Radio emission of SN1993J. The complete picture: II. Simultaneous fit of expansion and radio light curves

We report on a simultaneous modelling of the expansion and radio light curves of SN1993J. We have developed a simulation code capable of generating synthetic expansion and radio light curves of supernovae by taking into consideration the evolution of the expanding shock, magnetic fields, and relativistic electrons, as well as the finite sensitivity of the interferometric arrays used in the observations. Our software successfully fits all the available radio data of SN 1993J with an standard emission model for supernovae extended with some physical considerations, as an evolution in the opacity of the ejecta material, a radial drop of the magnetic fields inside the radiating region, and a changing radial density profile of the circumstellar medium beyond day 3100 after explosion.Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures, accepted for publication in A&

Reflexiones Sobre la Terminologia Lingüístico-Gramatical

En este trabajo medito sobre la necesidad de actividad metaterminológica en el ámbito lingüístico; para ello, discrimino, inicialmente, el significado de los vocablos nomenclatura y terminología, conceptos que abarcan realidades designativas muy diferentes, describo algunas posturas metodológicas y epistemológicas de ausencia y presencia de reflexión metaterminológica en el uso de la terminología gramatical por parte de gramáticos-lingüistas; analizo algunas propuestas significativas en tomo a los requisitos científicos y pedagógicos que debe cumplir toda la terminología gramatical y, finalmente, hago observaciones sobre la situación de la metaterminología en la enseñanza de la gramática (lengua materna y lengua extranjera).In this paper I think out the need of metaterminological work in the linguistic field, to do this, I discern first the meaning of the words nomenclature and terminology, notions who contain different designative states of affaires; I describe some methodological and epistemological attitudes of absence and presence on metaterminological inquiries into the use of the grammatical terminology by grammarians; I inquire into the meaningful proposals about the scientific and pedagogic conditions that grammatical terminology must observe and, finally, I notice the situation of the metaterminology in the teaching of grammar (in mother and foreing languages).Dans ce travail je médite sur la nécessité d'activité métaterminologique dans le champ de la linguistique; pour cela, je discrimine d'abord le signifié des mots nomenclature et terminologie, notions qui comprennent réalités désignatives très différentes; je décris quelques attitudes méthodologiques et épistémologiques dans l'emploi de la terminologie grammatical chez les grammairiens; j'examine certaines propositions significatives autour des conditions scientifiques et pédagogiques que toute terminologie grammatical doit remplir et, finalement, je rends compte de la situation de la métaterminologie dans l'enseignement de la grammaire (langue maternelle et langue étrangère)

Informo de dos estudios de Amado Alonso poco conocidos y recuperados ahora para su conocimiento. Hago un análisis crítico y bibliográfico de los dos estudios en la obra del filólogo navarro y en las referencias bibliográficas de la obra de Amado Alonso. Edito, en segunda edición, los textos de los dos artículos.I report on two little known studies by Amado Alonso which have been now retrieved. I analyze, from a critical and bibliographical point of view, these two studies, in Amado Alonso’s works and in their bibliographical references. Comparing MapReduce and pipeline implementations for counting triangles

A common method to define a parallel solution for a computational problem consists in finding a way to use the Divide and Conquer paradigm in order to have processors acting on its own data and scheduled in a parallel fashion. MapReduce is a programming model that follows this paradigm, and allows for the definition of efficient solutions by both decomposing a problem into steps on subsets of the input data and combining the results of each step to produce final results. Albeit used for the implementation of a wide variety of computational problems, MapReduce performance can be negatively affected whenever the replication factor grows or the size of the input is larger than the resources available at each processor. In this paper we show an alternative approach to implement the Divide and Conquer paradigm, named dynamic pipeline. The main features of dynamic pipelines are illustrated on a parallel implementation of the well-known problem of counting triangles in a graph. This problem is especially interesting either when the input graph does not fit in memory or is dynamically generated. To evaluate the properties of pipeline, a dynamic pipeline of processes and an ad-hoc version of MapReduce are implemented in the language Go, exploiting its ability to deal with channels and spawned processes. An empirical evaluation is conducted on graphs of different topologies, sizes, and densities. Observed results suggest that dynamic pipelines allows for an efficient implementation of the problem of counting triangles in a graph, particularly, in dense and large graphs, drastically reducing the execution time with respect to the MapReduce implementation.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Radio detection of the young binary HD 160934

Precise determination of dynamical masses of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars is essential to calibrate stellar evolution models that are widely used to derive theoretical masses of young low-mass objects. Binary stars in young, nearby loose associations are particularly good candidates for this calibration since all members share a common age. Interestingly, some of these young binaries present a persistent and compact radio emission, which makes them excellent targets for astrometric VLBI studies. We aim to monitor the orbital motion of the binary system HD 160934, a member of the AB Doradus moving group. We observed HD 160934 with the Very Large Array and the European VLBI Network at 8.4 and 5 GHz, respectively. The orbital information derived from these observations was analyzed along with previously reported orbital measurements. We show that the two components of the binary, HD 160934 A and HD 160934 c, display compact radio emission at VLBI scales, providing precise information on the relative orbit. Revised orbital elements were estimated. Future VLBI monitoring of this pair should determine precise model-independent mass estimates for the A and c components, which will serve as calibration tests for PMS evolutionary models.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in A&

Multi-wavelength differential astrometry of the S5 polar cap sample

We report on the status of our S5 polar cap astrometry program. Since 1997 we have observed all the 13 radio sources of the complete S5 polar cap sample at the wavelengths of 3.6 cm, 2 cm and 7 mm. Images of the radio sources at 3.6 and 2 cm have already been published reporting morphological changes. Preliminary astrometric analyses have been carried out at three frequencies with precisions in the relative position determination ranging from 80 to 20 microarcseconds. We report also on the combination of our phase-delay global astrometry results with the microarcsecond-precise optical astrometry that will be provided by future space-based instruments.Comment: 2 pages. 1 figure. Una propuesta multimétodo para un abordaje transaccional del espacio público en la escala de barrio

La perspectiva transaccional resulta muy atractiva para analizar y actuar sobre el espacio público en la escala de barrio. Sin embargo, las diferencias metodológicas y de lenguaje entre las distintas disciplinas implicadas lo hacen bastante complejo. En este artículo se presenta una estrategia cualitativa de análisis multimétodo, como una propuesta que integra los diferentes lenguajes gráficos y textuales que dominan en los análisis unidisciplinares del espacio público, a través de un trabajo de espacialización gráfica de resultados. Se triangularon diversas técnicas y se sometieron a un mismo proceso analítico (Grounded Theory), lo que apoyado por los programas de procesamiento Atlas/ti y Arcgis hicieron posible ligar aspectos gráficos (mapas e imágenes) con observaciones de los investigadores y narraciones biográficas de los participantes, asociando de esta manera, espacios físicos concretos con la evolución y construcción de significados y usos espaciales.The transactional perspective is very attractive in order to analyze and intervene in public space on neighborhood scale. However, language and methodological differences between the various disciplines involved make it quite complex. In this article we present a multi-method qualitative strategy of analysis, integrating various results graphically, in an attempt to bring together the graphic and textual languages that dominate single-discipline approaches of public space. Diverse techniques were triangulated and underwent the same analytical process (Grounded Theory), supported by Atlas / ti and Arcgis software. Using this techniques it was possible to link graphic aspects (maps and images) with comments from researchers and biographical accounts of the participants. Predicting global e-entrepreneurship : an exploratory study

Globalization provides international career opportunities and options, such as entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship education is currently promoted in both national and European educational strategies. For university students, the viability of this career option depends on their own motivations, perceived competencies, and professional objectives. This study uses a structural equations model analyses the factors that affect the intention to create an international company. It focuses on how intercultural skills, cognitive cultural intelligence, entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and linguistic competence affects students' motivation to create a company with an international vocation. The results of the study show that proficiency in a foreign language, language competence, and entrepreneurial self-efficacy are relevant factors. The research also discusses the implications of these results for teaching in higher education institutions. There is a need to update graduates' employability skills and the competences that future teachers must acquire.La globalització brinda oportunitats i opcions professionals internacionals, com l'emprenedoria global. L'educació en emprenedoria es promociona tant en les estratègies educatives nacionals com en les europees. Això ha suposat que en els darrers anys l'interès per promoure l'educació en emprenedoria hagi augmentat. Per als estudiants universitaris la viabilitat d'aquesta opció de carrera depèn de les seves pròpies motivacions, de les competències percebudes i dels objectius professionals. El present estudi analitza, a través d'un model d'equacions estructurals, els factors que afecten la intenció de crear una empresa internacional. En particular, se centra en com les competències interculturals, les habilitats cognitives culturals, l'autoeficàcia emprenedora i les competències lingüístiques afecten la motivació dels estudiants per crear una empresa amb vocació internacional. Els resultats de l'estudi realitzat mostren que tant el domini d'una tercera llengua com les habilitats del llenguatge i l'autoeficàcia emprenedora són factors rellevants. La recerca també discuteix les implicacions d'aquests resultats per a l'ensenyament en les institucions d'educació superior. És necessari actualitzar les competències per a l'ocupabilitat dels graduats i també les competències que els futurs docents han d'adquirir.La globalización brinda oportunidades y opciones profesionales internacionales, como el emprendimiento. El presente estudio analiza, a través de un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales, los factores que afectan a la intención de crear una empresa internacional. En particular, se centra en cómo las competencias interculturales, las habilidades cognitivas culturales, la autoeficacia emprendedora y las competencias lingüísticas afectan la motivación de los estudiantes para crear una empresa con vocación internacional. Los resultados del estudio realizado muestran que tanto el dominio de una tercera lengua como las habilidades del lenguaje y la autoeficacia emprendedora son factores relevantes. La investigación también discute las implicaciones de estos resultados para la enseñanza en las instituciones de educación superior. Es necesario actualizar las competencias para la ocupabilidad de los graduados y también las competencias que los futuros docentes deben adquirir
