On the Convergence of Ritz Pairs and Refined Ritz Vectors for Quadratic Eigenvalue Problems
For a given subspace, the Rayleigh-Ritz method projects the large quadratic
eigenvalue problem (QEP) onto it and produces a small sized dense QEP. Similar
to the Rayleigh-Ritz method for the linear eigenvalue problem, the
Rayleigh-Ritz method defines the Ritz values and the Ritz vectors of the QEP
with respect to the projection subspace. We analyze the convergence of the
method when the angle between the subspace and the desired eigenvector
converges to zero. We prove that there is a Ritz value that converges to the
desired eigenvalue unconditionally but the Ritz vector converges conditionally
and may fail to converge. To remedy the drawback of possible non-convergence of
the Ritz vector, we propose a refined Ritz vector that is mathematically
different from the Ritz vector and is proved to converge unconditionally. We

Entwicklung von Tritiumpermeationshemmenden Schichten auf F82H-mod. Blechen und MANET Rohren nach dem Hot-Dip Aluminierverfahren mit anschließender Wärmebehandlung
In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden die Ergebnisse von tauchaluminierten Blechproben aus F82H-mod. und Rohrproben aus MANET diskutiert. Die anschließende Wärmebehandlung an den getauchten Proben (1040°C, 0.5 h / 750°C, 1 h bzw. 1075°C, 0.5 h / 750°C, 2 h) entspricht der Vergütungsvorschrift für F82H-mod. bzw. der für MANET.
Das Hot-Dip Aluminierverfahren mit anschließender Wärmebehandlung eignet sich als Beschichtungsmethode sowohl für Blechproben als auch für die Innen- und Außenbeschichtung von Rohren. Die Zusammensetzung und Dicke der hergestellten Schichten ist unabhängig vom eingesetzten Stahl. Des weiteren wird gezeigt, daß die hergestellten Aluminidschichten in Pb-17Li beständig sind, der PRF genügend hoch ist und die einzelnen Prozeßschritte mit der ITM Geometrie und der Fabrikationssequenz vereinbar sind
Dependence of the LMXB population on stellar age
We investigate the dependence of the low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) population
in early-type galaxies on stellar age, by selecting 20 massive nearby
early-type galaxies from the Chandra archive occupying a relatively narrow
range of masses and spanning a broad range of ages, from 1.6 Gyr to more than
10 Gyrs, with the median value of 6 Gyrs. With the ~ 2000 X-ray point sources
detected in total, we correlated the specific number of LMXBs in each galaxy
with its stellar age and globular cluster (GC) content. We found a correlation
between the LMXB population and stellar age: older galaxies tend to possess
about ~50% more LMXBs (per unit stellar mass) than the younger ones. The
interpretation of this dependence is complicated by large scatter and a rather
strong correlation between stellar age and GC content of galaxies in our
sample. We present evidence suggesting that the more important factor may be
the evolution of the LMXB population with time. Its effect is further amplified
by the larger GC content of older galaxies and correspondingly, the larger
numbers of dynamically formed binaries in them. We also found clear evolution
of the X-ray luminosity function (XLF) with age, that younger galaxies have
more bright sources and fewer faint sources per unit stellar mass. The XLF of
LMXBs in younger galaxies appears to extend significantly beyond E39 erg/s.
Such bright sources seem to be less frequent in older galaxies. We found that 6

Correlation property of length sequences based on global structure of complete genome
This paper considers three kinds of length sequences of the complete genome.
Detrended fluctuation analysis, spectral analysis, and the mean distance
spanned within time are used to discuss the correlation property of these
sequences. The values of the exponents from these methods of these three kinds
of length sequences of bacteria indicate that the long-range correlations exist
in most of these sequences. The correlation have a rich variety of behaviours
including the presence of anti-correlations. Further more, using the exponent
, it is found that these correlations are all linear (). It is also found that these sequences exhibit noise in some
interval of frequency (). The length of this interval of frequency depends
on the length of the sequence. The shape of the periodogram in exhibits
some periodicity. The period seems to depend on the length and the complexity

Intracranial Pressure Modulates Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions: A Proof-of-Principle Study
BACKGROUND:
There is an important need to develop a noninvasive method for assessing intracranial pressure (ICP). We report a novel approach for monitoring ICP using cochlear-derived distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs), which are affected by ICP. OBJECTIVE:
We hypothesized that changes in ICP may be reflected by altered DPOAE responses via an associated change in perilymphatic pressure. METHODS:
We measured the ICP and DPOAEs (magnitude and phase angle) during opening and closing in 20 patients undergoing lumbar puncture. RESULTS:
We collected data on 18 patients and grouped them based on small (Hg), medium (5-11 mm Hg), or large (≥15 mm Hg) ICP changes. A permutation test was applied in each group to determine whether changes in DPOAEs differed from zero when ICP changed. We report significant changes in the DPOAE magnitudes and angles, respectively, for the group with the largest ICP changes and no changes for the group with the smallest changes; the group with medium changes had variable DPOAE changes. CONCLUSION:
We report, for the first time, systematic changes in DPOAE magnitudes and phase in response to acute ICP changes. Future studies are warranted to further develop this new approach
