Revisión. Impacto del pastoreo sobre la vegetación en áreas forestales

The depopulation of mountainous areas and the accompanying reduction in livestock that has traditionally grazed on the spontaneous vegetation of these areas, has led to the uncontrolled growth of shrubs and a significant increase in the risk of fire due to the increased availability of combustible fuel. The reintroduction of extensive grazing may be a viable way of ensuring a sustainable ecosystem compatible with the economic and social life of these areas. Modifications to native plant communities as a result of grazing, however, may lead to directional changes in their structure and composition. Thus, knowledge of animal-plant relationships is essential if foresters are to make appropriate management decisions. Current knowledge of these animal-plant interactions is here reviewed, with special attention paid to tolerance mechanisms, the effects of grazing and plant community dynamics.El despoblamiento de las áreas de montaña y con él la disminución del censo ganadero que aprovechaba los recursos vegetales de estas áreas ha dado lugar a una progresiva degradación del pasto y a una invasión incontrolada de la vegetación arbustiva, con el consiguiente incremento de la masa combustible y del riesgo de incendios. La reorientación de la actividad hacia sistemas ganaderos extensivos surge como una alternativa viable para asegurar un ecosistema sostenible y compatible con el mantenimiento de la vida económica y social de estas áreas. Sin embargo, el conjunto de modificaciones que acontecen en la cubierta vegetal, como consecuencia del pastoreo, pueden dar lugar a cambios direccionales en la estructura y composición de la comunidad vegetal. En consecuencia, la comprensión de las relaciones entre animales y plantas es esencial para que el gestor de espacios forestales pueda tomar las decisiones de manejo oportunas al objetivo propuesto. En este trabajo se revisa la información generada sobre la respuesta de la vegetación a la acción del ganado, prestando especial atención a los mecanismos de tolerancia, efectos del pastoreo y dinámica de la comunidad vegetal

Multiphysics model of a rat ventricular myocyte: A voltage-clamp study

Background: The objective of this study is to develop a comprehensive model of the electromechanical behavior of the rat ventricular myocyte to investigate the various factors influencing its contractile response. Methods: Here, we couple a model of Ca2+ dynamics described in our previous work, with a well-known model of contractile mechanics developed by Rice, Wang, Bers and de Tombe to develop a composite multiphysics model of excitation-contraction coupling. This comprehensive cell model is studied under voltage clamp (VC) conditions, since it allows to focus our study on the elaborate Ca2+ signaling system that controls the contractile mechanism. Results: We examine the role of various factors influencing cellular contractile response. In particular, direct factors such as the amount of activator Ca2+ available to trigger contraction and the type of mechanical load applied (resulting in isosarcometric, isometric or unloaded contraction) are investigated. We also study the impact of temperature (22 to 38°C) on myofilament contractile response. The critical role of myofilament Ca2+ sensitivity in modulating developed force is likewise studied, as is the indirect coupling of intracellular contractile mechanism with the plasma membrane via the Na+/Ca2+ exchanger (NCX). Finally, we demonstrate a key linear relationship between the rate of contraction and relaxation, which is shown here to be intrinsically coupled over the full range of physiological perturbations. Conclusions: Extensive testing of the composite model elucidates the importance of various direct and indirect modulatory influences on cellular twitch response with wide agreement with measured data on all accounts. Thus, the model provides mechanistic insights into whole-cell responses to a wide variety of testing approaches used in studies of cardiac myofilament contractility that have appeared in the literature over the past several decades.Methodist Hospital Research Institut

Use of ultrasounds in blanca celtiberica live kids as predictors of carcasses composition

Sobre diez cabritos machos de raza Blanca Celtibérica, se compararon seis medidas de espesor de grasa lumbar, 6 de profundidad del M. Longissimus dorsi (PMLD) y 3 del espesor de grasa esternal obtenidas con ultrasonidos en el animal vivo y sobre la canal. La mejor correspondencia se consiguió para las medidas entre la 3ª y 4ª vértebra lumbar, a 4 cm de la columna vertebral en su punto medio y a 1/3 de la longitud total de la apófisis transversa. Para PMLD, el lugar óptimo fue entre la 1ª-2ª vértebra lumbar, a 2 cm de la columna vertebral en su punto medio. La mejor correlación para espesor de grasa se obtuvo en la región esternal. La medida B, evaluada entre la 3ª-4ª vértebra lumbar, fue la mejor predictora de los principales depósitos adiposos, explicando el 70 p.100 de la variación en el peso de la grasa renal, el 71 p.100 de la variación en el peso de la grasa subcutánea, omental y total del cuerpo, y el 80 p.100 de la variación en el peso de la grasa intermuscular y total de la canal.On 10 Blanca Celtiberica kids, 6 measurements of lumbar fat thickness, six of M. Longissimus dorsi depth (PMLD) and three of the breastbone fat thickness taken by ultrasounds in live animals or by carcass measurement, were compared. The best correspondence was obtained in the measurements on the 3rd-4th lumbar vertebra at 4 cm from the middle of the spinal column. The best measurement of PMLD was taken between the 1st and the 2nd lumbar vertebrae and at 2 cm distance from the middle of the spinal column. The highest correlation coefficients with respect to fat thickness were registered at the breastbone region. The B measurement, evaluated between the 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebrae, was the best predictor of the main fat depots, explaining 70 percent of the variation of the kidney fat weight, 71 percent of the variation of the subcutaneous, omental and total body fat weight, as well as 80 percent of the variation of the weight of the intermuscular and total carcass fat

El presente documento recoge el estudio acerca de los motores de búsqueda, introduciendo conceptos básicos acerca de los mismos como: concepto de posicionamiento, definición de posicionamiento SEO, definición de posicionamiento SEM, definición de un motor de búsqueda, etc. Se centra en el motor de búsqueda más utilizado en España, Google. Al centrarse en el citado motor de búsqueda se realiza una explicación de la complejidad de su algoritmo y una muestra de la evolución del mismo a lo largo del tiempo. Se muestra un caso real de asesoramiento para un cliente, donde se muestran los problemas identificados en el cliente y una solución para los mismos. It focuses on the largest search engine used in Spain, Google. Focusing on the above search engine, it is made an explanation of the complexity of their algorithm and a sample of its evolution over time. Moreover, a real case of advising for a client is presented, which shows the problems identified in the client Webpage and a solution for them.
