    Get PDF
This article presents the QuantSaT-PT project, an effort to create the first Portuguese nanosatellite for space to ground quantum communication. Focused on the Attitude Determination and Control System, it describes the different elements that allow for the attainment of diverse accuracy levels required for separate mission stages. Given the harsh pointing precision necessary for establishing a quantum downlink, the implementation of this module presents a major challenge in the Cubesat field. Furthermore, the introduced architecture aims to reduce system cost by replacing the state-of-the-art star tracker with ground beacon detection

The global market operate in a climate of constant social, economic and political turmoil, this dynamic process can cause a strong pressure on workers, creating an imbalance between professional and private life. One of the great challenges that organizations face is to train themselves with practices and strategies focused on people management that allow the retention of their best talent, since the abandonment of valuable human capital has a high financial cost and affects their competitiveness in the market. There must be a constant concern on the part of institutions to understand the individual in their work environment, in order to master the variables that motivate and make them productive. The present dissertation intends to influence the Work-Life Balance culture in force in the organization to influence the exit intention of its workers. And even if this relationship is the organizational commitment of the worker with the institution, for different human resources practices, such as performance among others and finally for the support of the team where the professional is inserted. The data collected allow us to confirm that WLB negatively influences turnover intention and that the calculative organizational commitment plays a moderating role in this relationship

HIV and tuberculosis co-infection among migrants in Europe: A systematic review on the prevalence, incidence and mortality.

    Get PDF
International human migration has been rapidly growing. Migrants coming from low and middle income countries continue to be considerably vulnerable and at higher risk for infectious diseases, namely HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and tuberculosis (TB). In Europe, the number of patients with HIV-TB co-infection has been increasing and migration could be one of the potential driving forces. This systematic review aims to improve the understanding on the burden of HIV-TB co-infection among migrants in Europe and to assess whether these populations are particularly vulnerable to this co-infection compared to nationals.MEDLINE®, Web of Science® and Scopus® databases were searched from March to April 2016 using combinations of keywords. Titles and abstracts were screened and studies meeting the inclusion criteria proceeded for full-text revision. These articles were then selected for data extraction on the prevalence, incidence and mortality. The majority of HIV-TB prevalence data reported in the analysed studies, including extrapulmonary/disseminated TB forms, was higher among migrant vs. nationals, some of the studies even showing increasing trends over time. Additionally, while HIV-TB incidence rates have decreased among migrants and nationals, migrants are still at a higher risk for this co-infection. Migrants with HIV-TB co-infection were also more prone to unsuccessful treatment outcomes, death and drug resistant TB. However, contradicting results also showed lower mortality compared to nationals.Overall, a disproportionate vulnerability of migrants to acquire the HIV-TB co-infection was observed across studies. Such vulnerability has been associated to low socioeconomic status, poor living conditions and limited access to healthcare. Adequate social support, early detection, appropriate treatment, and adequate access to healthcare are key improvements to tackle HIV-TB co-infection among these populations

Introduction: The general surgery residency training program has gained complexity, particularly due to laparoscopy. The Comission of General Surgery Residents (Comissão de Internos em Formação Específica em Cirurgia Geral), a chapter of Portuguese Society of Surgery (CIFECG-SPCir), aimed to characterize national general surgery residents in 2015 and evaluate their training program, through a survey. Methods: A survey regarding the subject, consisting of 40 questions, confidential and anonymous was sent via email. The statistical analysis was made with software software SPSS Statistics for Windows®, Version 21.0. Results and Discussion: The online survey was sent to 183 residents and obtained 105 answers (57,4%). The sample is mainly feminine, mean age 29 years, single and childless. The majority of residents dedicates 56 to 85 weekly hours to hospital duty, with prejudice of study time. Annually participation in courses and scientific events is almost always self-financing. There is a geographic variability of scientific work production, with more investigation involved residents in the north. The majority of surgery departments are already structured in functional units, with great organization variability without that translating to more surgeries or laparoscopic procedures. The vast majority of residents have 2 or more operating room days per week, operating more as main surgeon in elective than emergency surgeries. Laparoscopy is mainly executed by assistants and only in less than half of the procedures. The majority of the residents actively participates in outpatients assistance, mainly autonomously. A 24hours emergency rotation is the most frequent period of time per week. The probability to accomplishment the goals set by law (Portaria nº48/2011, January 26th) if higher in a secondary care hospital. The feeling of being prepared for the demands of the future is related to the number of surgeries but not emergency room shifts or study time. Conclusion: There is a wide variability of the national general surgery residency training program. An evaluation and training adequacy is being needed to face the resident and society new expectations.

More than 80 species of birds belonged to the family Psittacidae in Brazil, including parrots, macaws and parakeets. The maintenance of these birds in Zoos may help the conservation of the species, but the captivity can favor intestinal colonization by enterobacteria. The aim of this study was to identify the presence of Klebsiella spp. in the fecal samples of captive parrots. Thirty - four fecal samples were analyzed. The results showed that 11 (32.35%) were positive for Klebsiella spp., with identification of the species: K. pneumoniae and K. oxytoca. This study showed a high frequency of birds colonized by Klebsiella spp. Further studies are required to determine the pathogenicity, the antimicrobial resistance profile and zoonotic risks
