Best Practices of Russia and Finland in Extracting REE from Fertilizer Waste
In the production of fertilisers and commodity metals large amounts of stabilised waste is generated. Conventionally, manufacturing is targeted at the recovery of economically and technically most attractive key elements while the inorganic waste stream will gather all the other added-value chemical quantities. For example, substantial amounts of rare earth metals, which are increasingly used in various modern technologies including cleantech and photonics are present in phosphogypsum, the voluminous waste of the worldwide fertiliser industry. The waste heaps, while generally stabilised against weathering, appear usually granular or even as powder-like fines. Thus they represent a readily comminuted raw material for innovative mechanical, hydrometallurgical, biohydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical techniques to recover considerable amounts of valuable metals and metal concentrates.

Entanglement in Valence-Bond-Solid States
This article reviews the quantum entanglement in Valence-Bond-Solid (VBS)
states defined on a lattice or a graph. The subject is presented in a
self-contained and pedagogical way. The VBS state was first introduced in the
celebrated paper by I. Affleck, T. Kennedy, E. H. Lieb and H. Tasaki
(abbreviation AKLT is widely used). It became essential in condensed matter
physics and quantum information (measurement-based quantum computation). Many
publications have been devoted to the subject. Recently entanglement was
studied in the VBS state. In this review we start with the definition of a
general AKLT spin chain and the construction of VBS ground state. In order to
study entanglement, a block subsystem is introduced and described by the
density matrix. Density matrices of 1-dimensional models are diagonalized and
the entanglement entropies (the von Neumann entropy and Renyi entropy) are
calculated. In the large block limit, the entropies also approach finite
limits. Study of the spectrum of the density matrix led to the discovery that

Rare earth elements (REE) are as well classified as EU critical metals. The Finnish apatite minerals, industrially utilized for manufacturing phosphate fertilizers represent a potential secondary source of REE. In the current fertilizer manufacturing process even 80% of the REE will end up in the phosphogypsum (PG) side product, which then holds 0.15–0.5 % of REE. So far economical means of recovering REE from apatite or PG have not been found. Novel active extraction or ion exchange methods have been recently examined by UrFU.

The structure of Atlantic Water at Eurasian continental slope in summer 2007
Intensive field campaigns during the IPY (2007-2009) allowed unprecedented coverage of Eurasian continental slope by CTD measurements. These data allowed detailed mapping of the warm Atlantic water on its way from Fram Strait to the East Siberian Sea. Fourteen cross-slope sections, carried out by Russian, US and German scientists in August-September 2007 were used to determine position and properties of the warm Atlantic water core. Temperature and salinity data were examined against traditional concept of warm intermediate layer in the Arctic Ocean and in the view of recently introduced new ideas (e.g. seasonal oscillations in AW layer far from Fram Strait). Joined analysis of CTD data with long-term mooring observations demonstrated complex nature of warming-cooling pulses, which enter Arctic Ocean through Fram Strait and effect thermal conditions in Eurasian sector of the Arctic Ocean
Entanglement in a Valence-Bond-Solid State
We study entanglement in Valence-Bond-Solid state. It describes the ground
state of Affleck, Kennedy, Lieb and Tasaki quantum spin chain. The AKLT model
has a gap and open boundary conditions. We calculate an entropy of a subsystem
(continuous block of spins). It quantifies the entanglement of this block with
the rest of the ground state. We prove that the entanglement approaches a
constant value exponentially fast as the size of the subsystem increases.
Actually we proved that the density matrix of the continuous block of spins
depends only on the length of the block, but not on the total size of the chain
[distance to the ends also not essential]. We also study reduced density
matrices of two spins both in the bulk and on the boundary. We evaluated

Classical nonlinear response of a chaotic system: Langevin dynamics and spectral decomposition
We consider the classical response of a strongly chaotic Hamiltonian system.
The spectrum of such a system consists of discrete complex Ruelle-Pollicott
(RP) resonances which manifest themselves in the behavior of the correlation
and response functions. We interpret the RP resonances as the eigenstates and
eigenvalues of the Fokker-Planck operator obtained by adding an infinitesimal
noise term to the first-order Liouville operator. We demonstrate how the
deterministic expression for the linear response is reproduced in the limit of
vanishing noise. For the second-order response we establish an equivalence of
the spectral decomposition with infinitesimal noise and the long-time
asymptotic expansion for the deterministic case.Comment: 16 pages, 1 figur
A Quantum-Classical Brackets from p-Mechanics
We provide an answer to the long standing problem of mixing quantum and
classical dynamics within a single formalism. The construction is based on
p-mechanical derivation (quant-ph/0212101, quant-ph/0304023) of quantum and
classical dynamics from the representation theory of the Heisenberg group. To
achieve a quantum-classical mixing we take the product of two copies of the
Heisenberg group which represent two different Planck's constants. In
comparison with earlier guesses our answer contains an extra term of analytical
nature, which was not obtained before in purely algebraic setup.

Modified halocline water over the Laptev Sea continental margin : historical data analysis
Historical hydrographic data (1940s–2010) show a distinct cross-slope difference of the lower halocline water (LHW) over the Laptev Sea continental margins. Over the slope, the LHW is on average warmer and saltier by 0.2°C and 0.5 psu, respectively, relative to the off-slope LHW. The LHW temperature time series constructed from the on-slope historical records are related to the temperature of the Atlantic Water (AW) boundary current transporting warm water from the North Atlantic Ocean. In contrast, the on-slope LHW salinity is linked to the sea ice and wind forcing over the potential upstream source region in the Barents and northern Kara Seas, as also indicated by hydrodynamic model results. Over the Laptev Sea continental margin, saltier LHW favors weaker salinity stratification that, in turn, contributes to enhanced vertical mixing with underlying AW
