The Modified Node Voltage Method as Tool for Calculation of Network Functions and Sensitivities

    Get PDF
The paper deals with the well-known modified node voltage method that is generally used for formulation of system equations in universal network simulation programs. It shows very efficient ways if utilizing this type of equation formulation for evaluation of network transfer functions and their sensitivities to variations of element parameters. The described procedures can be used very effectively namely in connection with some matrix oriented mathematical program like for instance MATLAB. Several illustrative examples support the explanation of the methods described in the paper

Dále popisuji ovládání a funkcnost aplikace. V záveru jsou zhodnoceny dosažené výsledky a popsány další možné smery vývoje programu. The main purpose of my bachelor's thesis was to create the chess computer game software with graphic user interface and to design and develop an algorithm of chess computer with learning ability. It was also necessary to create an interface to the board games manager. In the first part of my work I present the chess game rules and already existing chess game software and specialised chess computers. The next part discusses the mini-max algorithm and other derived algorithms and their possible improvements. The main part of the work deals in description of design and realization of the developed application. The user interface and functionality of the application is also described. In the conclusion the achieved results are summarized and the possible directions of further development of the application are described.

Background: Problem-based learning (PBL) has been endorsed by bodies such as the World Health Organization and Medical Council of India as a solution to both the ills of medical education and new challenges such as clinical governance. This empirical study was undertaken to assess and compare the learning outcomes at various levels of cognitive domain like recall, analysis and comprehension, and application in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBG) course by implementing lecture-based learning (LBL) and problem-based learning methods. It also aimed to assess the students’ satisfaction and opinion about LBL and PBL methods. Methods: Three batches of final year MBBS students of Pushpagiri Medical College Hospital, Thiruvalla, posted in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology during the study period of 6 months were conveniently selected for the study. Each batch of 14 students was divided into 2 groups randomly and two topics of OBG were taught using LBL and PBL methods for both the groups. The peer reviewed tests consisted of ten questions each for both the topics of OBG addressing the various levels of cognitive domain were administered before and after the sessions. After each session the students were also asked to fill the Satisfaction Questionnaire anonymously in order to assess students’ opinions about PBL and LBL methods. Results: The results of the study proved that in comparison to LBL, the PBL method produces better outcomes of recall, analytical and critical thinking in addition to problem solving skills. PBL had been found to be a more effective form of learning method with a greater degree of learning satisfaction and motivation as compared to the conventional LBL method. Conclusions: PBL method is a more effective instructional tool to foster critical thinking and problem solving skills among medical students as compared to the traditional LBL method and students are more satisfied with the PBL method in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Emergency and elective caesarean sections: comparison of maternal and fetal outcomes in a suburban tertiary care hospital in Puducherry

Background: The aim of the current study was to compare the maternal and fetal outcomes of emergency and elective caesarean deliveries. Methods: A prospective case comparative study was conducted at the Government Maternity Hospital, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Puducherry, from August 2005 to July 2006.Results: A total of 301 caesarean deliveries occurred during the study period. The percentages of the primi-gravida as well as the nulli-parous women were significantly higher among emergency caesarean section than that in elective caesarean section (χ2=12.52, P<0.0001). The percentages of previous caesarean sections was significantly higher among those who had elective caesarean than those had emergency caesarean section in the present delivery (χ2=14.73, P=0.0001). Among emergency caesarean section 25.8% had abdominal distension, whereas it was present only in 8.7% of the elective cases. Of the 16 new born with postnatal complications in the emergency group, 14 died, one had convulsion and the remaining one was a stillbirth. In the elective group there were 4 deaths. Conclusions: It was inferred that both elective and emergency caesarean imposes certain complications to the mother and the fetes.  However, maternal and fetal complications were felt very high in emergency caesarean than elective. Proper planning can help obstetric practitioners to avoid complications
