The Structure of the Set of Equilibria for Two Person Multicriteria Games
In this paper the structure of the set of equilibria for two person multicriteria games is analysed. It turns out that the classical result for the set of equilibria for bimatrix games, that it is a finite union of polytopes, is only valid for multicriteria games if one of the players only has two pure strategies. A full polyhedral description of these polytopes can be derived when the player with an arbitrary number of pure strategies has one criterion.game theory;equilibrium theory
Towards an Integrative Formative Approach of Data-Driven Decision Making, Assessment for Learning, and Diagnostic Testing
This study concerns the comparison of three approaches to assessment: Data-Driven Decision Making, Assessment for Learning, and Diagnostic Testing. Although the three approaches claim to be beneficial with regard to student learning, no clear study into the relationships and distinctions between these approaches exists to date. The goal of this study was to investigate the extent to which the three approaches can be shaped into an integrative formative approach towards assessment. The three approaches were compared on nine characteristics of assessment. The results suggest that although the approaches seem to be contradictory with respect to some characteristics, it is argued that they could complement each other despite these differences. Bi-Directional Relativistic Jets of the Radio Galaxy 1946+708: Constraints on the Hubble Constant
We present measurements of bi-directional motions in the jets of the radio
galaxy 1946+708 at z=0.101. This is a Compact Symmetric Object with striking
S-symmetry. Sensitive 15 GHz observations reveal a compact component at the
center of symmetry with a strongly inverted spectrum, that we identify as the
core. From five 4.9 GHz observations spread over 4 years we have determined the
velocities of four compact jet components. If simple kinematic models can be
applied then the inclination of the source and the bulk jet velocity can be
directly determined for any assumed value of the Hubble constant. Conversely,
the measurements already place constraints on the Hubble constant, and we show
how further observations of 1946+708 can yield an increasingly accurate

SS433's accretion disc, wind and jets: before, during and after a major flare
The Galactic microquasar SS433 occasionally exhibits a major flare when the
intensity of its emission increases significantly and rapidly. We present an
analysis of high-resolution, almost-nightly optical spectra obtained before,
during and after a major flare, whose complex emission lines are deconstructed
into single gaussians and demonstrate the different modes of mass loss in the
SS433 system. During our monitoring, an initial period of quiescence was
followed by increased activity which culminated in a radio flare. In the
transition period the accretion disc of SS433 became visible in H-alpha and HeI
emission lines and remained so until the observations were terminated; the
line-of-sight velocity of the centre of the disc lines during this time behaved
as though the binary orbit has significant eccentricity rather than being
circular, consistent with three recent lines of evidence. After the accretion
disc appeared its rotation speed increased steadily from 500 to 700 km/s. The
launch speed of the jets first decreased then suddenly increased. At the same
time as the jet launch speed increased, the wind from the accretion disc
doubled in speed. Two days afterwards, the radio flux exhibited a flare. These
data suggest that a massive ejection of material from the companion star loaded
the accretion disc and the system responded with mass loss via different modes
that together comprise the flare phenomena. We find that archival data reveal
similar behaviour, in that when the measured jet launch speed exceeds 0.29c
this is invariably simultaneous with, or a few days before, a radio flare. Thus
we surmise that a major flare consists of the overloading of the accretion
disc, resulting in the speeding up of the H-alpha rotation disc lines, followed
by enhanced mass loss not just via its famous jets at higher-than-usual speeds
but also directly from its accretion disc's wind.Comment: Accepted by MNRA
Chest CT scoring for evaluation of lung sequelae in congenital diaphragmatic hernia survivors
Objectives Data on long-term structural lung abnormalities in survivors of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is scarce. The purpose of this study was to develop a chest computed tomography (CT) score to assess the structural lung sequelae in CDH survivors and to study the correlation between the CT scoring and clinical parameters in the neonatal period and at 1 year of follow-up. Methods A prospective, clinical follow-up program is organised for CDH survivors at the University Hospital of Leuven including a chest CT at the age of 1 year. The CT scoring used and evaluated, named CDH-CT score, was adapted from the revised Aukland score for chronic lung disease of prematurity. Results Thirty-five patients were included. All CT scans showed some pulmonary abnormalities, ranging from very mild to severe. The mean total CT score was 16 (IQR: 9-23), with the greatest contribution from the subscores for decreased attenuation (5; IQR: 2-8), subpleural linear and triangular opacities (4; IQR: 3-5), and atelectasis/consolidation (2; IQR: 1-3). Interobserver and intraobserver agreement was very good for the total score (ICC coefficient > 0.9). Total CT score correlated with number of neonatal days ventilated/on oxygen as well as with respiratory symptoms and feeding problems at 1 year of age. Conclusion The CDH-CT scoring tool has a good intraobserver and interobserver repeatability and correlates with relevant clinical parameters. This holds promise for its use in clinical follow-up and as outcome parameter in clinical interventional studies
