    Get PDF

Satisfaction Scoring Index for a musical festival during and after the event: the NOS Primavera Sound case study

    Get PDF
Purpose: We present a Satisfaction Scoring Index (SSI) for a musical festival during and after its occurrence, using the NOS Primavera Sound as a case study. Methodology: Data from two random samples during and after the event were collected in the 2016 edition. The respondents were asked to rate their level of satisfaction throughout a five-point Likert scale (between 1 = “not satisfied” and 5 = “very satisfied”). The data were subjected to principal components analysis with varimax rotation to identify the weights of the level of satisfaction. Originality: It is the first time that SSI is applied to a music festival. We created a new framework that allows the scoring and ranking of the level of satisfaction and, consequently, can be a tool to support decision-making. Findings: The SSI during and after the festival is different. And the main difference is that the visitor attributes greater satisfaction to the musical stages during the event than after the event. This result is very relevant, and deserves a reflection on the part of the organization, since the stages are the core business of the event. Practical Implications: Understanding satisfaction in the most famous musical festival of the North of Portugal and what attracts more foreign tourists, could support the organizers and other stakeholders to improve services for visitants, adapting them to their preferences and, ultimately, provide better service in subsequent editions. Research limitations: We do not guarantee that the same festival visitors responded to the surveys during and after the event.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Purpose: Outdoor tourism is a growing segment that still requires data for planning and management. Aimed to present the potential of the Geographic Information System (GIS) to improve outdoor tourism in the North of Portugal. To achieve this purpose, a case study was conducted on developing a Web-GIS in Northern Portugal. Methodology: Four steps were followed to develop the GIS tool with information about outdoor tourism in the North of Portugal. In the first step, municipalities in the North of Portugal sent information about outdoor activities. In the second step, the data were georeferenced and associated. In the last step, a Web-GIS was developed. Findings: The development of tools is an important source of support for tourism. This study identified that a tool such as the GIS could support a destination's decision-making and promotional processes, besides providing detailed information to the tourist and facilitating travel planning. Practical implications: GIS provides effective planning of outdoor tourism, once this tool allows an effective search of the tourist offer and, from the tourist's perspective, relevant suggestions of visits according to their location are presented, facilitating their experience in the region. Originality: Several studies relate to GIS and tourism, but there is still a gap in specific studies on outdoor activities. So, this study presents the importance of GIS to improve outdoor tourism in the North region of Portugal. Understanding this importance is essential in planning and managing tourism, helping further policymaking and marketing strategies.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Therapeutic Approaches for Alzheimer’s Disease: New Perspectives

    Get PDF
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) was defined as a neurodegenerative disorder, being more affected in the elderly. It is estimated that every 3.2 seconds a person in the world is affected by the high disease that rate in 2050 to 1 second. Therefore, research has been carried out on new therapeutic approaches, such as Transcranial Photobiomodulation and treatment based on antioxidants, such as Resveratrol. Therefore, the objective is to conduct a literature review on these two approaches and their effects on the treatment of AD. It was carried out according to the PRISMA recommendation and the articles were selected according to the years of publication (between 2015 and 2020) and extracted from the following databases: Science Direct, PubMed PMC, Scopus, PubMed NCBI, SciELO, LILACS, MEDLINE and PEDro. In several studies it has been reported that both therapies provide improvements at the molecular and behavioral level, recovering brain functions, acting in a neuroprotective way, improving quality of life, with few adverse effects and in a less invasive way. Thus, both treatments have numerous benefits that can be useful in the treatment of AD. However, there is a need for further research that includes interventions with greater specificity and control, so that they are defined as ideal doses and treatment protocols

The influence of social networks (SN) on destination selection was studied as part of tourism management/marketing strategy. It also presented the new extension of technology acceptance model (TAM), considering the constructs of perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU) attitude towards the use (ATU), perceived enjoyment (PE), e-word-of-mouth (eWOM) and previous influence factors (PIF) to assess tourists' behavioural intention (BI) towards the use of SN for choosing the tourism destination. For such, we performed confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the hypotheses were tested by structural equation modelling (SEM). Logistic regression was conducted to explain the influence of SN on choosing and finding destination information. Of all the respondents, 66.5% had used SN to get information or decide on their tourist destination. Facebook and Instagram exhibited greater impact on tourist destination selection than LinkedIn. The results provided insights for marketers, governments and tourism related organisations.B913-0565-0908 | Elvira Vieirainfo:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    No full text
