    Formación universitaria de agroecólogos mayas. Un enfoque intercultural

    El programa de ingeniería en agroecología en la Universidad Intercultural Maya de Quintana Roo, asumió que “el modelo educativo intercultural y su adecuada articulación con la pedagogía y arreglo institucional, son factores determinantes de éxito”. En el periodo examinado, de 2007 a 2015, cerca del 100% de los estudiantes fueron de origen Maya; entre 2007 a 2010 alrededor del 85% de ellos fueron los primeros en sus familias o comunidades en buscar un título universitario. Otros indicadores son: retención mayor al 80%, titulación del 100% y más del 90% de egresados obtuvieron un empleo en alrededor de seis meses después de su graduación. El programa alcan- zó el nivel más alto de calidad, a nivel nacional, en 2013 mediante la evaluación de los Comités Interinstitucionales de Evaluación de la Educación Superior en México. Estos datos adquieren mayor relevancia debido a que la evaluación de nuestros estudiantes, al ingresar a la UIMQRoo, estuvo por debajo de la media nacional. Entre los elementos del modelo están: la figura de abue- lo tutor para cada estudiante y sabios locales formalmente incorporados como profesores; un taller de desarrollo humano como parte de la formación básica, integración del nivel profesional asociado con licenciatura y el trabajo continuo con la comunidad; todos ellos articulados con una pedagogía que descansó en investigación acción participativa enfatizando la inducción sobre la deducción

    Elastic scattering with weakly bound projectiles

    Possible effects of the break-up channel on the elastic scattering threshold anomaly has been investigated. We used the weakly bound 6,7Li nuclei, which is known to undergo break-up, as projectiles in order to study the elastic scattering on a 27Al target. In this contribution we present preliminary results of these experiments, which were analyzed in terms of the Optical Model and compared with other elastic scattering data using weakly bound nuclei as projectile. © 2007 American Institute of Physics.Fil:Figueira, J.M.     Eating competence of elderly Spanish adults is associated with a healthy diet and a favorable cardiovascular disease risk profile

    Eating competence (EC), a bio-psychosocial model for intrapersonal approaches to eating and food-related behaviors, is associated with less weight dissatisfaction, lower BMI, and increased HDL-cholesterol in small U.S. studies, but its relationship to nutrient quality and overall cardiovascular risk have not been examined. Prevención con Dieta Mediterránea (PREDIMED) is a 5-y controlled clinical trial evaluating Mediterranean diet efficacy on the primary prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in Spain. In a cross-sectional study, 638 PREDIMED participants (62% women, mean age 67 y) well phenotyped for cardiovascular risk factors were assessed for food intake and EC using validated questionnaires. Overall, 45.6% were eating-competent. EC was associated with being male and energy intake (P 5.6 mmol/L (0.71; 95% CI 0.51-0.98) and HDL-cholesterol or =3.4 mmol/L were 0.1). Our findings support further examination of EC as a strategy for enhancing diet quality and CVD prevention

    A collection and analysis of amphibians and reptiles from Nicaragua with new country and departmental records

    Nicaragua is a biodiverse country, but documented herpetological specimens are underrepresented compared to neighboring countries. In 2018 we conducted a collaborative expedition between the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology and Nicaraguan biologists. We visited sites in the Pacific Low‑ lands, Caribbean Lowlands, and the Central Highlands, representing the three major biogeographic regions of Nicaragua. We collected specimens of 100 species from a total of 106 encountered. We provide acces‑ sion numbers and morphological, genetic, and ecological information for these specimens. We recorded 23 new departmental records and the first country record of Metlapilcoatlus indomitus (Smith & Ferrari‑Castro, 2008), filling gaps in the known distribution of the species within Nicaragua and across Central America. When available for each species, we provide range maps and comparative genetic trees including conspecific reference sequences from the region, making this work a significant addition to existing checklists of the herpetofauna in Nicaragua

    Performance and first measurements of the MAGIC stellar intensity interferometer

    In recent years, a new generation of optical intensity interferometers has emerged, leveraging the existing infrastructure of Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs). The MAGIC telescopes host the MAGIC-SII system (Stellar Intensity Interferometer), implemented to investigate the feasibility and potential of this technique on IACTs. After the first successful measurements in 2019, the system was upgraded and now features a real-time, dead-time-free, 4-channel, GPU-based correlator. These hardware modifications allow seamless transitions between MAGIC’s standard very-high-energy gamma-ray observations and optical interferometry measurements within seconds. We establish the feasibility and potential of employing IACTs as competitive optical Intensity Interferometers with minimal hardware adjustments. The measurement of a total of 22 stellar diameters are reported, 9 corresponding to reference stars with previous comparable measurements, and 13 with no prior measurements. A prospective implementation involving telescopes from the forthcoming Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory’s Northern hemisphere array, such as the first prototype of its Large-Sized Telescopes, LST-1, is technically viable. This integration would significantly enhance the sensitivity of the current system and broaden the UV-plane coverage. This advancement would enable the system to achieve competitive sensitivity with the current generation of long-baseline optical interferometers over blue wavelengths

    A detailed study of the very-high-energy Crab pulsar emission with the LST-1

    Context: There are currently three pulsars firmly detected by imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs), two of them reaching TeV energies, challenging models of very-high-energy (VHE) emission in pulsars. More precise observations are needed to better characterize pulsar emission at these energies. The LST-1 is the prototype of the Large-Sized Telescope, that will be part of the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO). Its improved performance over previous IACTs makes it well suited for studying pulsars. Aims: To study the Crab pulsar emission with the LST-1, improving and complementing the results from other telescopes. These observations can also be used to characterize the potential of the LST-1 to study other pulsars and detect new ones. Methods: We analyzed a total of \sim103 hours of gamma-ray observations of the Crab pulsar conducted with the LST-1 in the period from September 2020 to January 2023. The observations were carried out at zenith angles less than 50 degrees. A new analysis of the Fermi-LAT data was also performed, including \sim14 years of observations. Results: The Crab pulsar phaseogram, long-term light-curve, and phase-resolved spectra are reconstructed with the LST-1 from 20 GeV to 450 GeV for P1 and up to 700 GeV for P2. The pulsed emission is detected with a significance of 15.2σσ. The two characteristic emission peaks of the Crab pulsar are clearly detected (>10σσ), as well as the so-called bridge emission (5.7σσ). We find that both peaks are well described by power laws, with spectral indices of \sim3.44 and \sim3.03 respectively. The joint analysis of Fermi-LAT and LST-1 data shows a good agreement between both instruments in the overlapping energy range. The detailed results obtained in the first observations of the Crab pulsar with LST-1 show the potential that CTAO will have to study this type of sources
