A Comparative Study on Student Achievement in Science Through Cooperative Learning and Individual Learning at Nantawan International School
This study compared the differences in student achievement in science between cooperative learning and individualistic learning. The study had four objectives which were to determine 1) if there is an improvement in student achievement in science through cooperative learning, 2) if there is an improvement in student achievement in science through individualistic learning, 3) if there is a significant difference in student achievement in science between cooperative learning and individualistic learning activities, 4) if there is a significant difference in student achievement in science through cooperative learning and individualistic learning activities by year of study in Nantawan International School. The sample of 64 multinational students from the varying levels of primary Year 3 to 6 were given pretests and posttests through both cooperative and individualistic learning style in order to compare student achievement in science in the second semester of the academic year 2011-2012 at Nantawan International School. A major finding of the study was that there was a significant difference in student achievement in science between cooperative learning and individualistic learning activities in all four year levels from Year 3 to 6 in the direction that cooperative learning activities were more effective than individualistic learning activities for achievement in science. There was no significant difference in student achievement in science through both cooperative learning and individualistic learning activities by year of study in Nantawan International School. As a result of findings of this research, cooperative learning is recommended in the teaching/learning process to improve student achievement in science

Developable surfaces are used widely in CAGD. In this paper, the spherical image of developable surfaces via SLERP is formed. Also, the advantage of working on the spherical curves instead of developable surfaces is expressed. In addition to them, required reminders about properties of developable surfaces and SLERP are given. Key words- Developable surfaces, Gauss map, quaternion, SLERP
Big Data and Knowledge-based Urban System in Tehran
Data, information and knowledge are essential sources of decision- making and policy- making processes in urban and regional planning and are considered to be an essential source to achieve urban planning goals. Big data is defined generally with respect to its size but this paper is focused mainly on urban and regional data, that is, data streamed from cities and regions which are regularly related to space and time. Big data has benefits of providing a detailed view of the activity patterns for multiplicity of urban populations, how cities function and can be managed, rather than a general feature by traditional statistics. In this context, application of big data has been rapid expansion in urban and regional studies and planning to cope with uncertainty and provide information requirement of decision- making processes. Appling big data in urban studies and planning processes and the practice of urban planning has been introduced as potential to more effective urban planning a more conscious decision- making.
Metropolitan planning of Tehran faces known and unknown contingencies which could affect the anticipated outcome of the planning system. This shows the necessity of availability to new sources of data in order to cope with inherent uncertainties and constrains posed upon this city’s planning practice. The main questions presented by this paper are first, to explore the resources and potential of creating and appling big data –- as a knowledge resource -- in the planning and management system of Tehran, and second, how the applyication of big data affect and facilitate the function of urban planning and management in Tehran? A descriptive-analytic process has been adopted to answer this twofold question: first) tracing the creation and application of big data in urban planning around the world through systematic literature review, and second) analysis the creation and applicability of big data in Tehran planning and management system. This paper is to discuss potentials and challenges of creation, development and application of big data in the planning and management processes with a positive impact to improve urban policy- making in coping with known and unknown contingencies and uncertaitities throuh networking this type of date to other type of information and knowledge to establish a knowledge-based urban system as part of a knowledge management framework
Vat Reduction in 8% and Impact on Household Budget
Increased care, implementation, and greater importance in creating fiscal policies that impact in the economy and family consumption began after the declaration of Independence in 2008, when the first tax reforms were made. But the fiscal reforms called the Fiscal Package 1 which started its enforcement by the end of 2015, especially the VAT reduced rate for household consumption from 16% to 8% had the main effect on the consumer basket and the family budget, which is also the main approach of this paper. Based on the analysis of many indicators, statistical data and questionnaire we have verified how much was impact in the household budget by the decrease of VAT rate. We will give an overview on the influence of this reform on the household consumption basket by focusing mainly on essential products for living. By comparing the experiences of the countries in the region and the survey with the respondents we will be able to see how these changes were expected by the citizens, how do they evaluate the impact on their family budget, as well as possible suggestions for other positive ways that can contribute in saving the family budget. Hypothesis from the comparison of the results of the findings and the answers from the survey was verified that family consumption basket with VAT reduction has lower cost especially for public services and saving the family budget. While the implication on the general budget of the state from reduced VAT rate is very small, compared to the benefits of low-income households
THE SPIRALS ON THE OBLATE AND PROLATE SPHEROIDS OF LORENTZ-MINKOWSKI 3− SPACE R13
Spirials are differentiable curves that meet all meridians of a rotational surface at a constant angle. In this study, we obtain differential equations of all spirals on hyperbolic oblate and Lorentzian prolate spheroids. Then we define the general parametrizations of spirals which are solutions of differential equations
The Relationship between the Development and Application Skills of Multiple-Choice Test of Teachers and Demonstrated Achievement in this Regard
This study sought to develop a Likert type scale which is valid and reliable in order to investigate the development and application skills of multiple-choice tests of teachers. The research was carried out with 386 teachers, selected randomly from primary schools and high schools in Eskisehir, Turkey in the 2010-2011 academic year. The data were collected by using a questionnaire consisting of two sections, developed by the researchers to determine the development and application skills of multiple-choice tests of teachers. The first part is related to demographic and personal information. The second part includes 72 expressions related to development and application skills of multiple-choice tests on a 5-point Likert-type scale. Data were analyzed with exploratory factor analysis and multi-factor confirmatory factor analysis by using the statistical package SPSS and LISREL. The findings of the study revealed that the scale was valid and reliable
Exploring Strategies Adopted by Adolescent Girls for Continuing Sports Activities
Background: Physical activity maintenance is an active process that requires active use of strategies and techniques for its maintenance. The present study was designed to understand these strategies from the viewpoints of adolescent girls, who are often significantly less physically active than their male counterparts.
Methods: This study was a qualitative content analysis conducted through semi-structured interviews with 25 participants (16 adolescent girls, 7 mothers and two fathers). Data gathering was continued until data saturation. All the interviews were recorded, transcribed, and finally were analyzed by conventional content analysis using OneNote.
Results: The Strategy of "strive for perfection", with categories of reviewing experiences and thoughtful decision making and activity, was the dominant strategy used by adolescent girls to continue their sport activities.
Conclusion: Adolescent girls in the recent study facilitated the continuation of their sports activities through using cognitive and behavioral strategies appropriate to their conditions. Therefore, it seems that paying attention to creating conditions for adolescents to have their own choices, decisions and strategies is useful in the continuation of sports activities
