We assume the formation of a
hadronic gas in thermo-chemical equilibrium at the freeze-out. The model
incorporates a longitudinal as well as a transverse hydrodynamic flow. We have
also found that the role of heavier hadronic resonance decay is important in
explaining the particle spectra.Comment: 22 pages, 11 figure
Passively mode-locked laser using an entirely centred erbium-doped fiber
This paper describes the setup and experimental results for an entirely centred erbium-doped fiber laser with passively mode-locked output. The gain medium of the ring laser cavity configuration comprises a 3 m length of two-core optical fiber, wherein an undoped outer core region of 9.38 μm diameter surrounds a 4.00 μm diameter central core region doped with erbium ions at 400 ppm concentration. The generated stable soliton mode-locking output has a central wavelength of 1533 nm and pulses that yield an average output power of 0.33 mW with a pulse energy of 31.8 pJ. The pulse duration is 0.7 ps and the measured output repetition rate of 10.37 MHz corresponds to a 96.4 ns pulse spacing in the pulse train
The performance of modified jatropha-based nanofluid during turning process
The industry's extensive use of petroleum-based metalworking fluid (MWF) harms the environment
and humans. The production of bio-based MWF, especially from crude jatropha oil (CJO), has therefore taken
numerous initiatives. This aimed to formulate newly modified jatropha oil (MJO) with the addition of 0.05wt.%
hBN and 0.05wt.% MoS2 as the nanofluid for MWF. The performance of the nanofluids was determined
through the turning process in terms of cutting temperature, workpiece surface roughness, tool life and tool
wear of the tool lubricated by the nanofluids. The performance of the nanofluid samples was compared with
the synthetic ester (SE). From the results, after conducted 100mm axial cutting length MJO+hBN+MoS2
recorded the lowest in cutting temperature and surface roughness compared to all samples. The result shows
that MJO+hBN+MoS2 has longer tool life (6500mm) compared to SE (6000mm). Abrasion and adhesion were
observed as the dominant tool wear mechanism. In conclusion, MJO+hBN+MoS2 shows better machining
performance and has the potential to be an environmentally friendly metalworking fluid
