Uniform cost accounting system for manufacturing implements and other farm operating equipment

    Get PDF
The Association has had presented to it for several years the necessity for a uniform accounting system and for an accurate cost system, and we do not need to repeat the arguments advanced and the reasons given therefor. The present abnormal prices of materials, with increased costs in other directions, seem to make this an opportune time for the Association to adopt a uniform accounting system for manufacturers of implements and other farm operating equipment. We, therefore, submit herewith a simple system which we recommend to the Association, particularly for the guidance of organizations not already supplied with an adequate or satisfactory cost system

Piloting sidewalk Delivery Robots in Pittsburgh, Miami-Dade County, Detroit, and San Jose

30 pagesThe Knight Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Initiative is a multi-year collaborative effort between the Urbanism Next Center at the University of Oregon, Cityfi, the cities of Detroit, Pittsburgh, and San José, and Miami-Dade County (the “cohort”) to pilot and learn about automated mobility technologies today to shape the future of deployment tomorrow. This cohort partnered with Kiwibot to learn more about a new technology—sidewalk delivery robots. Through this partnership, Kiwibot tested different use cases and collaborated on community engagement opportunities in each locale. Given the proliferation of bills being passed by state legislatures legalizing deployment of personal delivery devices (PDDs) or sidewalk robots, and the increased delivery demand due to the pandemic, the pilots were well timed to able to meaningfully inform the cohort cities about the potential benefits and challenges of sidewalk delivery robots

Shared automated mobility : the legal and governance considerations

    Get PDF
Automated vehicle technology is a fast-growing phenomenon which has, in recent years, found itself at the forefront of research projects being carried out in jurisdictions all over the world, and is a vital component to the modern revolution of the transport sector in the race against climate change. However, attaining a world with driverless cars and digital infrastructure, which eliminates the role of the driver, requires a detailed study from multiple aspects, including from a legal and governance perspective. A holistic, proportionate, and harmonised approach towards a dedicated body of legislation, which strikes the right balance between safeguarding consumers and a free market, is crucial to reaping the full potential of this technology, as the demand for alternative mobility solutions increases. This paper considers the legal impacts, which automated vehicles are expected to have on mobility, analysing in particular the challenges posed, the adequacy of existing legal systems, and the improvements that need to be made, on the basis of international research, with a particular focus on Malta. Project MISAM (Malta’s Introduction of Shared Autonomous Mobility) was launched specifically for the purpose of assessing the viability of enabling the use of automated vehicles in Malta, including from a legal and governance perspective.Project MISAM (REP-2020-017) is financed by Malta Council for Science & Technology, for and on behalf of the Foundation for Science and Technology, through the FUSION: R&I Research Excellence Programme.peer-reviewe

Development of Discrete Size Measurement Methodologies for Motorcycle Helmets

    Get PDF
FMVSS No. 218 defines the discrete size of a motorcycle helmet and requires it on the label; however, it does not specify how to measure the size. In addition, there is no standard procedure for determining the helmet positioning index (HPI) used to align the helmet on the headform for measurements and testing. This research developed procedures to determine HPI and to measure discrete size of motorcycle helmets. Four methods for measuring discrete size and one method for determining the HPI were developed and evaluated

The effects of instruction and environmental demand on state anxiety, driving performance and autonomic activity: Are ego-threatening manipulations effective?

    Get PDF
A small yet emerging body of research on the relationship between anxiety and driving suggests that higher levels of state anxiety may lead to more dangerous driving behaviours. The aim of the current research was to investigate the effects of increased state anxiety on driving behaviours within a simulated environment using instructional sets to manipulate anxiety levels. In Study One, whilst a set of safety-related instructions were able to increase state anxiety, this did not result in changes to driving behaviours. In Study Two, ego-threatening instructions were not able to successfully increase state anxiety. This has implications regarding instructional sets in research, including their task relevance and the necessity for a motivational incentive. However, when changes in anxiety were considered regardless of instruction group, Study Two found changes in SDLP and skin conductance levels related to state anxiety increases. As these effects were context specific, it is argued that some of these changes may be due to poorer processing efficiency, leading to suggestions about the types of behaviours that may need to be trained in potential therapies for those who show high state anxiety levels whilst driving
