Revealing the Feature Influence in HTTP Botnet Detection
Botnet are identified as one of most emerging threats due to Cybercriminals work diligently to make most of the part of the users’ network of computers as their target. In conjunction to that, many researchers has conduct a lot of study regarding on the botnets and ways to detect botnet in network traffic. Most of them only used the feature inside the system without mentioning the feature influence in botnet detection. Selecting a significant feature are important in botnet detection as it can increase the accuracy of detection. Besides, existing research focusses more on the technique of recognition rather than uncovering the purpose behind the selection. Therefore, this paper will reveal the influence feature in botnet detection using statistical method. The result obtained showed the accuracy is about 91% which is approximately acceptable to use the influence feature in detecting botnet activity
Big Data and IoT Opportunities for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs)
The advancement of technology and emergence of internet of things (IoT) has exponentially caused a data explosion in the 21st century era. As such, the arrival of IoT is set to revolutionize the development of the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) organizations by shaping it into a more universal and integrated ecosystem. Despite evidential studies of the potential of advanced technologies for businesses, the SMEs are apprehensive towards new technologies adoption such as big data analytics and IoT. Therefore, the aim of this chapter is to provide a holistic study of big data and IoT opportunities, challenges, and applications within the SMEs context. The authors hope that the outcome of this study would provide foundational information on how the SMEs can partake with the new wave technological advancement and in turn, spurring more SMEs for adoption
Effect of accelerated storage on chemical compositions of mango seed fat and palm oil mid-fraction blends as cocoa butter replacers
In this study, mango seed fat (MSF) and its recommended blends were stored under accelerated condition. During the accelerated storage, the changes of fatty acids, total phenolic, tocopherol, and phytosterol contents, iodine, free fatty acid (FFA), and peroxide values were examined every six days. Results upon storage, palmitic and stearic acids increased from 18.0 to 22.5% and from 33.3 to 36.7%, while oleic and linoleic acids decreased from 40.5 to 34.3% and from 5.4 to 2.1% in blend containing 85 g MSF/100 g fat. The iodine values of MSF and its recommended blends decreased (48.2 ± 1.2 to 32.0 ± 0.8 g iodine/100 g fat), while the peroxide (1.1e4.2 ± 0.0 milliequivalent O2/kg fat) and FFA (1.8-3.9 ± 0.0 g/100 g of fat) values increased after accelerated storage. The results obtained from this study provide an indication about the storage stability of MSF and its blends as cocoa butter replacers to food industry, in particular chocolate industry
Thermal properties, triglycerides and crystal morphology of bambangan (Mangifera pajang) kernel fat and palm stearin blends as cocoa butter alternatives
The aim of this study was to investigate the thermal properties of bambangan kernel fat (BKF) and palm stearin (PS) blends and their possibility as cocoa butter alternatives. The triglycerides, thermal behaviors, and crystal morphology of the BKF and PS blends were determined using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and polarized light microscope (PLM). All the blends had three main triglycerides; namely, 1,3-dipalmitoyl-2-oleoyl-glycerol, 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-3-stearoyl-glycerol, and 1,3-distearoyl-2-oleoyl-glycerol. The melting onset temperatures decreased for both non-stabilized (−8.81 to −16.80 °C) and stabilized fat blends (−14.04 to −22.16 °C), whereas the melting offset temperatures shifted toward high temperatures for both non-stabilized (35.94–50.21 °C) and stabilized fat blends (48.35–53.16 °C) with PS. The crystallization onset temperatures increased for both non-stabilized (14.66–23.78 °C) and stabilized fat blends (15.46–26.89 °C), whereas the offset temperatures decreased with the addition of PS for non-stabilized (−15.68 to −22.02 °C) and stabilized fat blends (−15.73 to −22.38 °C). The stabilized fat blends showed higher melting and crystallization peak temperatures than non-stabilized fat blends. In the study of crystal morphology, the fat blends showed small spherulites with the diameter of 10–100 μm
BRCA1 and BRCA2 Germline Mutations in Malaysian Women with Early-Onset Breast Cancer without a Family History
BACKGROUND: In Asia, breast cancer is characterised by an early age of onset: In Malaysia, approximately 50% of cases occur in women under the age of 50 years. A proportion of these cases may be attributable, at least in part, to genetic components, but to date, the contribution of genetic components to breast cancer in many of Malaysia's ethnic groups has not been well-characterised. METHODOLOGY: Given that hereditary breast carcinoma is primarily due to germline mutations in one of two breast cancer susceptibility genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2, we have characterised the spectrum of BRCA mutations in a cohort of 37 individuals with early-onset disease (<or=40 years) and no reported family history. Mutational analysis of BRCA1 and BRCA2 was conducted by full sequencing of all exons and intron-exon junctions. CONCLUSIONS: Here, we report a total of 14 BRCA1 and 17 BRCA2 sequence alterations, of which eight are novel (3 BRCA1 and 5 BRCA2). One deleterious BRCA1 mutation and 2 deleterious BRCA2 mutations, all of which are novel mutations, were identified in 3 of 37 individuals. This represents a prevalence of 2.7% and 5.4% respectively, which is consistent with other studies in other Asian ethnic groups (4-9%)
Characterization of FUS Mutations in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Using RNA-Seq
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease resulting in severe muscle weakness and eventual death by respiratory failure. Although little is known about its pathogenesis, mutations in fused in sarcoma/translated in liposarcoma (FUS) are causative for familial ALS. FUS is a multifunctional protein that is involved in many aspects of RNA processing. To elucidate the role of FUS in ALS, we overexpressed wild-type and two mutant forms of FUS in HEK-293T cells, as well as knocked-down FUS expression. This was followed by RNA-Seq to identify genes which displayed differential expression or altered splicing patterns. Pathway analysis revealed that overexpression of wild-type FUS regulates ribosomal genes, whereas knock-down of FUS additionally affects expression of spliceosome related genes. Furthermore, cells expressing mutant FUS displayed global transcription patterns more similar to cells overexpressing wild-type FUS than to the knock-down condition. This observation suggests that FUS mutants do not contribute to the pathogenesis of ALS through a loss-of-function. Finally, our results demonstrate that the R521G and R522G mutations display differences in their influence on transcription and splicing. DNA Methylation Changes in Atypical Adenomatous Hyperplasia, Adenocarcinoma In Situ, and Lung Adenocarcinoma
BACKGROUND:Aberrant DNA methylation is common in lung adenocarcinoma, but its timing in the phases of tumor development is largely unknown. Delineating when abnormal DNA methylation arises may provide insight into the natural history of lung adenocarcinoma and the role that DNA methylation alterations play in tumor formation. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS:We used MethyLight, a sensitive real-time PCR-based quantitative method, to analyze DNA methylation levels at 15 CpG islands that are frequently methylated in lung adenocarcinoma and that we had flagged as potential markers for non-invasive detection. We also used two repeat probes as indicators of global DNA hypomethylation. We examined DNA methylation in 249 tissue samples from 93 subjects, spanning the putative spectrum of peripheral lung adenocarcinoma development: histologically normal adjacent non-tumor lung, atypical adenomatous hyperplasia (AAH), adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS, formerly known as bronchioloalveolar carcinoma), and invasive lung adenocarcinoma. Comparison of DNA methylation levels between the lesion types suggests that DNA hypermethylation of distinct loci occurs at different time points during the development of lung adenocarcinoma. DNA methylation at CDKN2A ex2 and PTPRN2 is already significantly elevated in AAH, while CpG islands at 2C35, EYA4, HOXA1, HOXA11, NEUROD1, NEUROD2 and TMEFF2 are significantly hypermethylated in AIS. In contrast, hypermethylation at CDH13, CDX2, OPCML, RASSF1, SFRP1 and TWIST1 and global DNA hypomethylation appear to be present predominantly in invasive cancer. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE:The gradual increase in DNA methylation seen for numerous loci in progressively more transformed lesions supports the model in which AAH and AIS are sequential stages in the development of lung adenocarcinoma. The demarcation of DNA methylation changes characteristic for AAH, AIS and adenocarcinoma begins to lay out a possible roadmap for aberrant DNA methylation events in tumor development. In addition, it identifies which DNA methylation changes might be used as molecular markers for the detection of preinvasive lesions
Incident type 2 diabetes attributable to suboptimal diet in 184 countries
The global burden of diet-attributable type 2 diabetes (T2D) is not well established. This risk assessment model estimated T2D incidence among adults attributable to direct and body weight-mediated effects of 11 dietary factors in 184 countries in 1990 and 2018. In 2018, suboptimal intake of these dietary factors was estimated to be attributable to 14.1 million (95% uncertainty interval (UI), 13.814.4 million) incident T2D cases, representing 70.3% (68.871.8%) of new cases globally. Largest T2D burdens were attributable to insufficient whole-grain intake (26.1% (25.027.1%)), excess refined rice and wheat intake (24.6% (22.327.2%)) and excess processed meat intake (20.3% (18.323.5%)). Across regions, highest proportional burdens were in central and eastern Europe and central Asia (85.6% (83.487.7%)) and Latin America and the Caribbean (81.8% (80.183.4%)); and lowest proportional burdens were in South Asia (55.4% (52.160.7%)). Proportions of diet-attributable T2D were generally larger in men than in women and were inversely correlated with age. Diet-attributable T2D was generally larger among urban versus rural residents and higher versus lower educated individuals, except in high-income countries, central and eastern Europe and central Asia, where burdens were larger in rural residents and in lower educated individuals. Compared with 1990, global diet-attributable T2D increased by 2.6 absolute percentage points (8.6 million more cases) in 2018, with variation in these trends by world region and dietary factor. Children's and adolescents' rising animal-source food intakes in 1990-2018 were impacted by age, region, parental education and urbanicity
Animal-source foods (ASF) provide nutrition for children and adolescents physical and cognitive development. Here, we use data from the Global Dietary Database and Bayesian hierarchical models to quantify global, regional and national ASF intakes between 1990 and 2018 by age group across 185 countries, representing 93% of the worlds child population. Mean ASF intake was 1.9 servings per day, representing 16% of children consuming at least three daily servings. Intake was similar between boys and girls, but higher among urban children with educated parents. Consumption varied by age from 0.6 at <1 year to 2.5 servings per day at 1519 years. Between 1990 and 2018, mean ASF intake increased by 0.5 servings per week, with increases in all regions except sub-Saharan Africa. In 2018, total ASF consumption was highest in Russia, Brazil, Mexico and Turkey, and lowest in Uganda, India, Kenya and Bangladesh. These findings can inform policy to address malnutrition through targeted ASF consumption programmes. (c) 2023, The Author(s)
