Integral equations of scattering in one dimension
A self-contained discussion of integral equations of scattering is presented
in the case of centrally-symmetric potentials in one dimension, which will
facilitate the understanding of more complex scattering integral equations in
two and three dimensions. The present discussion illustrates in a simple
fashion the concept of partial-wave decomposition, Green's function,
Lippmann-Schwinger integral equations of scattering for wave function and
transition operator, optical theorem and unitarity relation. We illustrate the
present approach with a Dirac delta potential.Comment: 12 pages, accepted in American Journal of Physic
Spivaks Strategic Essentialism Reading on Amy Tans The Red Candle
This paper analyzes the struggle of a Chinese-American woman in The Red Candle, one of the vignettes in Amy Tans novel The Joy Luck Club (1989). The main character namely Lindo Jong, is confined with patriarchy and tradition and is forced to marry her fiance at her teenage. Fascinatingly, Lindo can free herself from the arranged marriage and her oppressive new family by a clever scheme. Spivaks strategic essentialism is then applied to scrutinize this particular issue. Indeed, by strategic essentialism, Lindo still upholds her value as a Chinese woman and her respect to her filial piety, also, she can obtain her own independence as a woman. Keywords: Chinese-American woman, patriarchy, tradition, strategic essentialis
CA19-9 as a Potential Target for Radiolabeled Antibody-Based Positron Emission Tomography of Pancreas Cancer.
Introduction. Sensitive and specific imaging of pancreas cancer are necessary for accurate diagnosis, staging, and treatment. The vast majority of pancreas cancers express the carbohydrate tumor antigen CA19-9. The goal of this study was to determine the potential to target CA19-9 with a radiolabeled anti-CA19-9 antibody for imaging pancreas cancer. Methods. CA19-9 was quantified using flow cytometry on human pancreas cancer cell lines. An intact murine anti-CA19-9 monoclonal antibody was labeled with a positron emitting radionuclide (Iodine-124) and injected into mice harboring antigen positive and negative xenografts. MicroPET/CT were performed at successive time intervals (72 hours, 96 hours, 120 hours) after injection. Radioactivity was measured in blood and tumor to provide objective confirmation of the images. Results. Antigen expression by flow cytometry revealed approximately 1.3 × 10(6) CA19-9 antigens for the positive cell line and no expression in the negative cell line. Pancreas xenograft imaging with Iodine-124-labeled anti-CA19-9 mAb demonstrated an average tumor to blood ratio of 5 and positive to negative tumor ratio of 20. Conclusion. We show in vivo targeting of our antigen positive xenograft with a radiolabeled anti-CA19-9 antibody. These data demonstrate the potential to achieve anti-CA19-9 antibody based positron emission tomography of pancreas cancer
Perancangan Buku Ilustrasi Untuk Memperkenalkan Batik Tulis Khas Kota Kudus
Dalam sejarahnya, batik Kudus sempat terlupakan selama puluhan tahun. Sekitar tahun 2000-an, batik Kudus kembali diproduksi dan dipasarkan.
Ante el crecimiento acelerado de la oferta educativa de nivel superior privado en México, las universidades se han visto en la necesidad de crear estrategias de innovación que les permitan diferenciarse con el objetivo de lograr una mayor captación de alumnado. Actualmente el ITESO, la universidad Jesuita de Guadalajara, desde su oficina de admisión se encuentra en la búsqueda de nuevas oportunidades de mejora en sus servicios. Por lo anterior, el presente trabajo se propone: desarrollar una propuesta de mejora en la calidad del servicio de la oficina de admisión del ITESO, específicamente en su área de atención, e identificar los puntos de contacto claves y aumentar la eficiencia en la captación y retención de aspirantes durante el proceso de admisión; establecer la línea base de calidad del proceso de admisión; identificar las actividades que no agregan valor; detectar en qué parte del trámite los aspirantes abandonan el proceso de admisión y las razones principales para hacerlo; redefinir las estrategias utilizadas para lograr la retención de los aspirantes;
replicar el proyecto en áreas que estén involucradas directamente en el proceso de admisión del aspirante.ITESO, A.C

Identification of transverse crack position and depth in rotor systems
This paper introduces a method for the identification of the position and the depth of a transverse crack in a rotor system, by using vibration measurements. As it is reported in literature and from field experience, a transverse crack modifies the dynamic behaviour of the rotor, generating in a horizontal axis shaft periodical vibrations with 1x, 2x and 3x rev. components. A model based diagnostic approach and a least squares identification method in the frequency domain are used for the crack localisation along the rotor. The crack depth is calculated by comparing the static bending moment, due to the rotor weight and to the bearing alignment conditions, to the identified “equivalent” periodical bending moment, which simulates the crack. Finally, the validation of the proposed method is carried out statically and dynamically by means of experimental results obtained on a test rig
Squeeze Film Damper Modeling: A Comprehensive Approach
Squeeze film dampers (SFDs) are components used in many industrial applications, ranging
from turbochargers to jet engines. SFDs are applied when the vibration levels or some instability
threatens the safe operation of the machine. However, modeling these components is difficult and
somewhat counterintuitive due to the multiple complex phenomena involved. After a thorough
investigation of the state of the art, the most relevant phenomena for the characterization of the SFDs
are highlighted. Among them, oil film cavitation, air ingestion, and inertia are investigated and
modeled. The paper then introduces a numerical model based on the Reynolds equation, discretized
with the finite difference method. Different boundary conditions for oil feeding and discharging are
implemented and investigated. The model is validated by means of experimental results available in
the literature, whereas different designs and configurations of the feeding and sealing system are
considered. Eventually, an example of the application of a SFD to a compressor rotor for the reduction
of vibration and correction of the instability is proposed. The paper provides an insight regarding the
critical aspects of modeling SFDs, underscoring the limits of the numerical model, and suggesting
where to further develop and improve the modeling
Planning strategies for inter-fractional robustness in pancreatic patients treated with scanned carbon therapy
Background: Managing inter-fractional anatomy changes is a challenging task in radiotherapy of pancreatic tumors, especially in scanned carbon-ion delivery. This treatment planning study aims to focus on clinically feasible solutions, such as the beam angle selection and margin design to increase the robustness against inter-fractional uncertainties. Methods: This study included 10 patients with weekly 3D-CT imaging and physician-approved Clinical Target Volume (CTV). The study was directed to keep the CTV-coverage using six beam angle configurations in combination with different Internal Target Volume (ITV) concepts. These were: geometric-margin (symmetric 3 and 5 mm margin); range-equivalent margins with an isotropic HU replacement; and to evaluate the need of asymmetric margins the water-equivalent range path (WEPL) was determined per patient from the set of CTs. Plan optimization and forward dose calculation in each week-CT were performed with the research treatment planning system TRiP98 and the plan quality evaluated in terms of CTV coverage (V95CTV) and homogeneity dose (HCTV = D5-D95). Results: The beam geometry had a substantial impact on the target irradiation over the treatment course, with the single posterior or two beams showing the best average coverage of the CTV. The use of geometric margins for the more robust beam geometries showed acceptable results, with a V95CTV of (99.2 ± 1.2)% for the 5 mm-margin. For the non-robust configurations, due to substantial changes in the radiological depth, the use of this margin results in a V95CTV that might be below 80%, only showing improvement when the range changes are included. Conclusions: Selection of adequate beam configurations and treatment margins in ion-beam therapy of pancreatic tumors is of great importance. For a single posterior beam or two beam configurations, application of geometrical margins compensate for dose degradation induced by inter-fractional anatomy changes for the majority of the analyzed treatment fractions
