Human Rights Abuses in 1970s Argentina
In this paper I address various components to the human rights abuses in Argentina in the 1970s. The domestic political situation is analyzed with particular attention paid to the political culture and the history of the regime. Media outlets and interviews by victims are used to facilitate first-hand accounts of the regime. The international arena and the efforts of human rights groups are mentioned as a means to demonstrate the international implications of the regime. I wrote this paper to further my knowledge on human rights abuses and further the knowledge of all who read my attempt. This essay marks my first literary attempt to delve into the content rich documents of the era
Load Flow Analysis of 138/69kV Substation Using Electrical Transient & Analysis Program (ETAP)
This paper examines the load flow analysis of a high-voltage substation using ETAP, and explores options for improving the voltage profile of the system. This study yields critical information about the system, such as the voltage drop at each feeder, the voltage at each bus, as well as real and reactive power losses at the different branches and feeders. In this power flow examination, the system’s performance is evaluated for different operating conditions, so that control measurements can be applied if necessary. The experimental results are used for proposing a plan of using fixed and switched shunt capacitor banks to improve the voltage stability of the substation. Distribution systems include inductive loads along with transformers and transmission lines, which account for quite significant power loss due to lagging current. The introduction of strategically sized and positioned shunt capacitors within the distribution system, helps to counteract losses due to inductive elements and improves the voltage profile of the network. The problem of capacitor allocation includes the location, type (fixed or switched), and size of capacitor. To determine the sizing of the shunt capacitor bank necessary to compensate inductive effect of the loads, power flow equations are used along with the ETAP simulation results. The results obtained in the load flow analysis will be substituted into these equations to perform a power factor correction. Overall, the purpose of this paper is to use the ETAP software to analyze the load flow operation of the substation, and perform the necessary adjustments so that it meets the National Standards for Electrical Power Systems
From Nuisance to Environmental Protection in Continental Europe
This paper analyzes the evolution and complexity of the legal response to neighboring conflicts in European civil law countries. All of the civil codes analyzed (France, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, and Catalonia) are based on Roman Law rules that are not always clear. The fuzziness of those Roman Law rules explains, in part, why despite this common origin, the Civil Codes did not respond homogeneously to nuisances. The first subsection briefly describes the institution of nuisance in Roman Law. Then, the paper describes the original codification of nuisance and the changes in the treatment of this institution. After assessing the initial divergence and the trends towards similar rules across jurisdictions, the paper explains the potential forces of convergence at the European level: the Draft Common Frame of Reference, the European Union Environmental Liability Directive, and the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights. It is important to note that this article only focuses on regulations and remedies related to non-trespassory invasions on real property, not on non-invasive, aesthetic nuisances
Aliskiren and the dual complement inhibition concept
In this issue of Clinical Kidney Journal, Plasse et al. report on the use of high-dose aliskiren as an adjunct therapy in a patient
treated with eculizumab for haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS). This follows the recent description of the complement
factor 3 (C3) activating activity of the enzyme renin and the successful therapeutic use of the direct renin inhibitor aliskiren
in three cases of C3 glomerulopathy/dense deposit disease. We discuss the potential clinical and pathophysiological
implications of these reports on nephropathies linked to complement, from HUS to C3 glomerulopathy to immunoglobulin

Tesi
Association between meteorological factors and hepatitis A in Spain 2010-2014
BACKGROUND: There is growing concern of how climate change could affect public health, due to the increase number of extreme climate events. Hence, the study of the role that climate events play on the distribution of waterborne diseases, like Hepatitis A, could be key for developing new prevention approaches. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between climate factors and Hepatitis A in Spain between 2010 and 2014. METHODS: Weekly Hepatitis A cases between 2010 and 2014 were obtained from the Spanish Epidemiology Surveillance Network. Climate variables (weekly cumulative rainfall, rainy days, storm days and snow days) were obtained from National Climatic Data Center (NOAA satellite and information Service of USA). Each municipality was assigned to the nearest weather station (N=73). A Mixed-Effects Poisson regression was performed to estimate Incidence Rate Ratios (IRR), including a time lag of 2, 3 and 4weeks (most probable incubation period for Hepatitis A). RESULTS: Rainfall higher than 90th percentile (extreme precipitation) was associated with increased number of Hepatitis A cases 2weeks (IRR=1.24 CI 95%=1.09-1.40) and 4weeks after the event (IRR=1.15 CI 95%=1.01-1.30). An extra rainy day increased the risk of Hepatitis A two weeks after (IRR=1.03 CI 95%=1.01-1.05). We found higher risk of Hepatitis A two weeks after each extra storm day (IRR=1.06 CI 95%=1.00-1.12), and lower risk with 3 and 4weeks' lag (IRR=0.93 CI 95%=0.88-0.99 for lag3; IRR=0.94 CI 95%=0.88-0.99 for lag 4). CONCLUSIONS: There is an increased risk of Hepatitis A 2weeks after water-related climate events. Including meteorological information in surveillance systems might improve to develop early prevention strategies for waterborne diseases. This study has been funded by Instituto de Salud Carlos III through the project “PI15/01398” (Co-funded by European Regional Development Fund/European Social Fund “Investing in your future”). Reducing Compassion Fatigue and Burnout Among Nurses
Abstract: A literature review was done between the months of August 2022 and November 2022 to determine if nurses, who utilize hospital sponsored counseling resources or compassion fatigue reduction programs, experience less burnout than nurses who do not. Ten articles were reviewed focusing on services provided to nurses with the intent of reducing burnout and compassion fatigue and improving compassion satisfaction. The purpose was to provide Spencer Hospital, in Spencer Iowa, with viable programs and interventions that combat burnout and compassion fatigue. Results showed, when provided with the opportunity, nurses chose to learn self-care techniques or participate in compassion fatigue and burnout reduction programs. It was found that nurses equipped with self-care tools and services had a higher level of compassion satisfaction which served to mitigate their burnout and compassion fatigue
In 1996, the Guatemalan Government and the guerrilla group Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unit "URNG", signed the so-called Firm and Lasting Peace Agreement, ending 36 years of armed conflict in the country. The Peace Agreement is composed of six fundamental issues and five operative issues, in order to facilitate its compliance and to diminish the economic, social and political causes that originated the conflict. However, a decade later, we find that the reasons for the conflict still exist; among them, the main cause is the insufficient investment in social matters that has existed in Guatemalan history. For that reason, the purpose of this essay is to stress the importance of public investment in education, for the success of foreign trade and the commercial balance of a State.
