From Coulomb excitation cross sections to non-resonant astrophysical rates in three-body systems: 17^{17}Ne case

    Get PDF
Coulomb and nuclear dissociation of 17^{17}Ne on light and heavy targets are studied theoretically. The dipole E1 strength function is determined in a broad energy range including energies of astrophysical interest. Dependence of the strength function on different parameters of the 17^{17}Ne ground state structure and continuum dynamics is analyzed in a three-body model. The discovered dependence plays an important role for studies of the strength functions for the three-body E1 dissociation and radiative capture. The constraints on the [s2]/[d2][s^2]/[d^2] configuration mixing in 17^{17}Ne and on pp-wave interaction in the 15^{15}O+pp channel are imposed based on experimental data for 17^{17}Ne Coulomb dissociation on heavy target.Comment: 12 pages, 13 figure

We provide a rigorous treatment of the inverse scattering transform for the entire Toda hierarchy for solutions which are asymptotically close to (in general) different finite-gap solutions as n±n\to\pm\infty.Comment: 10 page

The first Russian female soil scientist

The year 2021 is marked by the 175-th anniversary of the birth of Anna Egorovna and Vasiliy Vasilievich Dokuchaevs. This is a wonderful occasion to recall an amazing and remarkably modest woman who played an important role in the life and work of the great Russian natural scientist, the founder of genetic soil science. If many works were written about her outstanding world-wide known husband, films were made, pictures were created, his photos are preserved, then the life of his wife is undeservingly poorly described, and the appearance of this very beautiful woman is depicted in the only one famous portrait. This article, dedicated to the memory of Anna Egorovna Dokuchaeva, is based on both the quotations from the already published memoirs of the follower and the friend of V.V. Dokuchaev – Franz Yulievich Levinson-Lessing, and the excerpts from Anna Egorovna’s letters to Varvara Ippolitovna – the wife of F.Yu. Levinson-Lessing. These letters were collected from the archives of the Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg and copied by the employee of the V.V. Dokuchaev Soil Science Institute – Sergey Petrovich Lyalin – in the 1980s, and they are now kindly provided by the Central Soil Museum by V.V. Dokuchaev (the Branch of the Federal Research Centre “V.V. Dokuchaev Soil Science Institute” in St. Petersburg)

Competency-based approach and competencies in higher education: a theoretical review

    Get PDF
Economic changes not only in the country, but also on the world labor market explain the growing demands on young professionals. New requirements for the model and quality of the graduate appear, and new approaches to their competitiveness and effectiveness appear. The authors analyzed the concepts of a competency-based approach, competence, developed characteristic features and the field of implementation of these definitions in higher education. It has been established that a qualitatively new mission, tasks and content of modern education in the new conditions should be focused not only on fundamental knowledge, but also on the formation of practically oriented skills and competencies

Calorimetry of the Inverse Ω→Α Phase Transformation in Zircony and Titanium

In this work, using the method of differential scanning calorimetry, it was found that the reverse phase transformation ω → α in titanium occurs at lower temperatures and in a narrower temperature range than in zirconium, regardless of the amount of preliminary deformation. It was found that the transformation temperature ω → α and the value of the released thermal energy in both metals stabilize with an increase in the degree of deformationРабота выполнена в рамках государственного задания по теме «Структура» (№ АААА-А18-118020190116-6).The work was carried out within the framework of the state task on the topic “Structure” (no. INVESTIGATION OF STABILITY OF METASTABLE ω-PHASE IN PSEUDO-SINGLE CRYSTAL ZIRCONIUM FORMED DURING WARM DEFORMATION

The use of alloys of zirconium and titanium in nuclear energy and the space industry places high demands on the properties of these materials. It is known that the metastable baric ω-phase, which is formed in these materials under intense exposure, has increased hardness and brittleness. In this regard, there is a need for a detailed study of the stability of the metastable ω-phase.

Long-Time Asymptotics of Perturbed Finite-Gap Korteweg-de Vries Solutions

We apply the method of nonlinear steepest descent to compute the long-time asymptotics of solutions of the Korteweg--de Vries equation which are decaying perturbations of a quasi-periodic finite-gap background solution. We compute a nonlinear dispersion relation and show that the x/tx/t plane splits into g+1g+1 soliton regions which are interlaced by g+1g+1 oscillatory regions, where g+1g+1 is the number of spectral gaps. In the soliton regions the solution is asymptotically given by a number of solitons travelling on top of finite-gap solutions which are in the same isospectral class as the background solution. In the oscillatory region the solution can be described by a modulated finite-gap solution plus a decaying dispersive tail. The modulation is given by phase transition on the isospectral torus and is, together with the dispersive tail, explicitly characterized in terms of Abelian integrals on the underlying hyperelliptic curve.Comment: 45 pages. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:0705.034

Three-body correlations in direct reactions: Example of 6^{6}Be populated in (p,n)(p,n) reaction

    Get PDF
The 6^{6}Be continuum states were populated in the charge-exchange reaction 1^1H(6^{6}Li,6^{6}Be)nn collecting very high statistics data (5×106\sim 5 \times 10^6 events) on the three-body α\alpha+pp+pp correlations. The 6^{6}Be excitation energy region below 3\sim 3 MeV is considered, where the data are dominated by contributions from the 0+0^+ and 2+2^+ states. It is demonstrated how the high-statistics few-body correlation data can be used to extract detailed information on the reaction mechanism. Such a derivation is based on the fact that highly spin-aligned states are typically populated in the direct reactions.Comment: submitted to Physical Review
