Polarization switching in ferroelectric thin film junctions might lead to a change of the electronic band diagram of the device, which can result in important changes of resistance. This effect is known as electroresistance. Electroresistance in 12.2, 24.3 and 36.5 nm BTO thin films junctions is investigated. It is observed that electroresistance decreases with thickness. In addition, ferroelectric characterization allows to conclude that switchable ferroelectric polarization also decreases with thickness. Thus, we conclude that electroresistance is intimately linked to the ferroelectric switching process

What's Banking Sector Concentration Got to Do with Private Equity Market?

The paper investigates the link between bank concentration and a country's buyout market. We perform a macro level analysis for 15 European countries during 1997-2007. We estimate the elasticity of the country i's buyout market to country i's concentration in the banking sector. Our major finding suggests that the more concentrated the banking sector is, the better it is for the size of the buyout market. The elasticity ranges from 1 up to 3 percent depending on which bank concentration measure is employed and what segment of buyout market we look at. We also find that bank concentration is irrelevant for the average deal size. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper to analyze the link between banking sector developments and the market for leveraged buyouts

Jóvenes de piel clara, de alta estatura y contextura delgada: la feroz discriminación de la publicidad en Chile

Se examinó la apariencia física de modelos en la publicidad de los periódicos, en una muestra aleatoria de El Mercurio, La Tercera, Las Ultimas Noticias y La Cuarta, obtenida en quioscos de Santiago en 2018. Se clasificó 266 modelos de 132 avisos publicitarios de acuerdo a su género, grupo etario, estatura, peso, el color de la piel y del cabello. No hubo diferencias entre las proporciones de mujeres y hombres, con 48% y 52% respectivamente. Sin embargo, hubo sesgos claros en las otras características físicas: sólo el 7% pertenecía a la tercera edad, el 6% era de piel morena o negra, el 19% tenía el pelo de color negro, el 2% eran modelos con sobrepeso y no hubo modelos de baja estatura. Esto muestra que la representación de las características físicas en la publicidad es diferente a la que se observa en la población chilena. Se concluye que la selección de modelos en la publicidad excluye sistemáticamente a la tercera edad, a las personas bajas y obesas, y a los colores más oscuros de la piel y del cabello. Considerando que la publicidad influye en la salud mental de las personas, modificando la percepción y auto-satisfacción con la apariencia física, es necesario que nuestro país aborde adecuadamente el problema de la discriminación de la apariencia física en la publicidad
