In order to provide state, local, and regional policy-makers and planners as well as businessmen with an analytic tool, an Input-Output Economic Analysis was made of the South Central Region of Texas for the year 1967. The results of this study are presented in this report entitled, An Input-Output Model of the South Central Region of Texas. This report provides an overview of the study region, including ·the geographic setting, demographic characteristics and economic factors of income, employment and earnings. Methodology and procedures of analyses used in the study are discussed. Suggestions as to how the findings of the study may be used as they relate to the total regional economy are presented along with some of the results of this study. The Input-Output tables for this region are included in this report

Energy efficient engine: Preliminary design and integration studies

    Get PDF
Parametric design and mission evaluations of advanced turbofan configurations were conducted for future transport aircraft application. Economics, environmental suitability and fuel efficiency were investigated and compared with goals set by NASA. Of the candidate engines which included mixed- and separate-flow, direct-drive and geared configurations, an advanced mixed-flow direct-drive configuration was selected for further design and evaluation. All goals were judged to have been met except the acoustic goal. Also conducted was a performance risk analysis and a preliminary aerodynamic design of the 10 stage 23:1 pressure ratio compressor used in the study engines

Using conversational data to determine lexical frequency in British Sign Language: The influence of text type

    Get PDF
This paper presents findings from an objective lexical frequency study in British Sign Language (BSL) based on 24,823 tokens collected as part of the BSL Corpus Project. The BSL study is only the fourth objective frequency study involving sign languages to be reported and is also the first study for any sign language to be based on entirely on spontaneous conversational data. When compared to previous frequency studies (both spoken and signed), some similarities can be observed although differences that may be attributed to text type are also recorded. When compared with subjective frequency ratings collected for BSL, a positive relationship is reported (similar to what has been observed for spoken languages). This is in contrast to a previous study which suggested a much weaker relationship between the two; however, this conclusion was based on a frequency count derived from narratives. These differences highlight the importance of using frequency measures derived from natural and spontaneous data, an opinion that has been emphasised in the spoken language literature
