Trastuzumab: Updated Mechanisms of Action and Resistance in Breast Cancer
HER2-positive breast cancer accounts for 20ā30% of all breast cancers and has the second-poorest prognosis among breast cancer subtypes. The approval of trastuzumab in 1998 has significantly improved patientsā outcomes and paved the way for the beginning of advent of targeted approaches in breast cancer treatment. However, primary or acquired resistance to trastuzumab has been increasingly recognized as a major obstacle in the clinical management of this disease. In addition, in clinical practice, there are currently no conclusive biomarkers for patient response to trastuzumab. Therefore, understanding the molecular mechanism of trastuzumab and the development of resistance to this drug are of interest. Such understanding will provide the guidance critically needed for the design of better combination therapy and will allow the appropriate selection of patients who are responsive to trastuzumab-based strategies. In line with that, our review highlights the well-accepted mechanisms of action and resistance to the therapy and discusses the progress that has been made toward successfully overcoming this resistance
Differential diagnosis of dna viruses related to reproductive disorder on sows by multiplex-pcr technique
The newly emerged diseases caused by ASFV and PCV3 and their confirmed prevelance in Vietnam whereas most of available common commercial methods such as ELISA or realtime PCR designed for detecting single pathogen per reaction, highlighted a necessity for another diagnostic method to simultaneously detect and differentiate DNA viruses that are related to reproductive failures in sow herds including PCV2, PCV3, PPV, ASFV. In this communication, a diagnostic multiplex-PCR (mPCR) was established with pathogen-specific primers selected from previous studies and another set of primers designed for COX1 gene serving as an internal amplification control (IAC). The predicted products of PCV2, PCV3, PPV, ASFV and IAC were 702 bp, 223 bp, 380 bp, 278 bp and 463 bp, respectively. After optimization, the mPCR functioned specifically at 62Ā°C. Results revealed the consistent detection limit at 100 copies/gene/reaction. In application, 185 serum samples from sows were used to examine the presence of the related pathogens. mPCR results showed that the mono-infection rate of PCV2, PCV3, PPV, and ASFV was 0% (0/185), 40% (74/185), 28.1% (52/185), and 48.1% (89/185), respectively. Regarding coinfection rate, the data indicated that coinfections of 2, 3 and 4 pathogens were 20%, 8.1% and 0% accordingly. In conclusion, the mPCR assay was successfully established and ready to serve for diagnosis of PCV2, PCV3, PPV and ASFV infection in reality with high specificity and sensitivity. It is a good contribution to a better understanding of the epidemiology of these diseases in swine
VLSP SHARED TASK: SENTIMENT ANALYSIS
Sentiment analysis is a natural language processing (NLP) task of identifying orextracting the sentiment content of a text unit. This task has become an active research topicĀ since the early 2000s. During the two last editions of the VLSP workshop series, the shared task on Sentiment Analysis (SA) for Vietnamese has been organized in order to provide an objective evaluation measurement about the performance (quality) of sentiment analysis tools, and encouragethe development of Vietnamese sentiment analysis systems, as well as to provide benchmark datasetsĀ for this task. The rst campaign in 2016 only focused on the sentiment polarity classication, with a dataset containing reviews of electronic products. The second campaign in 2018 addressed the problem of Aspect Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA) for Vietnamese, by providing two datasetsĀ containing reviews in restaurant and hotel domains. These data are accessible for research purpose via the VLSP website vlsp.org.vn/resources. This paper describes the built datasets as well as the evaluation results of the systems participating to these campaigns
VLSP Shared Task: Named Entity Recognition
Named entities (NE) are phrases that contain the names of persons, organizations, locations, times and quantities, monetary values, percentages, etc. Named Entity Recognition (NER) is the task of recognizing named entities in documents. NER is an important subtask of Information Extraction, which has attracted researchers all over the world since 1990s. For Vietnamese language, although there exists some research projects and publications on NER task before 2016, no systematic comparison of the performance of NER systems has been done. In 2016, the organizing committee of the VLSP workshop decided to launch the first NER shared task, in order to get an objective evaluation of Vietnamese NER systems and to promote the development of high quality systems. As a result, the first dataset with morpho-syntactic and NE annotations has been released for benchmarking NER systems. At VLSP 2018, the NER shared task has been organized for the second time, providing a bigger dataset containing texts from various domains, but without morpho-syntactic annotation. These resources are available for research purpose via the VLSP website vlsp.org.vn/resources. In this paper, we describe the datasets as well as the evaluation results obtained from these two campaigns
Theory of the optical absorption of light carrying orbital angular momentum by semiconductors
We develop a free-carrier theory of the optical absorption of light carrying
orbital angular momentum (twisted light) by bulk semiconductors. We obtain the
optical transition matrix elements for Bessel-mode twisted light and use them
to calculate the wave function of photo-excited electrons to first-order in the
vector potential of the laser. The associated net electric currents of first
and second-order on the field are obtained. It is shown that the magnetic field
produced at the center of the beam for the mode is of the order of a
millitesla, and could therefore be detected experimentally using, for example,
the technique of time-resolved Faraday rotation.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett. (23 Jan 2008

Sensor development and readout prototyping for the STAR Pixel detector
The STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) is designing a new vertex detector. The purpose of this upgrade detector is to provide high resolution pointing to allow for the direct topological reconstruction of heavy flavor decays such as the D{sup 0} by finding vertices displaced from the collision vertex by greater than 60 microns. We are using Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor (MAPS) as the sensor technology and have a coupled sensor development and readout system plan that leads to a final detector with a <200 {micro}s integration time, 400 M pixels and a coverage of -1 < {eta} < 1. We present our coupled sensor and readout development plan and the status of the prototyping work that has been accomplished
Reliability-based Design Optimization of Steel-Concrete Composite Beams Using Genetic Algorithm and Monte Carlo Simulation
Steel-Concrete Composite (SCC) beams have been commonly used in civil and industrial buildings. It is the main bearing structure and accounts for 30-40% of the structural cost. Therefore, the optimal design with minimum weight and safety structure of the SCC beams is very important. Reliability is an important part of structural safety. Design according to reliability has been included in standards such as ISO 2394:2012, JB50153-92, and BS 5760-0:2014. This article aims to propose and apply a design optimization algorithm for the reliability-based design of SCC beams. The reliability-based design optimization of the SCC beams combines the safety conditions of EC-4, Genetic Algorithm, and Monte Carlo simulation. The numerical results show that with safety probability constraint conditions Ps=98%, the cross-section of the SCC beams can be reduced from IPE 400 to IPE 300
Via-SEES: Variability in Atmosphere from Solar Energetic Electrons
Variability In Atmosphere from Solar Energetic Electron Study (VIA-SEES) is a hybrid science mission and technology development campaign from the Earth and Planetary Exploration Technologies (EPET) program at the University of Hawaiāi. It is oriented around establishing a direct correlation between Solar Radiation Events (SREs) and Variability in Atmospheric gases, specifically Nitric and Nitrous Oxide, as well as Ozone. The mission is intended to fly on a 3U CubeSat and will collect a data set which is multimodal. To achieve robust performance, a variety of techniques are employed to make the science data set easier to interpret by an analyst. It is important to consider the format of the data sets, which is generally given by the instrument collecting the data. To allow for a better establishment of an anticoincidence, meaning that there is a precise correlation between 2 readings on the same index, a systems engineering approach is taken. This is as the science mission requirements should drive the design of the mission. A comprehensive approach is taken in the design of the VIA-SEES spacecraft, to maximize the scientific value of the mission
