    Get PDF
This research report provides primary research data and analysis on heavy truck trip generation and characteristics from regional distribution centers (RDC) and similar facilities in an effort to facilitate future public policy making regarding roadway transportation needs as well as land-use and economic development decisions. The report also provides secondary data and information on intermodal freight transportation - its growth and its economic impacts ??? to provide a regional, national, and international context for the research. The primary data was obtained from a field survey of 12 distribution centers of various scales (7 of them regional) in Northeast Illinois. The 12 facilities and their supervisory personnel were visited by the research team and analyzed in depth for their general business characteristics (e.g. type of goods, number of employees, hours of operation etc.), property characteristics (e.g. location, facility size, ceiling height) and their truck trip productions (e.g. number of arrivals-departures, geographic distribution of inbound-outbound movement, volume per quarter etc.). The findings of this research project in reference to the 12 facilities indicate the uniqueness and significant complexity of the distribution centers. There is clear evidence of an increase in size (sq. ft & ceiling) and automation (racking systems) of the newer facilities as well as 24-hour operations. The comparison of daily heavy truck movement shows significant arrival concentration between 8am-10am and 8pm- 6am. In contrast the heaviest departure activity is between 4-6pm. The majority of originating freight is from the Midwest with the outbound distributions also being allocated regionally then nationally and internationally (minimal allocation). Another result was the increased volume concentration in the third quarter of each year between July and September. The above results along with the significant expansions of RDC facilities in the last few years indicate the additional need for studying the locations of the various facilities and the heavy truck traffic volume they generate. The results should also be useful in determining the economics benefits/costs and impacts of these facilities for purposes of making infrastructure investment, economic incentive, and land use decisions.Illinois Center for Transportation R27-15published or submitted for publicationis peer reviewe

Heavy Quark Dynamics in the QGP

We assess transport properties of heavy quarks in the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) that show a strong non-perturbative behavior. A T-matrix approach based on a potential taken from lattice QCD hints at the presence of heavy-quark (HQ) resonant scattering with an increasing strength as the temperature, TT, reaches the critical temperature, T_c \simeq 170 \; \MeV for deconfinement from above. The implementation of HQ resonance scattering along with a hadronization via quark coalescence under the conditions of the plasma created in heavy-ion collisions has been shown to correctly describe both the nuclear modification factor, RAAR_{AA}, and the elliptic flow, v2v_2, of single electrons at RHIC and have correctly predicted the RAAR_{AA} of D mesons at LHC energy.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, Proceedings of EPIC@LHC Workshop, 6-8 July, Bar

Загадка "простого объекта" в Логико-философском трактате Л. Витгенштейна

The concept of the object in the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus is still a mystery to scholars. It is yet unclear whether the object is a physical quality, a universal, a Platonic form, an abstract metaphysical construct, etc. There is still no consensus either on how the object relates to the name in the proposition and how the object, while remaining “simple”, determines all logically possible events. This is only a small part of the questions that researchers have in connection with this concept. The article proposes a detailed reconstruction of the “logical structure” presented in the Tractatus and puts forward a version of the answer to the question: What is a simple object

Wrongfulness of a court’s decisions, acts and/or omissions as a condition of tortious obligations in Ukraine

    Get PDF
An attempt to analyze one of the necessary conditions determining the obligations to compensate for damage caused by the judiciary is made in the article. The author focuses on the wrongfulness of a court’s decisions, acts and/or omissions as a condition of such obligations. It is emphasized that the category “miscarriage of justice” is used as a generic term for the aforementioned forms of wrongful behavior under the provisions of some international instruments and the legislation of some foreign countries. Meanwhile, the author shows that the incorporation of such an approach into national legislation is inappropriate. It is concluded that the problem of extending the list of wrongful actions of judicial bodies and their officials is particularly relevant for Ukraine, considering the practice of the ECHR. Special attention is given to the case of compensation for damage caused to an individual or legal entity as a result of a court rendering an illegal decision in a civil case

Bruchidius marginalis (Fabricius, 1776) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Bruchinae) – a species new to the Republic of Khakassia (Russia)

Bruchidius marginalis, a seed beetle, is found in various countries, the including the Baltic countries, Balkan peninsula, central, northern, and the western Europe, and Transcaucasian countries. In Russia, the species was previously noted in the south of its European part, Saratov and Kaliningrad regions. Oxytropis pilosa, a South Palearctic species, grows in central Europe, the European part of Russia, the Caucasus, Siberia, Mongolia, and Asia Minor. It is distributed in the steppe zone, insular steppes, forb and forb-grass steppes, and steppe meadows. A count of damaged O. pilosa seedlings was made and the percentage of fruit infection by seed-eating insects was calculated. The level of infestation in the O. pilosa fruits was 23%, and mass emergence of adults was observed in September. When examining leguminous plants for infection with seed-eating insects, a species of carpophage Bruchidius marginalis was identified, which is the first for the territory of the Republic of Khakassia

The article deals with the problem of the environmental protection in the novel of the German writer E.Strittmatter "The Miracle-Worker", represented in the lexical-syntactic structures that are the linguistic correlates of the frames "Man" and "Nature". The analysis of the peculiarities of verbal filling of the frame structures by the terminal elements, that represent this problem, is performed

On the activity and specificity of cardosin B, a plant proteinase, on ovine caseins

    Get PDF
The proteolytic activity of cardosin B, an aspartic proteinase from the thistle, Cynara cardunculus, on ovine αs-caseins and β-caseins (independently or present together in sodium caseinate) was followed by urea polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography. This enzyme degraded both types of caseins, but not to the same degree. In sodium-caseinate, by 10 h at 30°C, αs-caseins were more susceptible to proteolysis by cardosin B than β-casein whereas, in isolated form, the reverse was observed. Sequencing of the peptides produced by hydrolysis of Na-caseinate showed that the major cleavage sites in αs1-casein were Leu156-Asp157 and Trp164-Tyr165 whereas, in β-casein, they were Leu127-Thr128, Leu165-Ser166 and Leu90-Tyr191. The bonds Trpl64-Tyr165 and Leu165-Ser166 were the most susceptible to cardosin B when this enzyme acted upon isolated αs1- and β-casein, respectively
