All rights reserved.With an ageing population that is on the increase, there are many older adults still in employment well past their retirement age. Currently, technological developments in the form of Online Social Networks (OSN1) are also impacting society and organizations alike, with organizations searching for ways to cope with these changes. The aim of this research study is to investigate the factors affecting the likelihood of adoption and use of OSN within an older population. Using an online questionnaire, empirical data was drawn from Hertfordshire, a vicinity in the United Kingdom, and analysed using the Partial Least Squares method. The findings revealed that — in a household situation — older individuals adopt internet technologies if they have ‘anytime access’ to internet capable devices, a fast reliable internet connection, the support of their family and friends, as well as an apparent provision of privacy. For organizations, these findings indicate that the provision of a technical/trusted support department is essential, as is the provision for broadband and reliable internet connections. For academia, this research identifies factors that have been developed using theoretical concepts that will impact older adults' adoption and use of new technologies, but requires further research into whether these factors will impact a cross generation of workers in the organizationPeer reviewe

    ANALYSIS OF GENETIC DIVERSITY IN TWELVE CULTIVARS OF PEA BASED ON MORPHOLOGICAL AND SIMPLE SEQUENCE REPEAT MARKERS

    Pea(Pisum sativum L.)is the second most important legume crop worldwide after chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) and valuable resources for their genetic improvement. This study aimed to analyze genetic diversity of pea cultivars through morphological and molecular markers. The present investigation was carried out with 12 pea cultivars using 28 simple sequence repeat markers. A total of 60 polymorphic bands with an average of 2.31 bands per primer were obtained. The polymorphic information content, diversity index and resolving power were ranged from 0.50 to 0.33, 0.61 to 0.86 and 0.44 to 1.0 with an average of 0.46, 0.73 and 0.76, respectively. The 12 pea cultivars were grouped into 3 clusters obtained from cluster analysis with a Jaccardd’s similarity coefficient range of 0.47-0.78, indicating the sufficient genetic divergence among these cultivars of pea. The principal component analysis showed that first three principal components explained 86.97% of the total variation, suggesting the contribution of quantitative traits in genetic variability. The contribution of 32.59% for number of seeds per plant, stem circumference, number of pods per plant and number of seeds per pod in the PC1 leads to the conclusion that these traits contribute more to the total variation observed in the 12 pea cultivars and would make a good parental stock material. Overall, this SSR analysis complements morphological characters of initial selection of these pea germplasms for future breeding program

    Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) refers to a constellation of signs and symptoms that arise from compression of the neurovascular bundle within the confined space of the thoracic outlet. Neurogenic (nTOS) from brachial plexus compression (95%), venous (vTOS) from subclavian vein compression (3%), & arterial (aTOS) from subclavian artery compression (1%). Most common clinical presentation of aTOS patients is distal upper extremity arterial emboli in otherwise healthy patient. Presenting a case report of arterial thoracic outlet syndrome.

    A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF STEREOCHEMICAL EFFECTS OF ANTI-PROSTATE AGENTS BY MOLECULAR DOCKING

    Objective: A comparative study of anti-prostate agents to investigate the stereochemical influences on binding affinity by molecular docking.Methods: Structures of enantiomers (R and S stereoisomers) for known anti-prostate cancer (PCa) agents were drawn using ChemBioDraw 2D software. Thereafter, they were converted to 3D structures using the ChemBioDraw 3D software in which they were subjected to energy minimization using the MM2 method and then saved as PDB extension files which can be accessed using the ADT interface. AutoDock Vina (ADT) 1.5.6 software version was used for molecular docking study.Results: A total of 12 different anti-PCa agents were selected and drawn including well-known drug R-bicalutamide. All molecules showed the binding affinity with respect to the nature of stereochemistry. R-stereoisomers showed better interaction as well as binding affinity toward 1z95 (mutated androgen receptor protein involved in the progression of PCa) whereas their S-stereoisomers were found inferior in comparison.Conclusion: This study showed that CB1-R and R-bicalutamide (with R-stereochemistry) were better in binding affinity comparative to their counterpart CB1-S and S-Bicalutamide (with S-stereochemistry). All the selected anti-PCa agents were showing the effect of stereochemical center; therefore, we must choose the right kind of stereochemistry while planning to develop the newer anti-PCa agents

    Higher order antibunching in intermediate states

    Since the introduction of binomial state as an intermediate state, different intermediate states have been proposed. Different nonclassical effects have also been reported in these intermediate states. But till now higher order antibunching or higher order subpoissonian photon statistics is predicted only in one type of intermediate state, namely shadowed negative binomial state. Recently we have shown the existence of higher order antibunching in some simple nonlinear optical processes to establish that higher order antibunching is not a rare phenomenon (J. Phys. B 39 (2006) 1137). To establish our earlier claim further, here we have shown that the higher order antibunching can be seen in different intermediate states, such as binomial state, reciprocal binomial state, hypergeometric state, generalized binomial state, negative binomial state and photon added coherent state. We have studied the possibility of observing the higher order subpoissonian photon statistics in different limits of intermediate states. The effect of different control parameters have also been studied in this connection and it has been shown that the depth of nonclassicality can be tuned by controlling various physical parameters.Comment: 12 Pages LaTeX 2e, 11 figure

    Rare case of Hirayama’s disease

    Hirayama’s disease is a rare benign neurological disorder also known as monomelic amyotrophy, Sobue disease,Juvenile Muscular Atrophy of Distal Upper Extremity (JMADUE). It mainly affects young males in their second or third decades and is most commonly seen in Asian countries like Japan, Malaysia and India. In majority of the cases the cause of the disease is unknown. An 18 year male came with weakness in his right hand and forearm since 1 year. Examination revealed weakness and wasting of muscles of forearm and hand without lower limb involvement and normal deep tendon reflexes. MRI showed focal short segment hyperintense signal in the ventral and right lateral aspect of the cervical cord at C5-C6 level with the involved segment measuring 4x3mm in size. Based on clinical and radiological features a diagnosis of focal amyotrophy was made. Patient is given a cervical collar to prevent flexion at the neck and physiotherapy in the form of hand and forearm exercises were started. Regular follow up of the patient once every 2 months is being done. Hirayama’s disease is a rare, benign, self-limiting neurological disorder. Early diagnosis and management by preventing cervical flexion with the help of a cervical collar has shown to halt the progression of the disease
