Differential Hanbury-Brown-Twiss for an exact hydrodynamic model with rotation
We study an exact rotating and expanding solution of the fluid dynamical
model of heavy ion reactions, that take into account the rate of slowing down
of the rotation due to the longitudinal and transverse expansion of the system.
The parameters of the model are set on the basis of realistic 3+1D fluid
dynamical calculation at TeV energies, where the rotation is enhanced by the
build up of the Kelvin Helmholtz Instability in the flow.Comment: 4 Pages, 7 figures, to be published in PR
Two particle correlation effects and Differential HBT for rotation in heavy ion collisions
Peripheral heavy ion reactions at ultra relativistic energies have large
angular momentum that can be studied via two particle correlations using the
Differential Hanbury Brown and Twiss method. We analyze the possibilities and
sensitivity of the method in a rotating system. We also study an expanding
solution of the fluid dynamical model of heavy ion reactions.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures. Proceedings of the WPCF 2014 workshop,

Generic approach for deriving reliability and maintenance requirements through consideration of in-context customer objectives
Not all implementations of reliability are equally effective at providing customer and user benefit. Random system failure with no prior warning or failure accommodation will have an immediate, usually adverse impact on operation. Nevertheless, this approach to reliability, implicit in measurements such as ‘failure rate’ and ‘MTBF’, is widely assumed without consideration of potential benefits of pro-active maintenance. Similarly, it is easy to assume that improved maintainability is always a good thing. However, maintainability is only one option available to reduce cost of ownership and reduce the impact of failure. This paper discusses a process for deriving optimised reliability and maintenance requirements through consideration of in-context
customer objectives rather than a product in isolation
Differential HBT Applied to Relativistic Fluid Dynamics
The earlier introduced Differential HBT method aiming for detecting rotation
is used to analyze the fluid dynamical model results of ultra-relativistic
heavy ion reactions where the initial state has substantial angular momentum.
The rotation effect and Kelvin Helmholtz Instability, lead to space-time
momentum correlations, which can be detected by the method
Scarcely visible? Analysing initial teacher education research and the Research Excellence Framework
In the UK, the Research Excellence Framework is a mechanism used for ranking the quality of research in higher education institutions. While there has been analysis of the entire Research Excellence Framework, and of the Education unit of assessment more generally, analysis of how research on initial teacher education featured in the Research Excellence Framework has been minimal. In this article, we report on Phase I of an 18-month project that mapped the extent to which initial teacher education-focused research was included in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. Employing a novel methodology and a theoretical framework based on policy as text and discourse, we identify a sample of 12 higher education institutions that provided initial teacher education programmes and returned outputs to the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. Analysis of over 1,600 outputs suggest that in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework only 5.5 per cent of these were focused on initial teacher education. We discuss the methodological approach, some headline findings and areas for future research, arguing that these add evidence to the literature of initial teacher education-focused research and, in doing so, can inform policy at the levels of schools, higher education institutions, Research Excellence Framework and the government. We conclude that although the Research Excellence Framework only concerns the UK, similar exercises are becoming increasingly prevalent globally, and therefore the extent to which research on initial teacher education was marginalised in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework is of interest to all concerned with teacher education
