Internship Report presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Data Science and Advanced Analytics, specialization in Business AnalyticsWith the increase of amount of data generated, finding a way to get knowledge and insights from them is fundamental in decision-making for any kind company in any field. For a company as EDP, an electric utility, and its responsibilities and commitments entailed its crucial to meet the expectations of its customers and investors, otherwise it is in danger of losing its reputation and money to its competitors. With this in mind and being that I was in the team responsible for collecting the sustainable data from the locations belonging to EDP Group, we decided to move forward to an analysis of the reporting process and by complementing it by analysing a clustering solution to characterize the diverse locations. This project followed CRISP-DM methodology from the beginning until the end where the clustering solution was found by applying hierarchical clustering on top of K-means. All the data understanding, transformation, modeling and model evaluation was performed using Jupyter Notebook, being the final solution built in Power BI platform

Conclusão: Devem ser tomadas medidas para melhorar os níveis de vitamina D na nossa população, prevenindo assim o surgimento de diversas patologias e aumentando o bem-estar da população em geral.ABSTRACT: Introduction: Several international studies indicate high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency, but there are few studies in Portugal and to date no study is known in the Azores. Material and methods: The present study consisted of a cross-sectional study of vitamin D measurements carried out in years 2016 and 2017. The analysis of vitamin D level took into consideration age, sex, requesting service and seasonal variation. When available, laboratory data on serum calcium, phosphorus and parathormone (PTH) was used to evaluate the vitamin D / PTH / calcium / phosphorus relation. Results: A total of 7438 measurements were analyzed, of which 47.24% presented deficient values, 30.08% were insufficient and 22.68% were sufficient. A negative correlation was found between age and vitamin D status. Female patients, nephrology and hospitalization services had greater deficits in this vitamin. Vitamin D levels were higher in the summer, but only 34.2% of patients had sufficient levels in this season. Discussion: Although there is a difference in vitamin D levels according to age, sex, requesting service or season in which the harvest occurred, the vast majority of users presented values below those recommended. Conclusion: Measures should be taken to improve vitamin D levels in our population, thus preventing the onset of various pathologies and increasing the well-being of the general population

Neste trabalho, o nosso principal intuito foi o de estudar a origem do CFSM através de textos, estudos científicos e testemunhos orais, e propor uma reflexão sobre este animal no contexto do Património Cultural Imaterial dos Açores.ABSTRACT: The growing prominence of the Fila de São Miguel Dog (CFSM) in the context Insular, National and International and the relational deepening Man - Animal, demonstrated by mutual affection, the change in the attitudes of human beings and the legislative strengthening on the subject, justified deepening the study of this matter. The need for help in daily laboring in the labors of the land and grazing, factors that support the primary sector in the Azores economy, caused the man islet adopt as it’s the lead dog, faithful companion of every day, giving back in exchange for their loyalty, the warmth of a home, almost as integrating it in their own household. In this work, our main goal was to study the origin of CFSM through texts, scientific studies and oral testimonies, and propose a reflection on this animal in the context of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Azores

In modern competitive environment, cost reduction across various production functions is im- perative. Material handling is no exception, as achieving a well-designed MHS (Material Han- dling System) is key for lowering operational costs and improving the work environment. Companies offering services such as the design of MHSs often find themselves devel- oping MHS design concepts to present to their customers before proceeding with the remain- ing systems' development. Although there are currently several approaches to the design of MHSs, most of these approaches are tailored to design and develop these systems to comple- tion. The present dissertation proposes a MHS design methodology suitable for designing MHSs both up to a concept stage and a detailed stage (complete design). The proposed meth- odology mainly differs from conventional approaches by identifying, prioritizing, and evaluat- ing key system metrics before proceeding with the equipment selection and validation pro- cesses. Doing so increases the likelihood of detecting unforeseen problems or opportunities for improvement sooner in the design process. In addition, if performed, these steps allow the companies mentioned above to achieve and propose design concepts truer to the eventual complete systems. This dissertation was performed within the scope of an internship at Metal-Conser, a company that designs and manufactures material handling systems. To evaluate the proposed MHS design methodology, the last was applied to a packag- ing and depalletizing system and compared to a design concept of the same system proposed by Metal-Conser. Additionally, during the methodology application, simulation software was used both to simulate the system's pick and place operations and to model and simulate the system's operations. Both of these applications had the intent to validate the use of these tools in future operations at Metal-Conser.

Performance management and assessment has returned to the forefront of the public debate in Portugal, at the same time that some international studies point Portugal as a country with bad management practices, highlighting performance management practices. Despite all this attention, there is little information about how those practices are applied in the country. This research’s goal is to assess why performance management systems and practices are so poorly applied in Portugal. To achieve this goal we studied employees’ perception about the topic and diagnose the associated problems. The methodology comprised inductive and qualitative research, in the form of interviews with employees from different professions, industries, hierarchies, and ages. Our findings suggest that performance management failure is related with a procedural problem with three different dimensions: Insufficient Planning, Process & Integrity Issues, and Non-Meritocratic Logic. By exposing the different components of the Portuguese performance management problem, we shed light into the topic and allow organizations to understand and face their performance management systems’ flaws

Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Information Systems and Technologies ManagementThis Master’s Thesis dissertation focuses on the insurance sector, more precisely on the insurance companies present in the Iberian Peninsula and how new technologies are being used. New technology trends, digital transformation, and technology disruption are widely used terms nowadays; however, while it is quite common to use these terms, their practices and theories are not always applied by businesses. Several factors can be the cause of the failure to implement technological trends in insurance companies, either due to lack of expertise, high costs, or simply because the technologies are not mature enough and there is some fear of creating a bad reputation with customers. In order to investigate this gap between the existing technology and the technology that is being used by the insurance companies, a case study analysis was performed. Based on the technologies identified in the literature review, in-depth interviews were conducted with CIO’s, CTO’s, IT Directors, and Heads of IT of some insurance companies (from small insurance companies to market-leading insurance companies) and the results were analyzed in order to reach a valid conclusion about this gap and why it exists. After carrying out the case analysis and analyzing the answers given by the respondents, it is possible to identify that the technological gap exists and what the main reasons are for the lack of usage of the new technological trends in most insurance companies
