Health insurance in Zaire

This study of health insurance systems in Zaire was carried out as part of a larger program of initiatives designed to improve the sustainability of health care systems and increase the health status of the Zairian population. This paper presents the objectives of the study and a discussion of the economic aspects of health insurance, background information about the health sector and health financing systems in Zaire and highlights of previous related work. The major motivations for this study were: (a) to provide information for the ongoing social sector adjustment dialogue in Zaire; and (b) to serve as a case study in the World Bank's Region Study of Health Finance. Specifically, the study sought to document different types of insurance systems in Zaire, and to conduct in-depth case studies of several schemes. The in-depth case studies presented in this report evaluate the design, management operational efficiency of four health insurance programs from both rural and urban areas. The case studies also attempt to analyze the effects of insurance on equity of access, utilization of health care services, and mobilization of financial resources for the health sector. From these analyses, the report draws conclusions about the advantages and disadvantages of health insurance programs as a means of financing health care services in Zaire, and suggests avenues for future research, policy, and programming initiatives.Health Monitoring&Evaluation,Insurance Law,Health Economics&Finance,Insurance&Risk Mitigation,Health Systems Development&Reform

N=1 Super Yang-Mills Domain Walls via The Extended Veneziano Yankielowicz Theory

We investigate the vacuum structure of pure SU(N) N=1 super Yang-Mills. The theory is expected to possess N vacua with associated domain walls. We show that the newly extended version of the low energy effective Lagrangian for super Yang-Mills supports the BPS domain wall solutions associated with any two vacua aligned with the origin of the moduli space. For the two color theory the domain wall analysis is complete. We also find new non BPS domain wall solutions connecting any two vacua of the underling SU(N) super Yang-Mills theory not necessarely aligned. When two vacua are aligned with the origin of the moduli space these solutions are the BPS ones. We also discuss the generic BPS domain wall solutions connecting any two vacua within the extended Veneziano-Yankielowicz theory.Comment: 25 pages, 5 figures plain Late

This article analyzes the changes in the structure and trade of sugar and alcohol production at Center-South region of Brazil in the 90s. The data demonstrate that this sector showed a process of great product differentiation and modernization in their plants over the past 10 years. It is not just a 'Sugarcane Complex' given the enormous diversity of production units, mix of products and forms of commercialization which are related to this sector. Since the de-regulation, specific and heterogeneous segments appeared. We propose that the difficulties faced for a possible implementation of a whole intervention policy has occurred in the former period. Awareness of children about rational use of water: an approach basing on serious game

The water shortage expectation in a near future proves that the worldpopulation must be mobilized, as soon as possible, to face the problem of the water waste in daily activities. This paper presents the development of a web serious game to teach children about that problem which already affecting lives of many people around the world. We believe that education could be the better tool to change cultural habits and, in this way, the bigger awareness and a better use of hydric resources

Multiple vacua in two-dimensional Yang-Mills theory

Two-dimensional SU(N) Yang-Mills theory is endowed with a non-trivial vacuum structure (k-sectors). The presence of k-sectors modifies the energy spectrum of the theory and its instanton content, the (Euclidean) space-time being compactified on a sphere. For the exact solution, in the limit in which the sphere is decompactified, a k-sector can be mimicked by the presence of k-fundamental charges at infinity, according to a Witten's suggestion.
