The coronavirus pandemic severely disrupted college students’ learning experiences. A growing body of research is attempting to examine the impact of faculty efforts to support students during this difficult time. However, different outcomes measures might lead to varying inferences about the impact of instructors’ adaptations to their pedagogy. We explore this potential for varying inferences through a mixed-methods study of 11 courses taught at a Hispanic-Serving Institution in the United States in Spring 2020. First, using qualitative analytical methods, we identify five types of instructional adaptations made by faculty. Second, we use quantitative methods to uncover associations between these instructional adaptations and a variety of course outcome measures. While all of these instructional adaptations were perceived as beneficial by students, only one--ensuring access to instructor time--was significantly correlated with students’ reported motivational and personal gains from their coursework. However, only a different adaptation—ensuring access to class resources—was significantly correlated with reduced equity gaps measured through course grades. We discuss the implications of these findings for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers

The II-IV semiconductor compound, CdTe, has suitable electrical and optical properties as photovoltaic and high-energy radiation sensor material. As an absorber material for thin-film-based solar cells, CdTe holds the potentiality to fabricate high-efficiency solar cells by means of low-cost technologies. This chapter presents a comprehensive review on the CdTe thin-film deposition techniques as well as on the several configurations for the solar cell structures that have led the best efficiency conversion. Current CdTe thin-film deposition techniques include sputtering, close spaced vapor transport (CSVT), chemical spray pyrolysis, and electrodeposition. These techniques have easily been adapted to deposit polycrystalline CdTe films on various flexible and rigid substrates. In regard to the device structure configuration, a variety of partner materials (transparent contact, optical window, buffer layer) were tested, and CdTe film thickness was varied to develop opaque and semitransparent devices by some techniques mentioned above. In this chapter, we will discuss about each technique used for CdTe thin-film deposition as well as its advantages and disadvantages

The regulation of the inflammatory response is essential to maintaining homeostasis. Several studies have investigated new drugs that may contribute to avoiding or minimizing excessive inflammatory process. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of extracts of green algae Caulerpa mexicana on models inflammation. In mice, the inflammatory peritonitis model is induced by zymosan. Previous treatment of mice with aqueous and methanolic extracts of C. mexicana was able to suppress the cell migration to the peritoneal cavity, in a time-dependent but not in a dose-dependent manner. The treatment of mice with C. mexicana extracts also decreased the xylene-induced ear edema, exerting strong inhibitory leukocyte migration elicited by zymosan into the air pouch. We concluded that administration of the extracts resulted in a reduction of cell migration to different sites as well as a decrease in edema formation induced by chemical irritants. This study demonstrates for the first time the anti-inflammatory effect of aqueous and methanolic extracts from the green marine algae Caulerpa mexicana

Las reacciones clínicas secundarias más frecuentes fueron dolores óseos, musculares o ambos; y las hematológicas: anemia hemolítica autoinmune y trombocitopenia.<br>Forty three patients presenting with chronic positive-Philadelphia myeloid leukemia were assessed treated with Imatinib Mesilate as a second line drug by resistance or intolerance to recombinant alpha Interferon. At onset, the more frequent manifestation of this condition was the splenomegalia. Imatinib Mesilate treatment was started by resistance (33; 7.6 %) or 3 or 4 degree intolerance (10; 23.3 %). The greater percentage of cytogenetic response (22; 91.7 %) and complete (11; 61.1 %) was achieved at 18 and 24 course months. The 74.3 % hadn't "molecular response and the 5.1 % yet had it before treatment; 9 (26.5 %) showed a loss of complete hematologic remission, from them, 7 deceased from disease progression. Global survival was of 90.7 %, 83.3 %, 82.6 % and 78.9 % at 5, 6, 7 and 8 course years, respectively. Global survival and free of events at three years of Imatinib Mesilate appearance was of 92.3 % and 81.8 %, respectively. There was a significant difference between survival free of events and the Sokal prognostic rate. The more frequent secondary clinical reactions were the bone and/or muscular pain and the hematologic ones were the autoimmune hemolytic anemia and the thrombocytopenia
