Libri come opere d’arte. Dal Brasile all’Agro romano
The essay deals with the exhibition “Schools as huts and books as works of art. From Brazil to the Agro Romano” (Scuole come capanne e libri come opere d’arte. Dal Brasile all’Agro Romano), which collected educational materials and objects of daily life made for the schools of the Brazilian Indians, as well as those of the farmers of the Agro Romano of the early 20th Century. The dialogue between these materials underlines the centrality of beauty in education and in creating a better world
Public History, memorie scolastiche e formazione. Esperienze in Toscana
The contribution includes the interventions at the round table of the schools which welcomed the educational initiatives linked to the "School Memoirs" (Memorie di Scuola) project - the first specific Italian experience of Public History in the educational field - and which intertwined their itineraries for the formation of historical thought with that perspective
Women, land, labour and survival: getting some basic facts straight
SUMMARY In the context of the current food crisis confronting most sub?Saharan African economies the need to unmask the identities of rural producers from a gender perspective is reinforced. This article focuses on three major issues which have tended towards ambiguity in analyses of rural political economy. First, the question of women's differential land use rights is analysed in terms of the impact agricultural modernisation has had on traditional status. Second, the complexity in household form and composition is drawn out. Finally, the support systems women rely on in times of impending disaster to ward off economic crises are examined.

Influence of precursor morphology and cathode processing on performance and cycle life of sodium-zinc chloride (Na-ZnCl2) battery cells
Replacing nickel by cheap and abundant zinc may enable high-temperature sodium-nickel chloride (Na-NiCl2) batteries to become an economically viable and environmentally sustainable option for large-scale energy storage for stationary applications. However, changing the active cathode metal significantly affects the cathode microstructure, the electrochemical reaction mechanisms, the stability of cell components, and the specific cell energy. In this study, we investigate the influence of cathode microstructure on energy efficiency and cycle life of sodium-zinc chloride (Na-ZnCl2) cells operated at 300 â—¦C. We correlate the dis-/charge cycling performance of Na-ZnCl2 cells with the ternary ZnCl2-NaCl-AlCl3 phase diagram, and identify mass transport through the secondary NaAlCl4 electrolyte as an important contribution to the cell resistance. These insights enable the design of tailored cathode microstructures, which we apply to cells with cathode granules and cathode pellets at an areal
capacity of 50 mAh/cm2. With cathode pellets, we demonstrate >200 cycles at C/5 (10 mA/cm2), transferring a total capacity of 9 Ah/cm2 at >83% energy efficiency. We identify coarsening of zinc particles in the cathode microstructure as a major cause of performance degradation in terms of a reduction in energy efficiency. Our
results set a basis to further enhance Na-ZnCl2 cells, e.g., by the use of suitable additives or structural elements to stabilize the cathode microstructure

On
-- ABSTRACT: The following work presents in a general way a comparison between AnemoScope
commercial code simulations results and meteorological data available from Environment
Canada. In a first part, a complete study of the MC2 model, on which AnemoScope
software is based, is presented by detailing the methods to build a semi-Iagrangian semiimplicit
scheme with stereographic and Gal-Chen coordinates. It highlights the hypothesis
and the approximations which have been done: the atmosphere is considered as dry, the
daily cycles are disregarded, as the sea breezes and the local heat sources. Finally, we
clearly identify the limits of the model like the CFL number or the inaccuracy due to the
graduai topography integration. In a second part, we compare the measured wind data
provided by Environment Canada and the simulations run with AnémoScope. We explain
first the way to use this real wind data and the RIX calculation made from topographic data.
We detail then the simulation parameters and the computation of the mean wind speed and
direction results from the simulations. Finally, we show that the comparisons are quite
inconclusive and we explain that the observed spreads can be due to an overestimation of
the wind potential by AnemoScope software as well as a pOOl' accuracy of the wind data
used as reference
